Tompkins DMFA in and around Ithaca re-opens mid-jan thru the end of jan and is 2 doe/day. You just need to register and you print your own free tags. There are bow only public parks there, buttermilk falls is one. One of the reasons there is such a glut of deer in that area is because there is not very much Hunter access it's a lot of residential area and private land/ag. I hunt some private land but you can also hunt Cornell property once you register with them. I got a doe down there 12/2. I also hunt NJ and PA early and late seasons, (this season just NJ) the Jersey license comes up in January you can get your 2014 non-resident bow license for $135 and hunt with it jan-feb and sept-nov. I just bought my additional NJ permits so I can shoot either sex (with 3on1 AR) Xmas eve - 12/29 as well. Tons of small woods/suburban public land in central jersey. Bait is legal, shooting hours 1/2 hour before and after but no Sundays on most public land. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks...I love everything about snow harvests...eating some tenderloin on potato roll sandwiches now! Here was a bit of a review I did after I got my 4th deer with the rage this season, my mature 8 pt: http://huntingny.com/forums/index.php?/topic/19672-Rage-2-Blade-Entry-Wounds/page__view__findpost__p__254182

Got my first ever NY late bow season harvest this pm, passed the same pair of does yesterday with the ML and decided to bring the bow out for the rest of the season and take anything but a yearling buck. Slightly quartering toward, called her into my lanes with a doe grunt and contact call after her partner had kicked her away from some browse. Passed thru long ribs on both sides but still exited back far enough to blow the liver in half...she trotted 30 yds and wobbled-over. 5 harvests with my new pse bow madness xs and rage 2 blades this season, including a mature 8 pt, love it! This was a cool way to end the NY season, having harvested deer in the Early, Regular and Late Seasons and tagging out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Just looked out the window and noticed the main body of Otisco Lake has got skim ice. Below the causeway and up by the dam has been frozen over a week now...looks like we are in for a real winter. I'll be hunting pines and thickets this pm. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

After not seeing anything late season I finally had two smallish doe in bow range yesterday AM but chose not to blast one with the ML. Decided overnight I'd have taken her with the bow so I'm finishing off the season with stick and string. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Didn't you harvest your doe after you spotted her out of your house...there's still time! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I started late season with the bow...a couple ML harvests on this board motivated me to take it out the past few trips, but only seeing small deer in range (and in bow range) I decided to go back to bow and if I get a crack at a lil one now ill take it...just didn't want to gun down another young doe. My wife kept me up late last night and even with my decent 4wd truck I didn't feel like navigating snow covered roads 25 miles at 5:15 am again...so I'm gonna hunt the public land this afternoon and make my way to the lease for the last time tomorrow. If you woke your wife you are a braver man than I! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If I can get out of my driveway tomorrow am I'll be heading to my lease for the last time this season. After that I have 2 more mornings nearby at my trusty public honey hole. It's been a fruitful NY season and my personal best in terms of number harvested, but worst in terms of sightings, I cashed in on limited oportunities. I saw zero bucks at my lease during shooting hours...and only saw 1 big mature buck anywhere all season, saw him twice and harvested him. It follows that I saw zero coupling in any form for the first time in 6 years of hunting in CNY. Meanwhile I have plenty of sign and nighttime pics of a large healthy herd of big ag deer. I blame all the long standing corn and plentiful masts with the mild bow season and incredibly harsh early gun and late bow/ml. I am starting to already mentally prepare for NJ Xmas archery...setting my stand and mms camera, and some legal nutritional encouragement on Xmas eve and hunting 26-28th. I will also be back in Feb for late bow after Tompkins Dmfa ends in January. Still I feel a bit of despair that the day to day phase of my whitetail hunting is nearly over, back to home maintenance and renovations, and lots of archery practice... Find some friends around Ithaca and you can hunt in January. I went to college there so I've got some hook ups...didn't see any last year in January tho, just about a thousand turkeys. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
