  1. Coops are work, most of all it takes time and commitment. It is highly recommended and encouraged. This is a pretty good read: http://www.qdma.com/news/deer-hunters-in-qdm-cooperatives-enjoy-higher-hunting-satisfaction Keeping doe numbers in-line with carrying capacity and getting 1.5 year old bucks a chance at seeing 2.5 are the main building blocks.... but there are many building blocks when building something.
  2. https://www.dropbox.com/s/rt07eb3y6asu8g0/2014%20Banquet%20FINAL%20ORDER.pdf Updated Link to the Ticket form. If may look scrambled, but once downloaded for print it will be intact.
  3. Scholarship application deadline is March 15, 2014 You must know a HS Student who Graduates in our region that could use $1,000? Pass this on!
  4. We hope to see you this Saturday AM! Doors open at 8:30AM we should finish up around 11:30 AM. The weather looks good, come listen to 2 great lectures of whitetails! - Mike
  5. I have a small chest freezer, easily fit 2 deer and a turkey, it was cheap I think like $110. I organize the meats in plastic grocery bags so it is easy to find what I am looking for.
  6. Rochester is getting a Field and Stream, so Gander will be done in Rochester soon!
  7. typically triple 15 run 15-17 for 50#, 15.50 for potash and 17 for urea. all 50# remember to look at your needs of each category vs price. N-P-K Nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium triple 15 represent 15% of each, so in a 50# bag you are only getting 7.5 pounds. If you mix and match to what you need you should be able to save $$$$$$$$$ Buying in bulk and not in bags saves more $$$$$.
  8. 5 Months away, but this is going to be another great quality event! Location TBA
  9. I would talk with as many guys as I could that have used a particular outfitter. I booked for 2015 after meeting the outfitter and having 6 friends who have went with him and are all repeat customers. This is a wilderness Montana Elk Hunt with a success rate of 50%.
  10. I asked the same thing, it is the updated version of internet explorer. Download Google chrome... it works.
  11. Congrats again, hell of Moose. I hope to head up there in 2017!

  13. I can vouch for Cummins Nursery and Adams County Nursery in PA. Google search for both. Also Wafler nursery in Williamson I have heard but not used does nice work and they also offer trees in wildlife packages. Wafler is also found on the web. Generally if you order in big numbers you can save..... I usually order fruit trees every year and offer friends the chance to order with me, this year I am planting 500 Norway Spruce 4a plugs from Itasaca Nursery.
  14. http://www.qdma.com/corporate/deer-steward-courses The QDMA Deer Steward II class in being held at North Country Whitetails Demo Property in Sept 2014. This is a great long weekend class that will have appeal to hunters who are passionate about whitetails and involved in improving habitat. This class is held twice a year at different areas in the country, chances of it being back in the area anytime soon are slim. Deer Steward I is required before you can take II, DSI is available on-line, via Clemson University. I completed my DSI this way. I found it informative, easy to navigate. You complete it at your own pace within 6 month. Use the link above for more details. If you have questions, shoot me a PM. Branch Vol do get a discount, verified and registered with the Branch, get involved and save some $$$$.
  15. Tickets go on sale 1/1/14, order early and save $$$$$$$$$$$ and get free a chance on a gun. We will sell out again this year. 16. Another view of the double hay set... I used red fox urine from Night Owl as well..... fox are attracted to it and it makes yotes go crazy...
  17. Well I have been running just the 3 dirt sets within100 yards of the house to make it easier to check on work days and to prevent having to push deer in season. Today I decided to put out 8 coon sets and 5 yote sets, 1 with 2 traps. I am trying the Mark Zaggman Conduit set and then hay sets. This is my first one, instead of a dirt hole you use grey plastic conduit for your bait/lure.... I have sheeps wools in there. The white is trapping anti freeze over mainly peet. This set was a dirt hole and something dug the wool and bait out so it needed a remake.. I think it was froze. This is my second conduit combo hay set.... trap is just laying on the ground with a little antifreeze powder and hay over the trap. makes for a good winter set. Before the hay With the hay This is a good pic of a traditional hay set. 2 coil springs one on each side of the small hay pile. They are attracted to the hay... think mice. In the main pile I have sheeps wool soaked in ground up mice bait from Night Owl Lures.... from the Rochester area. Give them a look, high quality lures and bait. Again traps are just laying on the ground, staked well, not dug in. Coon sets 8, are DP Dukes with dog food and Plum Loco from Night Owl. I set my yote sets 10 on center from bait... except the double hay... for that they should prance around looking for mice and hopefully stepping on the pan. I do have fox, but main purpose is to reduce my whitetail predators.
  18. I am going in 2015 on a Montana Wilderness elk hunt.... horse back 8 hours to the tent camp. Success rate varies, but on average just under 50%. Friends I am going with have hunted with this outfitter before and I got a chance to meet him. Hunt is 4k, flight 900 tags 750 to 900 depending on if you want just elk or mule too, tips and incidentals another 750 to 1K. Then add if you are successful getting the meat home and taxidermy bill. I view this as a hunt, but as an adventure.
