  1. It is a Remington 700....HS precision stock...has had trigger work done to it to polish and adjust. The guy I bought it from said he had a custom trigger put in but I don't believe it....looks just like my other 700's. For anything other than bench or varmit I would adjust it up a bit. I have never had it scaled but it is light. It has the varix II 6.5-20 x44 on it. I have taken chucks out to 425 yards with it....300 yard shots are a slam dunk ...prone on a bipod. I don't have a bipod anymore though. The barrel is mint. I have to look into it a bit but I think it should go for around 800-900. but I will firm that up
  2. Sits...I do have to disagree with you on one thing...well amybe more than one...lol Those remote areas of Ny that are so difficult to hunt and where sighting are so low have the ability to produce some of the largest buck in the state.
  3. http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/wildlife_pdf/09deerrpt.pdf I was reviewing the 2009 reports and a few thing struck me. the age structure of the bucks taken are pretty much the same throughout the state regions. the rack structure is also pretty much the same. the bucks per square mile taken seems low where I would expect it...ADKs. I would love to see these graphs on age structute for each WMU
  4. free market insurance ..... allow across state line sales of policies. and but a damn damper on frivilous law suits
  5. Wasn't saying anything bad about your response. Just was trying to get a feel for the attutude of the landowners down there. I know a few guys that hunt them on some State land down there but it is hit and miss (more miss actually) since the crops aren't on the state land
  6. Just getting ready to leave foe the weekend hunt....if it is ok I will throw them up on Monday
  7. Steve...wasted time?....the landowners u know don't want them gone?
  8. just saw this one listed.....might work for you http://rochester.craigslist.org/grd/2005001943.html
  9. What type of Yote hunting do you do? I was thinking about letting my .22-250 go but it is bull barrel...synthetic stock w/ 6.5-20 Varex II scope. it is very heavy but a real shooter
  10. That gives me a great idea Bushnell....hunt the neighbors pond...lol
  11. I carry 4. TommyC...3 rounds of ammo while gun hunting? Are you kidding me...lol I have had to help in some long tracking jobs to finish off on a poor shot...3 never cuts it in those situations. Rifle...5 in the gun....9 in the stock sleeve and 10 in the back pack. ---muzzleloader....loaded...5 speed loaders....components for 5 more shots. hey....hunts can last a long time and you never know when WW3 might break out while we are away from civilization...lol
  12. Exactly Steve!!! the key is bringing the scope to you line of sight on a target...not using the scope to aim it at the target. I am very left eye dominant and that doesn't work so well being a right handed shooter but I have learned to cope with practice. My 2.5-10 has my lowest magnification on any of my guns. most are 3x9. on most watches I leave it low and turn it up as conditions allow. One thing to note is hunting style.....I could almost see a low power if you do deer drives alot. I am not a fan of shooting at running deer but lowere powere may be of some use in those close moving situations.
  13. Well I am probably in the minority but I on[t have a use for low power magnification. I hae never had a problem getting a deer in the scope but that is all I hunted with after I graduated from teh single iron bead ...lol. I like having the ability to turn up the magnification is the situation allows. My shotgun is topped with a Simmons 2.5x10. I hunt on 2.5 but if given the deer gives me a chance I am turning it up. If I have a deer standing at 75yds I am not shooting on 2.5. your aim point...concentration and your hold is better. If you think you are nice and steady on the low powere turn it up and see...lol. It really lets you see how badly you are moving. Now most of the areas I hunt I can take a 100 yard shot or better (in some directions) to me low power just isn't as good for those.
  14. If it were me I would pass. Although I have seen deer stand and pay no mind to shots in their area. I wount take the chance on educating them but I don't know how close you are doing this to where you hunt.
  15. CNY...that was kind of how it read in your post. First thing I thought of was the hunters don't want you in there...the landowner may want them gone though. He may let you in especially if it the only target specie after the deer season. From what I understand the time after Christams is very good.....focused on food sources and the sign is very easy to see in the SHALLOW snow...lol
  16. On cnbc story the mother was unloading while pointing it into the horse trailer....the kid walked on the other side of it. I guess there is no 100 percent safe direction....but I was taught....muzzle towards the ground away from anything. If she did that her son would still be alive. Muzzle into a horse trailer isn't a safe direction because u can't see through it. I used an older model 700...the type you had to disengage the safety to lift the bolt....didn't care for that feature. Both of my 700's can be unloaded with the saftey on. I still believe after watching the show.....user error or modifications
  17. Were u talking to the hunters or landowners?...if they don't wipe them out they will be very surprised at the damage that will happen to their crops and land. Bide your time...lol...it can be an amazing mind changer when their pockets start to really get hit.
  18. I own 2 and my Father just called me on this to let me know. I was just coming here to see if anyone knew anything. Fan----I think you may have something there with the modifications. It is one of the most popular actions to modify. The 700 is advertised as NOT having an adjustable trigger...but it is. the factory set screws are set and sealed, but came be adjusted....at least they can on the one I have. pull tension and creep screws are on the trigger and if you get aggressive on the creep adjustment it will go off. It is on CNBC tonight. I will be watching
  19. Good luck. I was actually a construction surveyor.....back b4 land surveyors got into it. I was in the operating Engineers union doing it. Figuring slope staking, curves and spirals on highways long hand on the tests....thought we had the world by the butt when HP came out with the 41C....Technology really changed the industry. Some of the surveyors I hire today can't even adjust their own instruments any more.
  20. I am in the construction industry. I was a surveyor by trade when I started out but am now a manager for a construction company.
  21. Was 30 this morning...headed for 56...makes it tough to dress. I am just north of the north line in Poland area
