Just indicates which way the wind is blowing in case of a gas leak. Leaks are about non-existent, but regulations require it. Just had a house blow up from a city supplied gas leak in NJ last week. More to worry about if you have gas in your home than from a fracking well. They have wind socks at every airport too. Nothing sinister about those though.

That's only one issue. One issue does not a "liberal" make. It is a total mindset of power and control that must be adopted to be a so called "liberal", which is what the thread was attempting to show. It seems these days, labels in politics mean the exact opposite of what you might think. I believe when enough information is gleaned by the uncommitted, "Liberal" is not a political ideology many will actually accept. It's not so much trying to change people's minds, as it is trying to provide info for people to think for themselves.

Buying ammo in Vermont

Fortunately, I have no reason to ever set foot in Connecticut, and hopefully never will. -
Buying ammo in Vermont
Mr VJP replied to grampy's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Is that a CT state law or just a policy of the stores there? -
You are making a very big assumption here. Speaking for yourself, and others that are convinced of their opinions, yes. But you have no idea who else has read those posts without a firm opinion and has gathered some useful information on the subject. There are hundreds of people who read these posts without ever replying to them.

Is it possible to see the results of this survey somewhere? After I took it, it went to a thank you page and that is all I can see.

The perfect North American pair
Mr VJP replied to Borngeechee's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Born, did you know there is a .270 WSM too! Uses the same .270 bullets you use now but with much higher velocity. Using a 130 Grain Barnes TSX bullet, it will do 3250 FPS. That bullet will retain about 95% of it's weight when recovered, but it will usually pass completely through what ever it hits. -

If you hand load the .325 WSM with 180 bullets, you can drop the velocity to duplicate a 180 grain .30-06 loading too. -

IMHO it is a great round for Elk and I prefer it to the .338 WM. It has never really caught on since it was introduced and ammo isn't real easy to come by. You can find ammo in big stores like Cabela's, but I find most of my .325 WSM ammo on line. The price has gone up a lot in the last few years. I figured it would so I stocked up when I got the rifle. I plan to reload the rounds now and have about 250 rounds to work with. You can get 180, 200 and 220 grain bullets for it in factory loads. -

If you already have the .270 and want something bigger without going for too much, consider the .325 WSM. It's actually an 8mm bullet but hits close to 3000fps with a 200 grain bullet. It can also shoot 220 grain bullets. It will do very close to what a .338 Win Mag will do but with a lot less felt recoil and uses a shorter action. I own one, and it will take brown bear, though I also own a .375 H&H for that job. -
Can't see any reason not to allow dove hunting. Can't see any reason to pay extra to hunt doves either. Most dove seasons open on Sept 1st and are great hunting activities in warm weather with a group. Lots of money is spent by hunters during dove season for breakfast, dinner, gas, shells, new guns, hunting clothes, decoys, bars afterwards and even leases on good fields. Dove hunting is perfect practice for wing shooters, serving as an early season tune up of your shooting skills. Hunters could kill half the doves in the state every year and their numbers would still be higher next year. They are also good to eat.

My buddy lived in NY just across the river from PA. He bought the NY Lifetime Hunt/Fish License about 20 years ago. He moved just across the river into PA after the SAFE Act passed and has a PA resident hunting license now but still hunts in NY with friends every Sunday.

I have a number of .308 rifles. Just different tools for different jobs. -

You could just get a 30-06 for all of your big game needs. With the variety of bullets available for it, you wouldn't need another rifle at all. -

I think the Ruger M77/22 Hornet is a rifle of great quality and accuracy. With the laminated stock and grey metal finish on the bull barrel, it's a winner as far as I'm concerned. I believe it wouldn't be too difficult to find a nice used one online somewhere.

Microstamping legislation

The Judge was a woman from California. That's all I needed to see. The Bill of Rights has been banned in that state for years. -
Microstamping legislation

They know it doesn't work. They see it as a way to ban handguns by around that pesky 2nd Amendment. Besides, did you think a California judge was going to rule against it? They are all bought and paid for by political powers in that nutty state anyway. -
Any weapon will kill within it's limitations. Arrows are used at close range and kill by causing blood loss. Often the animal goes quite far before dropping dead. A .308 or .270 will take Elk just fine if you know their limits. Other cartridges simply allow shots from greater distances. When fired from long distances, other rounds shoot flatter so less drop needs to be figured, and still have enough energy and velocity to penetrate deep enough to cause the trauma required to drop the animal before it travels too far. Some Eskimos have been know to hunt polar bear by putting sharp whale bones in a frozen ball of blubber and putting it out for a bear to eat. Once thawed, it punctures the bears stomach and eventually kills it. The Eskimo will track the bear for days until it drops. I'm sure they would rather have something in their arsenal that would be more effective.

One good thing is if you move out of NY State, you will still get the license mailed to you without cost. if you wanted to keep hunting in NY for life, you would save a lot considering the cost of a non-resident license.

Usually not until mid April when the snow isn't so deep and the turkey start getting into mating season.
