Al, I appreciate your truthfulness and willingness to learn. I too, hope when I hit the "golden years" I won't be close minded to the idea of still being able to learn... Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

Don't forget to take a can with you to the stand in case you nick it. Great cover scent !!! I have done some stands with rubberised paints and they kill 2birds. Color and sound deadening. Only thing that stinks is selection of colors ! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

Maybe we can compromise grow. Can you understand the title of the OP? Can you admit that you are not hunting for big racked deer ? Can you then admit that since you are not after big racks, that you have no personal experience with the matter ? You hunt with a longbow because it's "tradition" or a challenge ? Do you take and keep pics of any of your harvested deer ? Do you find this forum to be a hunting "community" ? Do you think senior citizens are all smarter or more knowledgeable on most topics than those in their 30's ? Please, take the time to answer my questions and only my questions as I am going to jump off the specific topic and try and learn more about the PSYCHOLOGY you bring to the forum, and to the woods. More opportunity to be in the woods, the deers attitude and behavior during early season, watching the leaves change, seeing more deer (than gun season), the challenge of getting one close enough, opportunity to track blood, and lastly, more opportunity to be in the woods.... Did I mention i like to be in the woods ??? Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

I wouldn't say I needed a sidearm, but I do recall an evening where the Yotes were noisey right at dusk. As I made my trek back to the house (4-500yrds) the pack was following and occasionally making some noise. When I finally got to the mowed grass in the back yard I could hear them in the hardwoods behind me, within 50-75 yards. I kept an arrow knocked but sure would have felt more "comfortable" with a sidearm. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

Here's the thing about this thread, first off reading the OP and understanding what was asked was step one. On the opposite end of that question is "meat hunter" ( since now have broken it down to 2 classes of hunters) we can all figure out the psychology of that category. They like to eat deer. As far as trophy hunters go, I do categorize myself there. And as far as all the dedication and emotion upon success that goes into that way of hunting can be a thrill some may never get to feel. It would have been great for similar minded trophy hunters to explain there ways of hunting and why they do it,but it had to turn into a thread of jabs. It had to meat hunters are this and trophy hunters are that. I really wish we could have stayed on topic and possibly open some minds to the possibilities involved with trophy hunting. Some just are OLD school and set in their ways. I myself enjoy what I do and how I do it. My enjoyment starts with just being in the woods. You all want to agree that that should be our foundation as hunters, right ? Just wanting to go hunting ! Well, for me I'm a trophy guy, and that means I may NOT get a buck all season.... Meaning I'm gonna spend alot of time in the great outdoors chasing whitetails. I am also after meat, but I keep that to the plethora of doe tags and pick and choose when and where, also meaning I am a "meat hunter". The greatest experiances I have had have been simply because my dad was with me, not antler size or pounds of meat. Noone can ever try and convince me that anyway would have been more memorable, that is a fact. I already explained the why in trophy hunting for me, but maybe some should go back and cut through the BS and re read those posts that weren't simply replies from a cornered situation. It's a great way to hunt, and I love it ! Try and grasp the concept and not think I'm out to tell you that I'm right and your wrong. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

True sides.... Again showing the reality of how close minded you are, and set with the standards that YOUR way, YOUR thought process and YOUR opinion is the only way.... Your true side has show ma'am. Your quest is not for big antlers, your quest is to show all us young pups your ways and you have no comprehension of the reality around you and no willingness to learn about others ways of thinking. " For me they are food nothing more. I have never gotten excited about them not even on my first. No more exciting then going to store and buying steak. I am happy for you that you get excited. For me it is a useless emotion that get in the way." Again to my point, what is it in your consistent posting on this subject that you feel is worth your typing and our reading that pertains to the OP ???? I'll tell you this, without tying to call anyone names, but that type of attitude is so far from a "hunter" or a "sportsman". I'm surprised you even belong to a forum... I'm actually disgusted at your attitude towards deer hunting. I think your best bet at this point is to become a deer farmer, I'm sure at some point your investment will pay off and be less expensive than "hunting". Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

According to your last post, it seems as if you like to have disagreements and you think your correct when you can admit your guessing. I think it's safe to ASSume that when you guess about why some trophy hunt, you could be wrong.... Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

stubby, Did you save the racks ? Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

Stubby, I'm not saying it's not true that you have legally harvested 200+ deer during their respective seasons, I'm just throwing a joke out there as that is an absolutely giant number. As I said... Unbelievable. On a side note, not that it makes you at all less of a hunter than the next guy, what is the largest buck you have taken ( antler size) and about how many bucks have you taken that would be in the 3.5 yr old or older ? Out of 200 I am beyond curious to know as this thread is about the quest for antlers, not pelts Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

I still don't understand why there is those who meat hunt ( no offense or judgment ) voicing their opinion on why they think they know the psychology behind the rack hunter. Maybe we should explore the psychology behind those that think they know the psychology of others. If your a meat hunter, and you want to fill your freezer and punch tags and that's it, you CANNOT understand those that are after "racks" "trophy" "mature" deer. Why makes assumptions on the way some hunt if you have never walked a mile in their boots. Whereas some "trophy" hunters are also meat hunters. Point being, the OP and this whole thread could have been informative as to the actual OP, if those that understand or are after the quest for trophy racks could have been able to answer without arguement or disagreements as to who what and why.
