    Deer Search

G-man Im pretty sure thats against the law but I agree me and my bro have a dog that would def find blood and I wouldnt hesitate to use it. I called deer search once and since their was a possibility the deer crossed on to utilty company property and they thought it was a shoulder hit they didn't come. Just like a previous story I was in a tree about a 100 yrds from my bro saw his shot and the deer ran passed me where I saw his wound the only reason I didnt shoot it to was it looked fatal and it would have been a running bow shot. Never found the deer and due to the chance of crossing property lines with no permision they wouldnt do it.
  4. Now that deer season is wrapping up for me with only on scheduled shotgun hunt on L.I. coming up and maybe a day or two on standby if I'm lucky. Time to start shed-hunting, scouting, and stand prep for next year. I'm curious who is experimenting with Google Earth/GPS/Smart Phones etc... For tracking and marking deer sign, stand locations, trails, etc.. And what equipment and programs they are using. I have been using Google Earth and over-laying topo maps from mytopo.com, also outlining the property boundries, highlighting exsisting trails, trails used by me, and keeping a hunting log with a placemark for every place Ive taken a stand plus documenting (date/day/wind direction/moon phase/time of hunt/temp/what I saw). I have been doing this on public land that I hunt to learn it the best that I can, not on the property I own b/c that I know that like the back of my hand already. I am just trying to find other members doing similar things to compare how and what we are doing just to try to learn more about this new style of high tech scouting from each other.
  5. Im hunting on the 11th but if I have an empty day was going to tru standby but I guess so is everyone else.
  6. Has anyone been down there trying to hunt stand-by yet? I wonder whatthe availibilty is.
  7. Sold my boat when my fishing buddies dispersed and went in with my bro and uncle on land and 2 years, 3 nice bucks, a 1st bear with a bow, and 2 toms later it was an awesome desicion. Plus Ive spent a few days in a tree with the wife she loved it and I have spots for the little guys picked out already and they like doing tree stand work.
  8. Is there? And if there are where are the Region 1 DEC meetings?
  9. Ive seen some decent deer and the deer I saw this summer that just passed was jaw dropping.
  10. There almost def. someone who controls the population I live not far from Sunken Meadow and I hear rumors all the time of the DEC having sharp shooters thin the heard. Again I said rumors but I beleive it. Between Sunken Meadow, Nissequage River, and the old state hospital in Kings Park there are some big old deer I've seen them. It is a shame that they dont allow hunting there have been more and more car/deer accidents and they keep putting up signs like that helps.
  11. Went out today bumped at 50yds. what looked like a young buck who shed already or a spike that I couldn't make out threw the brush bc the body was bigger then any doe and it was alone. Then heard on doe screech when she circled behind and caught my scent downwind but saw nothing. Another great season in the books! Now time to dust off the shotgun.
