Yes there are expenses for hosting and maintaining, this board has pop up advertising for some income, the number of clicks to the site determines the money shelled out which would go to the board owner to pay for the expenses, extra would pocketed but there no fortune and no bags of money here. I would think with the traffic here the owner can meet expenses but I do not know for sure. My board is paid totally out of my pocket, there are zero ads, I do not want to owe anyone a cent. Al

Harleigh my Airedale and I hit the timber this afternoon to see what we could come up with, she treed two Squirrels but I gave them a pass as I have a few in the freezer now. She flushed a Hare out from under a windfall but I was on the wrong side and could not get a shot off. Harleigh trailed for a bit but she is far from being a rabbit-hare dog and lost it, she just does not have the nose power like a good Beagle. Even though we came home empty handed we had a good time. Stopped at the mailbox and found a prize I had ordered, a primitive knapped knife made by flint knapper Tony Stanfield, I have always wanted one of these for my collection and finally I bit the bullet and got one. This thing is very nice and very sharp, would have no problem field dressing and skinning a Deer. Al

Well I am tapping out of this Cluster_Puck thread, I allow myself around a half hour a day on social media and I have gone way over the limit. 40 degrees here, I am grabbing a gun and my dog and going hunting, see if I can kill something but probably won't, too soft. Al

One good thing I see the hits are adding up big, the advertisers love it. Al

With the likes of you and some of the other beauties that fled there! not a chance in Hell, I want no part of that board, I like it here. Al
-
Talk about spin, there is not a thing wrong with the thread it is you people from the other board that can not stand to see anything positive said about this board, consequently here you come starting your crap, you have a track record for doing it every few weeks the same ones time after time, it is all here to see. I would like for you to tell me is there anyone from this board going to your place stirring the pot?? And would it be allowed??? Al

Lets cut to the chase, they are here to undermine this site in any way they can, the sorry excuses for being here are laughable. They are not satisfied that they have a site that they always wanted and brag up, this site must be destroyed as far as they are concerned. It shows every time they come here, and these shits shows are they only time you see them for the most part, not to contribute useful tips to the board members all the rest of the times. Ya they post a complimentary post once in a while to keep their feet in the door, that is about it. Quit the charade! Al

I am sorry to inform you that you are wrong. There may be a few bots but the majority are not. I think I know what bots are and what I am talking about, I have a lot of experience with message boards. Al

Much to your chagrin this board as long as it is online and stays clean will cruise along nicely just as it is. Let me give you a little lesson about message boards, I have run three and one is coming up on it's 20 year anniversary and going strong. I did some surveys when I first got involved with message boards, the number one reason folks come to them is for "information". You will find that only a very small percentage of members post frequently, most do not join to get into some kind of circle jerk in crowd, in fact most never post and this board is a good example. It has 9000 members now. My Airedale board is the same, there is a core group of hunting dog folks that know what they are talking about that do the most posting, the vast majority of members log on and never post but read the content profusely, they are looking for useful and accurate information. I belong to several other boards for things like cars and motorcycles, have belonged to them for years and never made a post. It is all about content, good content gets clicks and traffic and this board has plenty of it. Al

This site gets hundreds of hits every day, there were several hundred guest hit the other night, they all count when it comes to advertising. This board is alive and well. It is all about content and this board has it in spades. Al

Could not pay me to join that site. Al

I see on ebay there are still a few old Wham-O slingshots around Al
-
My first slingshot was a Wham-o and made from wood, I later picked up a Wrist Rocket that I believe I still have somewhere. Like just about everything else slings shot like archery equipment has evolved and some have got Hi Tech with provisions for flashlights and laser sighting. They are a lot of fun. Al

Watching the Brownsville Maine site I see most of the young bucks have dropped their horns, the big guys are still holding on to theirs, many of the medium size bucks have dropped one side. With this bare ground sheds should be easier to find. Al
-
I ain't going anywhere!!! I like it here just fine. Al
-
My Dad talked a lot about hunting with a sling shot when he was a young boy, he made his own equipment using mostly tire inner tubes to propel his shot. He claimed to have killed squirrels and rabbits with his home made sling shots. I have played around with sling shots myself and they can be quite entertaining, I used steel balls for ammo but I have never hunted with it. If I am not mistaken sling shot are illegal in NY these days. Anyhow I came across this fellow's site and was amazed on how big sling shots are in his part of the world. When you can not own and fire guns like we here in the USA you come up with plan B. If there is a will to hunt there is a way, with trained Dogs, Ferrets and sling shots these guys are still hunting and they are good at it. They also hold competitive sling shot matches. Take a good look, as it pertains to hunting this country of ours is heading down the same path as Europe did a bout 50 years behind, we may be hunting with sling shots here one day. Al

I don't know squat about Bears but I am thinking that one is up and around a tad early. Al
-
Watched the local weather out of Syracuse this morning, not surprised but I ain't going to complain too much, at least around my neck of the woods we have not had the usual feet of snow.
-
The only recognition that counts for the hunting I do is from myself, if I think I did a good-skillful job I am happy. If I screw up there will be no bigger critic than myself. I do not give a Rat's ass what somebody else thinks of my kind of hunting and of any game I may or may not take and I certainly will not waste my time on a message board arguing about it. Al

Small Game Hunt with Elsie & Harleigh
airedale replied to airedale's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
I hear you, I have had several of those kind of days hunting Hare, for me it always is about the performance of my Dogs, if they do a good job that is what counts and gives me the most enjoyment whether I limit out or strike out. Next time out things may go your way, good luck. Al -
Seems like more and more items are being put on Amazon's no ship to NY State's shit list. I see the Bug A Salt fly shotgun and Ralphie's Daisy Red Ryder among many things although perfectly legal that can no longer be shipped here. You will shoot your eye out! I had an early version of the Bug A Salt that I kept out on the deck to knock off any bothersome Bees or Flies and it worked pretty good. My grandson liked hunting flies with it so I gave it to him. Thought I would get the new improved model but I see Amazon will not ship so I guess I will have to find one on ebay. Poked around on Amazon and found there are many things now on the list. Al

I am pretty much in step with what Charlie posted, small game hunting and plenty of it. Al

Small Game Hunt with Elsie & Harleigh
airedale replied to airedale's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
Good luck to you, hope you have a good hunt. For me there is not many things more fun than a good Beagle bringing a Hare around to the gun. My old Beagles passed way a couple of years ago and I am seriously thinking about getting a pup to mess around with in my old age LOL. With zero snow on the ground around my place I was hoping my Airedale would flush one, with their white winter coats one would think they would be easy to find but that is not the case. They sense they are vulnerable and sit real tight, they get under some cover and you almost have to kick them out to make them move. Al -
Going to give Trapping a try!
airedale replied to First-light's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
One thing I would like to mention is a well trained trapline dog can be a valuable asset especially when staking traps to drags. Back when I trapped my dogs made some nice recoveries for me. Terriers do very well with this sort of work but I think any gritty dog with some hunt in them can work out. Mark Zagger a member of my Airedale board is a big time user of trapline dogs, he like Irish Terriers and their crosses. A post of his below. If you get real serious about trapping a good dog is something to consider. Al -
Have a good one!
