I was hoping it was a big coyote! :
-
I don't get a video, I just get the title page and a picture of a barn. What's wrong here?

For my Adirondack tracking show, I envision the hunter doing it alone with a miniature camera or two mounted somewhere capable of showing what the hunter sees, and recording what he hears. I think production quality is not as important as getting the task on film to show to an audience. It could look like a home movie and still be impressive if all of the hunt is captured.

Return to the internet and buy online when you find good prices and stock up. Then get an inexpensive reloading set and all the components you need to develop two good loads. One for deer and one for coyote. A man with one rifle, and his own loads, used all the time for such specific hunting, can't help but become very good at it.

I'd like to see a TV show of a guy in the Adirondacks, who picks out a good buck's track in 6" of snow, tracks it for 48 hours, sleeping in the woods for a night, and then shooting it in it's bed from 100 yards. This show should also be showing all the work required after the shot to get it home and make food out of it. If such a show existed, we would present to non-hunters the real physical endurance, skill, and determination required to actually trophy hunt on state land, like the majority of average American's have the only option of doing. I doubt anyone could view such reality on screen without deep respect and admiration for the hunter.

That's a good article 5.9, but it stopped short or mentioning people will now also have to worry about having an income. Even if people realize they need to live within their means now and start saving money, if the states tank, taking the stock market with them, and causing more foreclosures and layoffs, a lot of people will have no means to live within. I have a real fear for the future of America. We can survive I think, but not without going back to the lifestyles of the last great depression and pulling together as a country. I believe we will see many families living together and pooling incomes in order to have a roof over their head and food on the table. I also believe those of us who hunt and fish and know how to live off the land, while at the same time having some knowledge of modern technology, are going to be at a distinct advantage.

Merry Christmas! ;D

Blackradion. here's an option for you, go to www.gunbroker.com and search for rifles for sale in NY state. You will see at least a hundred used rifles fro sale by private sellers in NY. You may locate one within a few miles of your home too. The deals you can find on there are always far better than you will see at a dealer or any big store like Dick's. You can look at any caliber from .243 up to .30-06 if you want a deer/varmint combo rifle. You may even find a good price on another great round in an affordable rifle. The .260 Remington. Ever since the .308's introduction, it has been a favorite parent case for wild-cat cartridges, and the "6.5mm-08" has been around in custom rifles for decades. In 1997, due to Jim Carmichel's efforts, Remington commercialized the .308 case necked to 6.5 mm in the .260 Remington, intended as a flat-shooting, low-recoil short-action cartridge for medium game. The .260 Remington can be thought of as the American version of the 6.5x55 Swede, but it fits in a short action and can be loaded to 2.800 inches. The .260 Remington cartridge is gaining favor with many long-range shooters for the simple reason that it slings the long, slim, high-BC 6.5mm bullets at respectable velocity. It duplicates or beats the .300 Winchester Magnum's trajectory with less recoil than .308. Think of it as a .243 on steroids! It is just a good all around cartridge and perfect for a deer/coyote gun.

A lot of Texas ranchers have decided it's more profitable to raise a herd of whitetail than a herd of cattle. But it's the people who are willing to pay the money to shoot a B&C buck there that make it happen. There is no hunting skill involved with taking a B&C buck on one of those ranches. Just as there is no skill in playing slot machines in a casino. When luck shines on you, you win. This is why I feel a trophy whitetail mount these days requires an explanation attached to it as to where and how it was taken.

Welcome aboard Mike. And welcome to the wonderful world of hunting. Sounds like you have a couple of good people to hunt with already. Having a wife that likes to hunt is a blessing too!
-
Wait until you are given the gun on Christmas and thank your wife profusely. Then use it and keep your mouth shut about it forever. Nothing will break a woman's heart as bad as going all out on a gift and not getting the right appreciation for it. So it's not the exact rifle you wanted. Is she the exact wife you want? Then keep the rifle and be happy with it unless you want to find yourself suffering from now on every time you go hunting. Just a little advice from a man with experience in this area. ;D

I didn't think anyone used cabinets like that any more because they are so easy to break into. They don't provide any security at all. Perhaps you should be looking to buy a real gun safe?

Now this is a Christmas greeting!

One in the head, two in the chest! Then you know he's dead. -
Interesting? It's a disaster on the horizon and every state is in this situation. The decades of overspending and fiscal mismanagement are coming to a head. We are staring at the makings of another Great Depression my friends, one that America may never recover from. Washington will not be able to bail states out of this one, even if they wanted to, and the taxpayers don't want them to. If D.C. did bail the states out, they would just continue to spend recklessly and never solve the problem. When the states go bankrupt, they default on all of their loans, businesses they owe money to go belly up and the state bonds tank. That will cause stocks in general to dive like a falling rock. Sorry to bring this all to light here, but I'm becoming really surprised that Americans didn't know this was happening all along. It seems the electorate is more oblivious than I first thought.

Was the scope mounted on a rifle? Is it matte finish, gloss or silver? Is this the one that comes with the sunshade? $100 including shipping? Thanks.

Sounds like he's smart enough to hide well before sun up and stay hid until dark. He's learned how to stay alive.

I hunt alone often. I always have. In my younger days it was common. I don't fear a lot of danger when I hunt. I'm cautious when I hunt anyway and haven't reached the age where I feel my body might not be able to get me out of a jam yet. There are lots of advantages to hunting alone. But that should be the topic for a new thread.

Unless you will be doing a lot of long range goose shooting or hunting deer with buckshot, the 3" Mag will be fine. Get the Vinci.

Morning chuckle...oldie but goodie

The only sport I watch is Women's Outdoor Naked Jello Wrestling. I watch it very closely. But there isn't much to be said for it, at least while I'm watching it.
-
Enjoy it in good health for many years to come. ;D
-
What would you like to talk about? I like women and the outdoors, preferably both at the same time.

Welcome aboard.

Welcome to the forum! Where in the Catskills?

Every one of your questions has been answered already. I'm tired of repeating myself, especially since my efforts seem to fall on deaf ears. How about this? The laws are arbitrary, capricious and ineffective at preventing any type of unlawful activity. They serve one purpose, to make money for the state. That's my final attempt. Take it or leave it.
