The guy that only shoots a mature buck every few years is not helping pop control at all, often to the detriment of other potential trophy bucks. That said to each his own, but numbers of does taken in overpopulated areas is a critical stat. If you guys would prefer red tags where bald bucks are getting dropped 24/7/365 that's your opinion, id rather see a hunter do it in season under regs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I received quite a bit of heat over the 8 deer I legally harvested this season...meanwhile I drag and process them all by myself. I notice many of the haters are the type who seem to talk about hunting more than actually doing it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well after an exciting NJ start and some early am footage of a public land shooter, the past 2 sits have been super quiet. Gonna give it another half hour or so before I head back across the river to PA and help my folks get ready for their massive extended family Xmas party. If I had some action today I was gonna consider another am sit tomorrow but as of right now this is it for NJ until Feb...yeah well beats not hunting! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If done within regs I got no issues...I blew the chest wide open on a yearling doe this season and she still needed a finisher. As others have stated shooting does is the method to control population. Many hunters still refuse to do it at all so I say fill the tags when you can. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Great story and pics Fasteddie! No for head shots with bow...will finish a wounded deer with a gun headshot. Will shoot a neck with gun inside 20 yds...also know guys who have made the bow front neck shot with success...not for me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My wife is pretty good about it considering we have a 22 month old kid and no family in NY. Her rope was worn thin by late gun season in NY but I took it easy on her then and most of late bow. Now my hunting is a weekend thing or in this case she is spending time at her mothers a couple days...she'd rather have me in the woods than moping around over there! If Mr. B wants to hear about a whitetail addiction he should talk to my wife...they could start a support group. I wish I had your backyard setup...Mr. B should be grateful there's lil travel involved in your whitetail dependency! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Back at it clear calm and 28: Had this guy by the stand a couple times early Xmas morning: And grow I know several folks that hunt dmfa and only 1 of my buddies ever doubled on doe over there and he did it this 2013 gun opener using dmfa tags. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It's an addiction for sure.We are visiting family for the week down in PA near the jersey border...I had to set my stand in prep for Thursday morning anyway, haha! I'll be back for the Xmas eve party tonight...3 parties tomorrow then my wife is staying with my son at my MIL's thurs- sat... ill be hunting, then another party Saturday before we head back north Sunday...I'm balancing family time with hunting to maintain sanity! Hey I'm not the only one out... Pheasant field parking lots are packed and its been non stop gunfire this afternoon.

@cfab there are 2 parks in dmfa but they are bow only...if you sign up thru Cornell I believe you can gun hunt Cornell property.

Sitting in a tree in central jersey...would post a pic but this forum is crashing tapatalk right now. Nice to be hunting again after 8 days off...very mild and flurries with light wind...surrounded by oaks and thicket. Merry Christmas Eve!

Im still laser focused on whitetail. Washed and packed my gear in prep for NJ either sex bow hunting 12/24-12/29. Pulled some stands, got my climber and a hang-on packed. Received my bow permits yesterday. Finishing up butchering #8 today...this season the first half of my deer if you hung them overnight they turned brown, second half if you let em hang overnight they froze solid! Making sausage and jerky this weekend. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Crazy question IMO. We live in a society, when rules change you still follow them. I hunt in 3 states and 6 different wmu's all with different regs...I hunt under whatever regulations exist...that's why it's called hunting and not poaching. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have a couple solid producers in small woods around agriculture. I like bordering edges of apple brush/multiflora thickets, ravines, swamps and hardwood and/or pines. I also like to incorporate running water near my sets for 3 reasons: It's obviously a water source, but more importantly it is a covered approach trail when it is in a ravine, and finally it provides a perfect cover sound for a clean approach and allows for minor noises from movement while in the stand. My best producers incorporate all of these elements. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
