Antler Restrictions - What are your thoughts?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to TheHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
I know it does...I set my standards and I dont shoot 1.5's....I just wont jump on the band wagon and try to push my preference on others in teh hopes it makes my hunting easier....and that is what it is all about anyway...right admit it...you want t be able to trip over a B&C every time you step out your door- 1885 replies

Whats so hard about passing yearling bucks?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to punch's topic in Deer Hunting
No---more than anything I think the objection comes in response from arrogant and "better than you" posturing by...ummmmm...guys just like you. -
what are your thoughts on that?...seems silly doesn't it. Probably a lot of kids taking them aroound the same time, arent they? I know you instruct and I really am not trying to push your buttons but do the instructors get paid or is it volunteer? I am all for the more safety training the better and it has been a lot of years since I did mine, but if there is a lot of overlap maybe they could remove the over lap and cover more topic.

Help make NY a higher quality deer state
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Santamour123's topic in General Hunting
So the guys that can't hunt with a bow deserve less days in the field than those that do?...for the same freaking license fee...how about we do this but make everyone purchase the days they want to hunt...let say $50 a day...pick as many as you want...come on. -
I don't know...I just went throught the slides and I still have a proble with some of this stuff. Comes across as a sales pitch and let me ry these numbers and tell me what you think. 20 folks put this proposal together based on 20,000 acres....1,000 acres per person. While I hate to sound like a conspiracy nut but this sure smells of big bucks($$$$$ not deer...lol) hunting draw like in the mid west states. No while a 1000 acres sounds like a lot of land...their managed deer sure can easily stray off their property and are getting taken. SO it has to make me question their motives. They pushed the following points.....less disease transmittion...less over browsing ----if the DEC is managing the herd size for a number per acre how is changing the ratio going to change any of these? I remember bio 101 and the envirinmental bucket theory applies....will only hold so much....If they want 10,000 deer in an area...they will manage to that number...just more bucks. No this crap about decreased car accidents. Let me say this will have the opposite effect. Those increased number of bucks are not college frat boys going home from the bar and going to bed if they don't get lucky.....they will be running like crazy to find a lady friend...oh but there arent any...once they hook up with one...all done....remember to 1 to one ratio....( not 100% accurate ...I know the older more mature will be chasing off the younger bucks)....and chasing off a lot more of them since the competition for available does will be much higher....So...all those points the AR folks made about it being an easier less extended rut for the bucks and less stressful...losing less body fat to go into the winter... I think it may be the opposite and I bet the number of car wrecks will go through the roof...no pun intended.

I respect that Joe---The problem I have is there are many that don't choose to hunt like that. And I do not think it is fair for me, you or anyone else to dictate there hunting experience....inside the limits of the law, of course. -

NY---That I agree with ...we all would like to get a nice buck....but most of us do not base the satisfaction of the hunt on the size of the bone as the AR come across as doing. And to those that feel there is more to hunting than horns....they take great offense to someone trying to force views down their throats and mess with their traditions. -
not if you paid for the first ones...they are FREE!! If you didn't apply and pay the $10 the first time...you will have to now...first come first serve

Now that is funny!!

I posted after the fact too...just struck me funny and I laughed out loud

Agreed Steve...my broad heads fly about 8" lower than the field tips and they are the same grain. That would be a $20 squirrel minimum....even with a hit...lol....and I thought the deer meat was expensive

I don't hunt down there and would never presume to say what is best for an area I have no knowledge of. I have seen many of these guys (AR's)start the conversation on a specific area and say they want it for there and don't have interest to tell others what to do...but in the next breath the are talking down the decissions of anyone how take a 1 1/2 yo and tout the AR's for the entire state. I guess it is a certain mind set. I haven't heard one guy opposed to them telling the proponents that they should make their choices differently...but that courtesy in not flowing the other direction.- 1885 replies

now that air guns are legal I am thinking about checking to see if it would be legal to bring a pellet pistol into the stand with me. Freaking arrows are too expensive to be slinging through squirrels...lol
