Im going to do that this off season right now im just filling the end of the season with some blind trips to feel the place out. Also doing a lot of computer scouting google earth, topo maps, etc.... How is it during late october - mid to late november jam packed? I can hunt alot of weekdays so that works in my favor. Do you have any tick problems during the spring, summer, etc...

County properties exclusivly why not some DEC lands also?

I picked Manorville althought a little further by the map, google earth and my topos it looked easier to navigate on foot once there and going in blind that is what I needed. I saw three groups of 3 does and one lone deer that I couldnt see its head due to cover in just a random spot that i picked in the dark. Ive never been there before and went for sunup (my only schedule option). I was pleasntly suprised with my little exploration I did after my sit. I kicked up a few more deer walking around also. Is that true you can bring a non-resident I have an uncle Id like to get out there. Also I was the first guy there and when I left there was two other cars and it was Dec 4th if it was Nov 4th I would think it would be a full house and manditory you get there early evening sits are probably not an option.

I actually shot at a deer last opening day weekend was almost positive I missed looked for blood none. kicked myself for taking a stupid shot, looked for the deer for a while nothing, this opening day while switching stands i took a way I never go on my property but i didnt want to disturb a bedding area and right in a thick swamp edge 20 feet after i called off the search there was my deer from last year. full skull with antlers. No rodents for a whole year?

going out for a sat 12/4 morning hunt question is alittle late but will check before i go suffolk county resident properties drive the extra 15 mins. to manorville or hunt yaphank?

He didnt really say you can hunt he said in his opinon as long as the rules are followed he feels you should be able to which leds me to think he wouldnt jam you up but that was his opinon. and it is privatly owned but not residential.
-
spoke to region 1 officer today on the phone and his opion was deer management that as long as your following hunting rule distances etc... he thinks you should be able to hunt it so my opinon is give it a try and if you get kicked out deal with it then if you score big first all the better. not private property of course but town county and state land.

I meet a guy yesterday that turned me on to spot that he hunts. Is it legal to hunt Suffolk County property if you are a suffolk resident as long as you follow all other distance regulations ex. Dwellings, no shooting over roads, etc...?

I hope the activity is picking up I am hunting tomorow in Rockland and Sun-Mon Sullivan. But I think the prediction might be right because in late October my uncle had bucks pushing does a little in Rockland and answering rattleing and doe bleats also that same time I saw a small six try to mount and harass a single doe in a group not caring about the other 3 at all so she might have been an older one that came into heat early. That same trip I passed a 7 that was grunting and trying to fight a spike. The next trip NOTHING (the lull D & DH spoke of) but a spike. Hopefully tomorow I have a story this is where I tagged a nice 8 last year on 11/7.

I think the second full moon (rutting moon) fell on 10/22 or somewhere in that area because the first full moon was on the fall equinox this year. I thought what Charlie Alsheimer from Deer and Deer Hunting said was a that few would come into heat on that October moon triggering a "mini rut" but it would fizzle out and the rest would come into heat on the next moon which is coming up in November setting off the main rutting activity. Which is what I am hoping for.

I hunt Sullivan County and my uncle hunts Rockland as well as Sullivan. I am home now between trips my last trip up ended this Tues. and I have been seeing deer with "trailing" going on but no real nose to the ground out of control chasing I am not hunting again until Friday in Rockland then Sun-Tues back in Sullivan I hope I am not missing the explosion has anyone been seeing this full blown activity. Or are my experiences the same everyones been having.

Here's the back ground. Last Weds. at 5 my bro shot a real nice 8 threw the gut and out one lung it fell, ran 10 yrds, fell, ran 10 yrds, then laid behind a bush and stayed down we waited and hour or a little more then walked toward the bush when we got there he was alive and looking at us so he gave him another arrow in the lung area he got up and ran into a huge thick swamp. We gave him another half hour and then went after him found heavy blood in one area on a little dry island type thing but no deer and we had dead flashlights. Decided to stay another night to look in the a.m. and woke up to rain couldn't find the blood spot or any deer circled the swamp and zigzaged thru it as much as you can a rising swamp in heavy rain no deer. So here's the question. Going back to that post about bears eating down deer I have ALOT of bear on my property. If one found it do you think it would eat it in 1ft of water? Drag it to a small dry spot in the side the swamp nearby? or Drag it a good distance to the outskirts for dry land? We are going back up to hunt on Mon./Tues. should he waste limitied time on stand and circle the swamp again in hopes something dragged it out? Or is does it seem like a waste of time? At this point it would be strictly a rack recovery but a well used tag none the less. i told him to hunt the stand and glass the swamp which you can do and note any unusual crow activity. Thanks for any input or experiences. Sorry for such a long post.

I agree with leaving it I always have more pics as time goes on when I leave it out. I also had a buck infront of my cam during a hunt this season the flash went off I almost jumped out of my stand but it had no effect on his behavior.

Video from yesterday, 4ptr responding to my bleat
cbx46 replied to burmjohn's topic in Hunting Related Pictures
Thats why I bought a doe decoy this year that 8 might have come in for a look with a bleat decoy combo. add a lil scent and you got the whole package. I blow threw the single hole in the bottom of the can it adds alot of volume and distance to the call. -
You got to find the bedding area and thrail he is coming in from and get about an hour closer without bumping him.
-
well one came out atleast
-
hopefully the pics come out this time.

I made these mock scrapes by kicking some leave out from under alicking branch on a well used trail near my stand and peeing in it my self. These pics are from from 8 days after I made them. Not a leaf in them, moist ground with hoof prints. I put my cam on the scrape instead of the trail so well see on weds whats up.
-
I have a nice 8 that just poped up last week, never before seen.
-
8 days after I made my mockscrapes on opening weekend sunday I checked them monday still not a leaf huge prints and some damp soil looks like they took to it.
