  5. Well here I am rain stopped with sunrise no its blue skies I turned around on my way here then said screw it and turned around again I took a chance with the rain the spot I wanted to get to was to far of a walk so I tried a nice trail crossing I found in the summer a little closer to the car in case I lost my gamble seen some nice blue jay and the rain def brings out the skeeters now let's see some deer.
  6. Thats a big bear. Mine was from 3k. According to the DEC website 3k has the most bear harvests per 100 sq miles in the whole state. I beleive followed by 3c. I know bear action is on the rise everywhere.
  7. Noone in my spot today but me, I will head out again for a morning hunt before my sons football game.
  8. What time is shooting light? Not the DEC sunrise time, actual real shooting light?

  11. Remember to also watch the doe also not just the bucks eyes and if you have the pin set on the bucks boilerroom and the doe spooks don't turn to look at her take the shot bc when you look back at the buck it will be gone.
  12. Watched some deer last night around the block from my home here on L.I. 4 does, and a bachelor group I've seen all sumer 4,6,and an 8 the giant 10+ wasn't there. The bucks were still traveling in a group but when I pulled up the 2 younger were sparring with each other! I have a feeling that friendship will be ending soon. Very exciting.

    coming soon.

Looks like I might have to clean and air my rain gear also. But they are calling for a drop to the 60's its no 30's which I love but I've never hunted Oct1st so I'm pumped either way.
  14. I would bring a climber and get up a tree.
  15. I would move it a little further along their trail If you were into that sort of thing

    Elk in 3H

I was told even a mountain lion since they don't exists and no season you can't shoot I assume same for elk
  17. Homemade wooden stands nailed to the tree without a doubt would be ruled illegal.
  18. It's also against the law to build permanent stands on public land so I was going to make up for me breaking the law by leaving behind my camera by removing those illegal stands

    Wertheim hunt

I never filled out the paper work Im not into the earn a buck thing if they want to keep deer numbers down on LI they should stop making hunters jump thru hoops and just let us hunt.
  21. I ownland upstate but shooting out on LI after one of the kids footall games or a half day of work is alot easier then always going upstate.
  22. Everyone has def had that moment when you sat all day didnt pay complete attention on your walk and on your way out its pitch black and you look around for a min. and start second guessing where you are headed. Or a snowfall blankets the area etc... That is why carry a back up to your brain compass, gps, and a back for your back up. i think you would be suprised how you say walk a mile and ahalf in one direction and you hit a road but add a very slight curve to your trail, walk around a blow down etc and you are making a gigantic circle.
  23. Long Island has some patches of woods just as big as the ones you guys in westch/put/dutch hunt, most people who do get lost in the woods are found a few hundred yards from road/truck etc... They say one of the most important things to do is make sure someone knows where you are going, and when you will be back. If you get lost stay still and build a shelter, because the further you walk when lost the further you will be from where the people who know where you went, know where to look for you.
