  1. Thanks for the words of wisdom ! I live on 40+ acres about 15 minutes away from work so I don't think the exercise & training part will be to much to bear. I know its going to be a work in progress and don't expect him to master working the field by next year, but I will be working with the pup and the boy daily. I have a friend who raises pheasants so I can introduce him to birds early and get him pointing consistently. During season I bird hunt 3-4 times a week so I have no lack of dedication =)
  2. looking for a bird dog for next season ... got clearance from the woman under the guise of " for the kid " =) anybody know somebody in or around NY , PA area who has a good reputation ?
  3. Does anybody know of a place where you can go shoot trap near Hyde Park without a membership to a gun club ? I just moved here, back in orange county I had a couple of choices, but I am not all that familiar with Dutchess.
  4. LOL I don't even have a Mathews , kid isn't getting one ! I was thinking 2 to 250 price point all in. Am I being reasonable ? great idea on the used gear, any place in dutchess/orange county that has a good selection ?
  5. 14 year old kid needs to get out in the woods instead of sitting in front of the idiot box. Seems to really like the idea of archery. I don't want to spend a ton of money on a bow for him as I dont know if it will stick. I also want something that can humanely put down a deer, in the case he does get into it. My PSE fireflight is to tough for him to pull back at 75 lbs. What say all you wise folk , is there a price performer out there I can go with ? What kind of money can I expect to spend ? The kid is big for his age so I think a full size bow is probably best.
  6. I know this is a weird question to ask in a NY based forum but you guys have been really helpful on other occasions , and someone just might know off the top of their head. So here is the deal , I am looking to run up to PA and do some boar hunting. I really don't want to bother with any of these " preserve " or guided hunt situations. So I'm hoping someone might know of some state land that is in need of Boar eradication ! anyways any word from the wise would be greatly appreciated ! Merry Christmas to you and yours !
  7. I have a H&R single barrel break action 20 gauge I would be willing to part with for 100 bucks. clean as a whistle, full choke , 3" receiver ....... great rabbit / pheasant gun. best way to get in contact with me is via email [email protected]

  9. I have a H&R single barrel break action 20 gauge I would be willing to part with. clean as a whistle, full choke , 3" receiver ....... great rabbit / pheasant gun.
  10. You sir are the ultimate woodchuck warrior ! NICE SHOT !
  11. I am particularly fond of the C & R military guns especially for target practice. A Mosin Nagant 91/30 will cost you around a hundred bucks and is good out to 1000 yards. Ammo is dirt cheap around 90 bucks for 440 rounds, and you can really drive tacks with just a trigger job. I also like the swedish mauser for its light recoil and legendary accuracy.
  12. Bill, There is actually one this sunday Sundays • Registration 7 AM – Noon April 10 May 15 August 28 October 2 Traditional Archery (only) 3-D shoot September 5th (Labor Day) Registration - 7 AM – Noon Here is the Schedule for the Tri-County Archers http://www.waldensportsmensclub.org/Tri-County_Archers_3D_2011_schedule.pdf
  13. best thing you can do for that gun is pick yourself up some of the lever evolution rounds by Hornady. They make it a totally different beast. Great gun.
  14. I am quite fond of the Yugo's they have a really nice action, and you can still get a hold of them cheap, unlike my beloved swedish mausers
  15. I concur fully , there are so many variables with muzzleloaders , ammo , powder it just make sense to put your time in at the range.
  16. why not just get a fat wrench (35 bucks) , a bore sighter (20 bucks) , spend an hour at the range , then never pay for scope mounting again. That is what I did , and it sure has paid off over the last few years.
  17. http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2010/12/3_barrel_hand_cannon_fired_after_50.html These guys have some set on them to try this thing out ! I think this might be where the term "Boom Stick" came from
  18. I haven't looked at this post in a while, because I was out hunting, and to be honest I'm kind of shocked that people think its ok to give up any right no matter how small. Alot of people keep saying its a privileged to fly, that's not the point. I do not care what it is. If its in the greatest country in the world, the United States of America my Constitutional Rights apply to it. Next thing you know the cops don't need exigency to break into your house, because you just might have a terrorist donut factory in your kitchen. You want to stop terrorist ? Allow people who have a legal right to carry , that where born in this country, walk on the plane a 38 with wad cutters so it wont go through the hull, strategically place them on the plane next to anyone with a turban on. I can gaurantee there would be no need for my wife or daughter to have to choose between getting photographed naked by harmful radiation, or being groped. Its not about me, its about the generation after me, and the one after that, which is slowly digressing into 1984.
  19. Here is an interesting read by Penn from Penn & Teller http://www.pennandteller.com/03/coolstuff/penniphile/roadpennfederalvip.html

    TSA

What does everyone think of the TSA and all the new regulations about them either seeing your junk or feeling it up ? I heard a radio show this morning, telling people just to shrug it off. I call shenanigans. Your 4th amendment right is every bit as important as the rest of them, and next these commie bastards are going to shave away at the 2nd amendment until there is nothing left. Ok thats the end of my rant, I will be calmer after gun season opens up for me
  21. to transfer your pistol permit to another county, first check with the new county for any restrictions they may have, then go to the County Clerk’s Office requesting your file be transferred to the new county of residence. That should get you pointed in the right direction
  22. 30-30's are great, with the leverevolution rounds Im accurate to way farther than I would ever be able to shoot in NY.
  23. http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/centerfire/model-seven/model-seven-cdl.aspx I have one , its a tack driver.
  24. I have no problem shipping to a C&R , to be honest I would have to look up the cost entailed. I will private msg you once I have a definitive answer. I will also take some high quality pictures to send you.
