  1. I think the demise of the Chipmunk is the House Cat. I like Chipmunks they can keep you amused for hours on stand. i
  2. Glad it worked out for you, John. Good Luck! Hope you tag that Buck! Have a Safe & Successful Season!
  3. Having hunted and lived in PA. I kinda like the fact that Sunday is a No Hunting Day. Mainly to give the private landowner and the wildlife a brief break. Allowing Sunday hunting is going to increase pressure on landowners who allow access presently to their land. And will undoubtedly lock up more land as unaccesible for hunting due to landowners closing access due to additional pressure. A couple of points: 1) Hunters are environmentalists too and we are better off finding common ground versus further alienation and deteriorating relationships; 2) the article was flawed from the start, there was no mention of who funds and PAYS for the Habitat and Wildlife! It certainly ain't the Birdwatchers!!!!
  4. BGF.. 54" is about as short as they're going to get, I would think. This bow is 60 inches.
  5. Price Reduced! $200.00 TYD - Any lower and I'd be giving this bow away.
  6. Hi..just came back from Lake George... I'm in Staatsburg half way betweem Hyde Park and Rhinebeck.
  7. Interesting question. I love to bow hunt yet there are many countries particularly in Europe that do not allow bow hunting. Guess I'd have to travel to where it was allowed. And fish more.
  8. I just go out to DECALS and order on the first day right off the computer. Then they mail it to me.
  9. Northwind Traditional Archery - Flatbow for sale. This bow is 55# @28. With Red Elm Limbs, Bow is 60 inches long. If you look for it, there is a small dimple in the glass on the upper limb, but otherwise it is not even a noticeable blemish, nor does it effect the bow's looks or performance. In Excellent Condition. $250.00 TYD
  10. Joe is top notch! You will never go wrong a ND Archery.
  11. I use to run 6 days a week, 7 miles a day. But, arithritis took care of that. I am fortunate enough to live by a state park, so my german shepard dog gets me out on the trails for a work out every other day for 2 or 3 miles. Yesterday, did an 8 mile mountain hike with my wife. As age creeps up, I want to go into each hunting season in as good as shape as I can. It's important for all of us. We forget just how physical hunting is.
  12. I doubt that Cat was from South Dakota. All it proves is that it's genologocial DNA came from South Dakota, It could have still e somebody's pet gotten loose or let go. We all been hunting a long time. If there were Mountain Lions in New York, we all be finding tracks and scat. And no one has ever found any. And no proof to be found on all those thousands of trail cameras out there either.
  13. Why is the term "Hunter" even considered in the title of this thread. Like an Ill-informed public we are also associating "Hunters" with Animal Cruelty???!!! Nothing like shooting ourselves in the foot! NO. Whomever is doing these things is sick and criminal, and should be dealt with that way.And for the record that is NOT a hunting arrow in the swan, it's a field tip.
  14. DOC ... your arrogance isn't even worthy of a response. I won't continue this senseless debate. I maintain that given the events of the day, even if they had had the same weaponry that we have today, the wording of the 2nd amendment would not have changed. While the times may have changed, the sentiments behind that amendment haven't. Your example of a flawed gun law makes me wonder just how you would write a law to take care of that situation. Would you outlaw all firearms that are not single shot? I am not trying to be a jerk or anything, I am genuinely curious as to how far some of you people would go before you were satisfied that gun laws were adequate to end gun crimes. I realize that you are just one person on that side of the debate, but I think it would be instructional to at least get your opinion on how far is enough. As far as who is at the head of the NRA, I guess that just like my relationship to the US ...... the leadership doesn't always come up to my liking, but that doesn't have me deserting the country....lol.
  15. Mr. VJP.. I cannot argue with you on the letter of the law when it comes to the second amendment. But times have changed. In 1789, every man was equal with a single shot musket. Today, even many police departments are out gunned. The fact that, that whacko ibn Arizona could be a concealed fireman and multiple 13 round magazines and the process of law was followed, just demonstrated how tragically flawed it is. Other point.. When I joined the NRA in the late 60's it WAS a retired Army General who was President. Now the NRA has Draft Dodgers and stuffed shirts in 600 dollar Washington suits running the show. I rest my case.
