  1. Too many Concervative New Yorkers don't vote as they feel it is a lost cause . Get out there and vote !
  2. Was in the double stand by 6:15 . Sat back and relaxed as legal time was &:10 am . I had aa heck of a time cocking the crossbow before getting into the stand . A tad after 8 , 3 doe came up through the woods about 80 yards away . Lost sight of them in the thickets . About the same time a doe on the other side of the ditch and blew . She was up wind of me but might have scented me . That was it . My son didn't see any deer . The corn was down and the field was cleared . I might try Mendon Tuesday afternoon . In the meantime I am considering buying a rope crank for my crossbow . I had no trouble cocking the Xbow when I was checking it out in the back yard but had a heck of a time in the woods .
  3. Going to head to Geneseo this morning for a sit in the woods . I hope I can find the stand in the dark . It's going to be cold so I hope these old bones can stand it . I just hope I get a shot . I will be in a double tree stand with a rail but I still plan to wear my safety harness . Happy Hunting to everyone !
  4. My wife called me out to the TV a couple nights ago . They were talking about CWD and how terrible it is to the deer . This was on CBS , Channel 8 in Rochester . I told my wife that it was nothing new , just a scare . They had a couple of weird looking deer on the video to probably scare the public .As long as some groups will call for the tests , they will continue to get research grants from the government . It's a Scam !
  5. We can start this again so be sure to be civil ! No name calling , bashing etc . https://www.wwnytv.com/2024/10/27/state-chronic-wasting-disease-case-confirmed/?outputType=amp
  6. If you can’t find any deer, look in the barrels
  7. Stop the attacks or the thread gets locked !
  8. I hadn't shot my Center Point 370 since last year . I took it out back this afternoon and shot it at 20 , 25 and 30 yards . No adjustment needed . I still have the original scope that came with the crossbow . No need to spend big bucks that will do the same .
  9. I have one of these in my garage somewhere . I forgot all about them . I haven't had to butcher a deer in a few years as I have left that up to my oldest son . Thanks for the reminder .
  10. Hunted at Geneseo in the afternoon with a son and grandson . Saw 3 doe and 2 different fox while I was sitting in my stand . It was very windy and cold . My son called me at 5:30 and said he had hit a doe using his recurve bow and single bevel arrow but hit it back a ways and needed help tracking . It went quite a distance on the neighbor's property but finally found it .

  12. THe video is probably too long for most people but it is quite informative . My oldest son has been shooting a recurve for several years and has shoulder pain . He said the video explains why !
  13. A lengthy video by Tom Clum sr . Explains mechanics of properly shooting a bow and avoiding shoulder pain by doing it wrong . https://youtu.be/nr3F96kqv9k?si=zD_0YRfu7bquRwoV
  14. Sat in my blind at my son's property from 3 - 6:30 . Didn't see a thing . On my way home on route 64 , I almost hit a doe that ran across the road in front of me . I never want to get a deer that wat .
  15. My son is sick and can't go hunting . Covid test came up negative . I will hunt his property in Mendon / HF . Here is a picture of his back yard . I won't be hunting from that blind .
  16. Hunting on Public Land -- after the sun comes up
  17. I plan to do an afternoon hunt Saturday in Geneseo . I don't do an all day hunt as I don't feature getting up at 3am to do an all day . Buck or doe - no preference .
  18. My 1st deer ever with a bow was a 6 point buck . I got him with a neck hit . I was in a permanent tree stand about 16 feet high , 3 bucks were together and I aimed at the last one . They were on a trail about 8 feet from the stand I was in . I aimed for the vitals but stupid me still had my quiver on . There was a 2X4 rail on the stand . When I released , the arrows in the quiver ticked the 2X4 and I hit the buck in the neck and he dropped on the spot . I took the quiver off and put a 2nd arrow in his vitals . I would never have the confidence to actually take a neck shot .
  19. They say most accidents happen within 25 miles of home . That's why I drive 50 miles away to hunt .
  20. No . I don't use a treestand unless I have my safety harness on but I don't use a lifeline .
