It is age not genetics that's the issue.

I have a bad coyote problem this year and need to do something about it. Is there a decent place to get trapping supplies in the Rochester to Corning area??? I use the internet but I need these sooner than later. I have trapped before, I just don't have the needed stuff for a quality dirt hole set.

I don't like statewide mandatory, I do like statewide choice and education and would hope most seasoned hunters would pass on 1.5 year old bucks. I respect everyone's decision on how they hunt, what the hunt as long as it is legal. That is the main difference with the notorious negative agitator we all know on this thread.... he doesn't have mutual respect.

Early likes to bash anything modern yet he is on a hunting internet forum.... any great hunter wouldn't do that. Then he bashes people who work their property to make it better, in hopes of better deer and better deer hunting. Maybe we should bash him as a lazy old coot, and assume he can only shoot a little 1.5 year old buck cos he is the almighty hunter. I think he is making up for his short comings as a hunter and who knows what else is short.... that must be why he is the most negative troll agitator on this forum.

Best bang for your buck gear
WesternNY replied to bk225's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I tend to shop the cabelas bargain bin. You can get some very good hunting clothes for cheap. You need to check it often and my guess is after season will be the cheapest. -
Wind is the biggest challenge for my place. It often changes swirls and gives me angina. I would imagine a lot of WNY is like this????

This is complete nonsense..... a spike can and do grow into great bucks. This is basic deer biology. Also you CAN NOT affect the gene pool in wild free ranging deer... basic biology. Also the does genes make up impacts the buck off-springs antler potential, yes this is true. Here is a WNY buck that was a spike. He has a distinct white nose and easy to keep tabs on, he is a 3 year old now. Here is info from Charlie Alshimer on spikes Q: Are spikes genetically inferior? A: No. In most cases, spike bucks are not inferior. The old adage "once a spike, always a spike" could not be further from the truth. There are seven primary reasons why a yearling buck grows spike antlers and only one of the seven involves genetics. A one-year-old spike buck is equivalent to a twelve-year-old boy. The fact that his body is still in its early stages of development makes it very difficult to predict what he might one day become. It won't be until age three or four that you will have a good idea of what his potential is. Here is about genetics http://www.qdma.com/articles/why-we-cant-manage-deer-genetics Mis-management bucks http://www.qdma.com/corporate/mis-management-bucks I am amazed on how many people state completely inaccurate statements. All deer hunters don't have to become wildlife managers but get some basic education and insight before.

Hasn't this been discussed enough here... and discussion here isn't going to change for or against. You need to voice your opinion to the DEC.
-
Deer need to eat every 4 hours, and there are reports if seeking and chasing, so you have a chance.
-
Not being able to see someone else's opinion and getting fired up over your rest is the sad part. Some folks on here think they are Fred Bear and the deer whisperer combined.

He is 3.5 min, I would like to see his legs and more of his belly line.
-
Called it a morning.... I had one buck at 75 yards making a hell of a rub..... but that was it. A friend got a nice 10 point this AM..... haven't heard the story yet.

I have to dig out some stumps in the upper plot with a rented mini excavator, plant a few more apple trees, maintain the existing clover chicory plots and likely put in 4 acres of corn and 1/4 acre of brassicas.

Only have 3.4 mph here at 430 AM.

1 hour before sunrise

Acting like a bunch of school girls over a rest? Go sit in a tree.

I went from a Wb (past 6 seasons) to a drop away and have never shot better. A new drop away, one that has arrow containment and silenced padding is the way to go. It offers everything a Wb does and allows the arrow to be free and clear.

Belo it matters to someone who is asking who perhaps wants to harvest a 3.5 vs a 2.5 Sometimes the difference from 2.5 to 3.5 in the body is subtle. I would love to see I picture of that buck square and broadside on Nov 1. Still I feel 99% sure he is 3.5

Tough angle, but I think 3.5,

Trio of fully mature NY bucks...
WesternNY replied to WNY Bowhunter's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
Did he even say it was from One farm? Did I miss it somewhere??? -
Great morning, I saw 3 bucks, 1 2.5 year old.... my buddy saw 4 bucks and 5 does. Trail cams show dramatic increase in activity and some very nice bucks never seen before! Rubs and scraping activity starting to pick up as well.

Up at 4, out the door and walk to stand at 545... it is 45 degrees here...... was 43 when I went to bed around 1030pm.

I have used all 3. I prefer Costanza's or Wilson.

I would call him "Stretch"!

I think you guys are a little early to be sitting all day. Sure someone will have success sitting all day, but with all this mast this year the deer don't have to travel far for food. I would be on acorns in the woods for solid AM and PM sits.