  16. AAAAHHHHH! Something we can all agree on! Good Stuff! ;D
  17. I'm sorry I haven't witnessed anyone from the Obama Administration beating down my front door for my guns yet. And I did not say "Leader" I said "Spokesperson". and most who read both sides of the issue would know who I mean. Other than Mohammed Ali... the most famous draft dodger of the 20th Century is none other than whacko, Ted Nugent. He's either got a lot of nerve or no scrupples at all, wrapping himself in the American Flag! We used to have a name for folk like him, they were called pussies! Maybe the NRA just doesn't get it, Ol' Uncle Ted isn't FOR the U.S.A., NRA or anyone else, he's only all for himself.
  18. Well.. as I stated earlier. We agree to disagree. And this disagreement has been battled in the courts for decades now. Problem is both extremes fail to compromise. And in the end it will be the sportsman that suffer. Well.. the NRA at least has chosen the World's Numero Uno CHICKENHAWK as their spokesperson. What a relief!!!! Doesn't get anymore hypocritical than that. Or maybe that's just appropriate.
  19. If I sound elitist. That's okay I can live with that. I see just as much arrogance coming from your side too. As for the Rapid Fire capable firearms.. that is exactly what we did.. we banned them from use on the range. Sure we had a choice.. we could have thumbed our noses at our neighbors and then wind up in litigation and lawsuit, for which my club like many others would just put us into bankrupcy and shut down the club forever. For the record, we asked the NYSRPA for opinion and guidance on range use and the constitutionality of Local ordiances against existing "grandfathered" gun clubs, we asked several times and got no reply. Hence, we no longer support them either.
  20. Do not get me wrong Doc. I do understand your point. However, as an Army Sharpshooter and Benchrest shooter, we all know the types that go to gun ranges with Military style firearms, has little to do with marksmanship, and a lot to do with just getting their jollies off. As past president and current director of a local gun club, I can tell you, when these guys come in with their military style guns and rapid fire for 30 to 60 minutes, the local neighbors get very alarmed. And I don't blame them. I fail to see any sporting value in these things. If the value is psychological, than that is part of the problem. Arizona shooting case in point.
  21. Doc.. your lecture is on Deaf Ears! And I still find your attitude condescending. Not everyone agrees with the NRA. I know Jim Zumbo did not, and it nearly cost the gentlemen his long and distinguished career as an outdoor writer and personality. If I am in error, I will error on the side of common sense. If deer hunters need 15 - 30 round magazines, and military style BAR's to go hunting. We are all in trouble. Oh, well.. we agree to disagree. That's fine.
  22. Well, Doc... I've spent the last 25 years active in the shooting sports programs, sportsman's education, local, regional and national organizations. And I put time and money into all of it. So please excuse me if I don't salute to the NRA anymore. I am not one to sit on my duff and do nothing. I am more active than most. Spare me the condensending attitude about how wonderful the NRA is. Extremeist attitudes on both ends instead of common sense, and everyone loses. And yes, in many cases, such as Gabrielle Gifford's case, very good people wind up paying a terrible sacrafice. Sorry for the rant, I don't appreciate, need or deserve the lecture.
  23. As Secretary for the Federation of Dutchess County Fish & Game Clubs, I sent my letter of endorsement and accolades to the NYSDEC for a job well done on the 5 Year Deer Management Plan. I believe they can go further, such as expansion of the Crossbow either into the Archery Season or it's own season. Regarding Antler Restrictions.. I am all for it. Mainly, because it is good for the deer herd. You will also experience a better quality hunt. I have hunted QDM areas in Region 3 and just the experience is so much better. You get a higher quality hunter and lose the Brown is Down - Out House Channel Arm Chair quarterbacks in the process. Specifically, Ulster County I can remember sitting for hours and sometimes days for a small spike to come by! When AR regulations are implemented the first year is tough, but the quality of the deer goes up from there, thereafter. What I am AGAINST... is the mentality that if it is good for my Region or WMU than it will be good for the whole state. Home Rule needs to take precedent over mandatory statewide regulations (particularly where Antler Restrictions are concerned. What is good for Cattauragus County, may not be applicable or good for say Orange County).
