    Some mornings I have a hard time getting up, but unless its pouring in archery season I almost always get up because I've talked myself into harvesting many times by getting up. Also, I'm so obsessed with whitetail hunting that I literally dream about it all year...that helps get me out there from Sept in NJ to NY oct to january (tompkins Dmfa) back into NJ thru feb for winter bow season. Finally I have only seen 1 mature buck in the past month and I got him with the bow...seeing picks of mature bucks on my game cams keep me out any chance my wife and son will give me. That said...if your not feeling it, don't half ass it or you'll end up making a mistake of one sort or another because of lack of focus. Sounds like youve got it sorted...kill face!     Went down Tompkins dmfa to hunt with a buddy...was supposed to be in PA for gun opener but my wife isn't feeling well so I skipped pa and made a short drive to Ithaca this morning instead. Was gonna wait on a nice buck in pa but since my wife is sick and Tompkins is 2 doe a day I decided to take another nice doe around 7:30am. Under the shoulder blew off 3/4 front leg on the way out...she still ran like crazy, second shot blew off lower back leg...still had to finish her when I got down...gumpshin. Not pretty but almost no meat lost other than the lower 1/4 of the exit shoulder. Now in home and my wife scheduled a dr's appointment for this afternoon. Gonna focus on a big buck again later this week into the weekend. Got 1.5 to butcher til then. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Back home...20 mins after those two does walked by there was shooting in the direction they were heading. Got down at like 10 and took a slow stroll to my Ridgetop stand and changed the batteries on my mms cam. Fresh tracks everywhere...fresh urinated pool/snowcone then a long trail of huge tracks/urine...but it led off the property. Farmer saw a monster chasing behind his corn cribs yesterday and the other lease of his has harvested 3 mature bucks since gun opener. Tons of shooting nearby this morning, most yet for me.     I didn't realize you were in jersey...I got a coyote there in September and had to pass a nice 7 because I hadn't filled a doe tag. I will be back after Christmas for one last chance to fill 2013 tag and buying my new tag and hunting jan-feb late season...I hunt near Philipsburg. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Most animals internal calendars are influenced by solar photoperiod which is relatively stable from year to year. So when the sun is in a certain position the amount of light in the day is relative. The other calendar of nature is the moon...and most menstraul/reproductive cycles in mammals follow that.     That is a great study and most deer ecologists agree with that post to some degree. However, This is one place where I think people get confused between deer biology and deer behavior. The biological process of actual breeding may not be effected by the moon or weather, meaning doe may indeed only be able to conceive on those particular days in Nov (and then 28 days later if not bred). But that does not mean that the social behavior and non-reproductively-viable sex that is going on cannot vary in date according to other conditions...availability of food, weather or moon phase/location in particular. Moreover what hunters refer to as the rutt is more about hunter daytime observations. So Charlie Alzheimer's predictions of late rut may mean that lunar conditions will make for better daytime buck sightings during the second breeding period, not that all doe are breeding late or randomly.     Witnessed almost zero rutt activity this bow season...got my archery buck on a rub line coming in on estrous wicks Nov 3, his neck was swollen but he was my fourth deer taken in archery and none smelled of tarsal and they didn't have stained hocks. Once gun season opened the fawns got dispersed and both doe I took in the past 2 weeks did have stained hocks. +1 that the late rutt coupled with a mild bow/harsh gun season and tons of mast and standing corn made for reduced sightings of any kind including rutt activity sightings.
