  1. Awesome night tonight in wny to be up a tree ! Just had the guys come through to mark the snowmobile trails. Tractors, atvs, banging in stakes... Etc. Actually hoping it helps me, they are 1/2 mile away, maybe they will bump somethin my way ! Had 2 shooters come through last night, hoping they come a lil closer tonight ! G'luck all !
  2. I know this thread is a lil old but... I just got the frogg toggs full suit for 6o$ from dicks. They are a little noisy but i don't intend on stalking anytime soon, I can get my bow back without noise and they keep me dry ! ! This has been an extremely wet opening week in sz, and I have Def got my $ worth already. I've been wearing a scent blocker base layer and soaking myself in the dead down wind spray. No problems.
  3. Lots of movement so far, still nothing worth my rage... Great morning ! Growalot, I use dead down wind for a scent blocker, they say it covers more than just human odor.... I and many of the whitetail family can verify that it works. Last couple night I hunted a stand that I drive the atv within 150yrds of, I spray down when I'm off then before I go up, I actually had 3 different doe directly under me and one even licked the tree I climbed... Just my opinion but I trust the stuff !
  4. Wish the sz had a early muzzle season ! Good luck
  5. Congrats to all who have one on the ground ! Thankfully i got #1 a couple weeks ago, with a nuisance tag. Nice 115# slick head. Took a little pressure of for my bow season. My b 2 d ratio is great so i prob won't fill that tag till later in the season. Looking forward to post a pic of my own ridge runner very soon....
  6. 824 am. 9h. 48* and lots of rain. Handful of young bucks just starting to chase. Had another encounter with a buck I call the vampire, since he only comes out at night. He is Def a mature buck and considering I can see a bunch of bones at dusk, he's gotta be big. Hoping the coyote from yesterday tries coming a little closer today, I have something for him..... Good luck n stay dry !
  7. Sportsman 600 twin. It's a beast and goes anywhere I want it too. Drags pulls yanks pushes all year round when I'm cutting trees and haven't had any issues.
  8. Since we are all telling our secrets like creamer and old spice, my favorite is to eat a lot of deer jerky the night before a hunt, that way i get all bloated. Tjen the day of the hunt I am able to fart often. Sounds like a dominant buck grunt and smells like a deer ! Cover scents and lots of rattlin' till the rut is on, then I get the hot doe scent, and the bleat and hold on.... Tough thing is gettin the big boys to play along. Sure is fun having the young ones run up on you though ! Have fun, try stuff ! Hunting is always a learning process.
  9. I have been hunting with the bow ( my favorite time of year ) for a dozen years or so, had a bunch of bows over the years, for the last 4 I've had a mathews ultra max, 320+fps ( 70#,30") and have absolutely loved it. It's about 10 yrs old but is as fast and quiet as the new stuff. Had a new string put on last month and about 20 arrows later my top limb " de-lamented " or iny words, my bow blew up in my hands, at full draw. Thankfully I made it out without a scratch. Being that it was a week before season, I freaked out and almost had a panic attack when mathews said they wouldn't be able to make my limbs for me for " a few weeks ". Well that wasn't good enough for me. Even though I haven't shot a deer with the bow till late Oct at the earliest I needed to be ready for opening day ! Called in all my bday and Christmas presents from my fam for the next 10 years and got the Elite Pulse. I can't lie, the z7 mathews felt better but the accuracy, speed and mainly warranty was an easy sell for me. I also like that I'm supporting fellow new yorkers ! The bow is sweet. My favorite thing to so is set up targets @ 50 yards and drill heart sized groups all day long. Very happy with it and it really seems well built. I go to S&S in springville and always get treated well, and they have been very patient with me through out this whole process. Being comfortable is key, but there are other things to consider IMO. I think if u practice enough with any bow u become comfortable. Shoot them all and do your research. Good luck ! Oh, and if your interested my mathews will be for sale, its older but will be brand new except for the riser. New string, new limbs, fast quiet and light.... and less than half the price of a new one !
  10. I got both 9m and 9f, In that order no pref points needed. Hoping to get at least one 9f 2nd round
  11. Very interesting ! I guess my heard is extra picky, and for that.... They must die ! At least they like the cheap stuff better either way, good luck to all !
  12. HHC1 - it is Def a trial and error and personal preference game we play with scents. I've used them all over the past dozen years and have never had a reaction like i did with the ever calm. Just curious, Have you used the stick ? I heard alot of good things about the company, and may try some of the other products they offer but never again with the stick.
  13. I like to use cover scents in the early archery season. This year I decided to try the deoderant looking ever calm " deer herd on a stick " . Well opening morning I wiped some on a tree out in my plot, then wiped some on the blind and started my season. Had 3 doe come in within 25yrds and spooked immediately upon smelling something.... Hmmm never happened to me before !? Long story short, between 2 different stands and 8 deer, every single one spooked and ran away, white flag flying and snortin the whole way. The next day I took back the 20$ spook stick and got some wildlife research cover / pre rut scent for 5$. Had multiple deer in the plot, under the stand etc. since the switch. I love the w.r. products especially the special golden estrus, and I'm hoping I can help someone with this review, so save ur money ! my only thoughts is that 99% of the reviews online said it was great stuff, but they all seemed to be from the mid west or south. I believe the stick is made in the Midwest, maybe they smell different over there.. ? Either way I strongly discourage anybody from trying this !
  14. I too always have cold feet,or just get cold in general ! I found that ny waterproof rubber boot, I have the muck arctic sport boots, and a pair of heated socks is the best combo ever. I'll usually wait as long as possible to turn the socks on then do cycles of 2o or so minutes with the socks on low. works all day long. Plus muck boots are usually less than 140$, so with socks, batterys, and boots ur less $ than most 2000 gram boots that u won't want to wear early season or spring turkey etc like u can with the mucks. Just my .02
  15. If you are looking to.get some warm gear for late season I highly recommend the arctic shield line. Take it from me, I hate having to.get down cause I'm cold. And trust me, I am always cold ! Did a ton of research last year and almost got the HBS but I ended up getting the arctic shield h7 series jacket and bibs. For the first time in my hunting career I was able to stay in the stand long as I wanted no matter the temp. it is defiantly worth the money. I only have 2 complaints though, the camo colors are very light due to the suede like outer shell. Also that same suede seems to me like I could tear it if I got into some briars. Other than that it has Def impressed me ! Check pit their site and see for yourself
  16. Noob here... Just found the forum and figured is get involved. Lobe in the Boston / Eden area. Have a little over 100 acres in the back yard with a bunch of stands / plots / water holes / sanctuarys etc... From bow to muzzle I'm in the tree. On my land I QDM as best I can, except the local boys surrounding me will shoot button bucks, so I still stick to my personal standards regardless. I have some pretty cool trail cam pics, I'll try and get them up too. Well this is weird, I feel like I'm on a first date... Happy hunting !
