  1. First, love the deer drawing! Pretty sweet!! Lol Second, you just confirmed my own feelings. I did some quick math in my head and could not understand why 2 or 3 yards would make a difference. Yet, people make such a big deal about it. Thought I was missing something. Then to the other comment, why the hell would someone buy one of those range finders?? Better yet, why are they even made?

Too funny! Used to live in Williamsville (town of Amherst) and know at you are talking about. Those cops are a-holes. There is a reason it's the safest town in America.....cuz there are more cops than fricken residence. If I was talking to any of you in person, I would tell you a hysterical story involving a 6 point buck, my dog and an Amherst cop very excited to use his 9 mm somewhere other than the range!
  3. Just curious what everyone's experience is when / if adjusting your aim for shooting from a Treestand? If you have read some of my other topics, you will know that I have only bow hunted for 3 years. I have not shot a deer with my bow yet. Traded in the "hand me down" for a new Bear Anarchy this year. Been practing out to 50 yards all summer. It is very fast. I just don't see that there could be that much adjustment from shooting in my 20' tree stand! I'm not talking about adjusting to make sure the angle allows the arrows to hit vitals (steep angles you aim higher to make sure you get a good exit point....get that.....no different than a gun). I'm referring to the actual yardage difference that is claimed to effect the shot. Like I said, my bow is stinking fast. Can't fathom being 20' up would change my yardage so much that it would effect the shot, Any insight you folks have would be great.
  4. I saw that. I just figured he had some kickers somewhere you couldn't see.
  5. ok, scrap that last comment. I swear I saw a kicker on his other side, but it must have been the same one. here is a picture a couple weeks later. Just an 11 point.
  6. I have a couple pictures of him just a few weeks later. Nothing recent. I take my cameras down by the mid to end of August so I don't take any chances with spookiing the deer. Yes, that kicker did grow out a bit more. he also grew a smaller one on the other side. He is almost a completely symetrical 12 point. He's a neat buck!
  7. I bet its close! The "X" factor is mass. That record buck looks willowy to me. Pictures can be really deceiving. You put a hunter in the background it can make a buck look giagantic. This buck looks a bit heavier. That extra 10" in scoring for mass is the difference between a 170" and 180" and the difference between an awesome buck and a record book!
  8. Could be. But I could let a 120" 8 Point walk and grow. I am not sure if i could let a 150" + 11 point walk and grow (I am not hunting the midwest here). That is a big buck!
  9. yeah, I wouldn't shoot him, but teh "brown and down" people around me would without batting an eye. He is a young buck (not like 2.5 young, but he is not older than 4.5). I think he could be a dandy if he makes it another year or two. I can only do my job and let him walk....then pray. I have this one on my list for this year:
  10. Whats cool about him is he is pretty "typical." usually when you get into bucks taht have 12, 13, 14 + points it is usually "junk." he has such a perfect rack. I dont' know If have ahve ever seen 7 on one side inline like that. he is over 170" btw whoever guessed that number. I have a 160" behind my house that I have enough pictures of to be damn close on teh measruement and this buck is considerable larger.
  11. ok, got it. Thanks! here are more pictures of "the one in front" I promised.
  12. ok, sorry for the delay in those extra pictures I promised a couple days ago. That whole "work" thing reared its ugly head! So, ok, it doesn't look like I can post an image in an existing thread?? I don't see any options to do so. Am I missing something?
  13. I sit on the edge of a field and it is windy as hell. If the umbrella isn't vented, the wind will rip it off the tree in a week probably. Thanks though!
  14. Yes, mine did. I had mine for 7 or 8 years until a 60 mph wind came through last season and broke it. It almost even survived that. I had no issues with staying dry. They are a lifesaver. Agreed that if it is windy, nothing will stop you from getting wet.
  15. Good call on starting a list. I will have to start paying more attention to the names of these shows. I really wish I could remember the name of that show I mentioned early in this thread about the guy who hunts the New England states (was in NH) the episode I watched. He considered a 130 a huge deer and was actually excited about it. Nice to see! Anyone know of this show? Northeast Safari or something?
  16. That would give me a chuckle too. Sounds like something my 4 year old would say too....lol.
  17. Somehow this topic got turned into "would I shoot the front deer.". The answer is NO. Young buck with lots of potential. Ni hope he lives a few more years. I was wondering about the buck in the background with the weird rack.
  18. Yes, I have other pics. He is tall looking cuz he has great G2's. He has those crappy 3's though which would stop him from scoring. He is about 120 maybe. I will post a few more pics of him when I am at my work computer. Hang tight.
  19. He was 140 on the button. I said he's not a monster just based on this topic thread regarding hunting shows. Monster in my book and thats all that matters. but I would be fined if I shot him on some of these properties these guys hunt on the tv shows.
  20. I looked at that one online but it doesn't look vented. Is it?
  21. Lol....yeah, that 8 has some good genetics. He is a young deer and has good G2's, just has crabby, crappy 3's. If he makes it, he could be a 130+ next year.
  22. Lol....when he looks exactly the same a month later, not hard to determine its the same deer. He Is unmistakable. No, I took my cameras down. I take them down a month before the season. They tend to spook the deer. I sit in my stand with a video camera a couple times before the season. I watched him for about an hour in the field around end of August. Definitely didn't grow much more.
