I have a 20" barrel.Would that put me in the 70k+ range? Seems dangerous. What's my barrel time look like for a 20"?
-
According to this chart, my 20" barrel should have these nodes when the bullet leaves these barrel times. If I did my load development correctly, I'm at a charge of IMR 4350 with 43.6 grs. Hopefully, that puts me in one of those nodes. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems

Yes, .243 Win. COAL is 2.590", 0.01 off lands. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems

The brass I used to produce the last group measured 2.033" and weighed 174.0gr with spent primer. 228.5 gr with water. This is R-P Brass, unsized. Unfortunately, I ran the Herter's(early pressure signs) through the die when I got home after the range. MV is 3181 FPS from a 85gr Sierra GK HPBT. My local shop 45 mins away stocked a few hundred pounds of powder, so I'll be picking some up this weekend. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems

Utilizing OBT and QL, one could probably work up to max pressure, and go straight into the optimal load. Chronograph and groups would just be for verification purposes. Would save quite a bit on components, barrel life, and range time. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems

He can skirt the topic of lead ban all he wants, but his true intentions are a ban to save the birds. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems

If the high velocity is the issue, how come you don't advocate that we go back to black powder and slower velocities? How come you don't advocate hunters not shoot these lightning speed rifles and calibers? You can easily achieve the same by educating hunters the importance of using the proper LEAD bullet at closer ranges, but you choose not to. Instead, you choose to support the idea that banning lead is a good thing for the sport. No, it'll only serve to save a few birds, something you are passionate about, but would easily sacrifice the rest of the hunting community for. What you are doing is chipping away at the very fibers of hunting and fishing. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems

How about barrel time? Hopefully will have time to dig out the reloading station tonight. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems

Was doing some reading as I couldn't sleep. http://www.the-long-family.com/OBT_paper.htm OBT, QuickLoad, and OCW, seating depth. Interesting stuff. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems

Pure lead bullets had issues with high velocity, so they started putting copper alloy jackets on them. This allowed the bullets to travel faster, hotter, down the bore. A FMJ is not much different in terms of internal and external ballistics than most of the solid copper bullets. But a solid copper core requires a lot more energy to open up vs a lead core bullet, making them unethical at long distances. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems

Lead has better performance at longer distances. Lead also need less velocity to do the same at shorter distances. Your research may vary. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems

You're right. I'm not a fan of the poor. No one should be poor. There shouldn't be any poverty, but there is. I grew up poor, but I've never had to take handouts or felt the need to eat wild game shot by others. We used our two hands, two feet, and fed ourselves anyway we could. So you'll have to excuse me when I have zero compassion for those who beg for food, and then blame the hunters providing the food for having lead in it. It's clear that the issue is not the hunter and the bullet he chooses to use, but the practices used to distribute the tainted meat. But you seem to think otherwise and want to restrict hunters, when we as a community already face many restrictions. It's clear where you stand in terms of conservation as a whole. Synthetic seems to be the way to go. Organics will likely turn acidic over time and eat away at the parts. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems

Its a good thing they have these labels then huh? I mean, those poor people, being forced to ingest lead laced meat. I mean, they have so many other choices you know? Maybe we should only give them the back straps that are generally free of any tainted lead, and throw the rest away, because you know, they have a lot more options. Heck, they can simply refuse the tainted meat and go to the 5 star restaurant down the block in their hood and eat good, why bother with the chance by lowering themselves to... well, the poor. They have choices. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems

You use the Waze app to locate the person in distress? Do you ask them over the phone what his username is or something? Or is it something like this: Operator: Hey, do you use Waze? Distressed caller: Yes, why? Operator: Text me your location from Waze! [emoji1] X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems

It's what happens when you shoot animals at 50 yards out of a high velocity rifle shooting soft points. Even then, you can't blame the hunter when it's the butcher's job to clean up the meat for consumption. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems

I would think a dry spray-on lube like they use in automotive would work and leave no scent. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems

So lead was found in donated meat, where the butchers probably didn't pay much attention to what meat goes where. This article is also 9 years old. Has there been anymore cases of this? So if we have an oil spill, are we to permanently stop the importation or drilling of oil? No, you take precautions to prevent oil spills, because oil is a basic everyday necessity. Ask hunters and shooters to give up their lead, and you're taking a huge risk of ending the sport all together. I process my own meat, cut away areas of suspect, and consume the rest. I don't worry about what little lead, if any, are in my meat that I shot. I'll probably die from a million other things before lead is a factor. Do you eat Salmon? How about Striped Bass, Tuna, Swordfish, Bluefish, Seabass? How about clams? Might want to look into the contaminants in those food too. It could very well be THE cut up meat that was intended to be discarded, but was recovered to support an agenda. Nah, that could never happen.... X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems
