  1. My father in law bought a 20 gauge smoothbore Mossberg 500 in 1965 and had a Weaver Qwik-Point sight mounted on it . He shot several deer with it over the years . My SIL has it now and she had killed several deer with the Mossberg . She shot a 5 pt buck at 169 paces ( 130 + yards ) using a Federal foster slug . Never had any mal-function issue . My son has his brother's Mossberg 835 ultra and it is an awesome shotgun . I don't own a Mossberg but if I was going to buy a shotgun , I would buy a Mossberg before any Remington .
  2. Doc --- put away the BB gun so you won't shoot their eyes out !
  3. I just might try bow hunting this season wearing a Blaze Orange Loin Cloth !
  4. The Hunter's Specialties stuff is supposed to be good . I believe it is all synthetic stuff so it shouldn't spoil once opened . At least I don't think so .
  5. Oh , that one really hurt Doewhacker ! ......
  6. CPS --- That's a good idea but ..... it shouldn't have to be done . It's a good fix that I havn't tried yet . I have a Bohning Lynx 6 arrow quiver that holds the arrow in 2 places . I have rarely had the blades come loose in the quiver but I check them before putting one on the string . Rage has an excellent Customer Service . I had some of the older model blades that had a set screw . I tried to remove the screw on a broadhead that I shot a deer with .Got the screw 1/2 way out and stripped the slot . Contacted Rage , sent the blade to them and they sent me a new pack ( 3 broadheads + practice head ) .
  7. I think the sights I have on 2 bows are Tru-Glo Range Rover Bright sights . They are single pin sights that can be easily set up or down . I leave it set at 20 yards and if I need to change , it just takes a push with the thumb to adjust . It has a locking screw that I have tightened until I get in the stand . Multi pin sights are fine . I , personally never cared for them .
  8. Gander Mt has higher prices than DICKs . The only upside to GM is ........ they will honor the DICKs Entertainment Book coupons ( but check first ) . I have used them at the Henrietta store . Grow ----- How many bottles of scent blocker did you buy to cover up the goat smell ?
  9. When I was taking College Courses , I took my text book , etc with me . I would read a page , scan and go to the next page while sitting at the base of a tree . This was gun season as I hadn't started bow hunting at the time .
  10. WnyBuckHunter --- That pic made my butt muscles tighten up ! Ouch !
  11. I was expecting that !
  12. I think I would pass on the shot . An arrow or bullet up the length of a deer makes for a mess and what a stink !
  13. When I hunt my SIL's property , I step in fresh horse manure before walking to a stand . Note : Climb up and down the Ladder Stand using the sides of the ladder instead of the rungs !
  14. Has anyone ever taken one of these ? I recall Chuck Adams was chastised for doing it and his take was " If you have confidence in yourself making the shot , then take it" . I took a young friend hunting once and he shot a deer just as it turned . We were trying to figure out where he hit it until he started to Field Dress it . Right in the Bung ! It hadn't traveled more than 5 feet after the shot . Hiw wasn't intentional but nevertheless it was a Texas Heart Shot !
  15. Welcome to Hunting NY . Where exactly is East Otto ?
  16. I try to set a camera on a trail that the deer travel . One of my friends kids put some apples out one time thinking he was helping me . I explained to him that he could have gotten me into some big trouble .
  17. If I had 4 bears walk within 10 yards of me , I think I would be spraying Scent Killer on my shorts !

    Fufu Arrows

    Sometimes I confuse myself !
  19. I hunt 50 - 60 miles from home so I keep a backup in my backpack just for insurance . I usually keep the bow , quiver with arrows , release and arm guard in my bowcase so I should have everything with me . My release fell out of my pocket on the way to the stand one morning . Rather than look around in the dark I pulled the backup out and hunted . Found my main release on the way back to my vehicle .
  20. Read some of the dumb comments at the bottom of the article ..........
  21. I wasn't assuming everyone had a backup release . I was asking about those that did have one . The same would go for those that have a backup bow . Not everone has one but ......for those that do should practice with the backup bow . The bows would ( no doubt ) shoot differently .

    Fufu Arrows

Elmo ----- The Whisker Biscuit would definately tear up the fletching on a Flu Flu arrow . They will also tear up the Qwik-Spin vanes that have the little tab on them . I would not shoot Flu Flus through the Biscuit ! I have never heard of anyone shooting the FF's with a compound either .

    Fufu Arrows

Elmo ---- I think that sniffing that doe pee has messed up your thinking !
  24. I agree Doc . A deer could be completely out of the sight picture by the time the deer arrow travels 60 yards .
