  1. Mostly Smallmouth Bass, Rock Bass, Panfish, Pickeral, some Trout and an occassional Pike. You will also find Eels if you want them. This time of year they are fishing for Shad too, as they are running up the river now.
  2. I don't understand how a game animal can be hunted in the majority of states, and not hunted in another state for political reasons. How can anyone justify hunting the dozens of game species we are allowed to take in NY, and decide a dove should not be on the list of game animals? What's so special about a dove?
  3. I'm in total agreement Doc. There are also a lot of zealous Game Wardens out there that are looking to bust every hunter they run into for something. Give them a chance and they can come up with a fine for any hunter in the field if they decide you should be fined, for whatever reason. A lot of folks don't like Ted, and that is exactly why they go after him with this stuff. They want to shut him up. What I have to wonder is, why is what he says such a threat to them and what is it they are trying to do that he is against?
  4. I wouldn't care if it were being played with Monopoly money, but it's being played with real money, so I have to care.
  5. Our government was not designed to inject itself into the free enterprise system at all. It was a mistake for people in the past to ask the government to get involved in the free market. It is a mistake to ask it to get more and more involved now. The reason US Healthcare is currently screwed up is because the government got involved in regulating healthcare in the first place.
  6. Auto insurance is mandated, but more people today are driving without it than ever before. Why? Because the price went way up when it was mandated. Take away the industry's need to offer a competitively priced product and you get higher rates. And don't forget, you now also pay etxra for "uninsured motorist" coverage. Why do you need uninsured motorist coverage if the law says it's mandatory every driver has it?
  7. Someone posted this stuff is getting the anti Obama/anti government folks all riled up again. Ever stop to think maybe it's the government's attacks on American rights enumerated in the Bill of Rights and protected by the Constitution that makes them anti's in the first place? It is very hard to debate against the statement, "The Government Is Not Your Friend."
  8. Looks like some people are more concerned with bashing Ted than objecting to laws that should never have been passed. I was reading an article in a hunting magazine not long ago that was filled with hunting laws from all over the country that are so dumb or miniscule, they catch people off guard all the time. These laws have nothing to do with safety or conservation. They have everything to do with control of hunting by the states. The point of the article was, laws are being passed to heavily regulate every minor detail of hunting, so a hunter will either need to have a lawyer advising him in the field, or give up hunting altogether to avoid being fined. If you want to protest something, protest that.
  9. Insect repellent will help keep them off ya.
  10. I think that is a very old poll. Holder also shows his ignorance of the Constituion and recent Supreme Court rulings by assuming he is correct with that statement.
  11. The Leftists used to burn George W. Bush in effigy and call for his death. I don't remember the SS ever investigating any of them. I guess a Republican Administration is smart enough to know a real threat when it sees it. This administration is worried about Ted, but not concerned about terrorists living in America, illegals crossing the border and committing murder or the New Black Panther Party vowing to start killing white people. Damn they dumb!
  12. To get to the other side of the river you have to cross the Rt 209 bridge out of Port Jervis into Matamoras, Pa. Turn right on the first road on the other side of the bridge and you have a beautiful 5 mile ride up the river to Millrift, PA. It's a real nice scenic ride on a small 25 mph 2 lane road. You can even keep going after that. The road goes over the PA mountain heading south and winds up back on Rt 209 south of Matamoras. Turning left there will take you back to the Port Jervis bridge. It's a big circle about 25 miles long with some real nice views.
  13. That's Hawk's Nest, high above the river north of Port Jervis. It's actually in Sparrowbush, NY. Follow that highway north from there and you will have a nice ride up the river with some beautiful scenery. If you stand in that spot in the picture looking across the river and left towards the RR bridge that's downstream, the houses on the Pennsylvania side are owned by relatives on my mother's side. Aunts, Uncles and cousins that I visit quite often. That's Milrift, PA. Population only about 100.
  14. Where does one put his hand on the forearm? The rails wouldn't be very comfortable to hang onto. I don't think this levergun has hit the mark as far as whatever target market they were shooting for. Lawmen and military folks used levers years ago but have since moved on to pumps and semis. I just don't see a market for this thing.
  15. Might not be in your budget, but a Kimber 84M in .243 is a sweet deer rifle. For about $900, it has no equal IMHO.
  16. How about we just make people who don't have healthcare pay for their medical expenses when they get them? They may never have any money, but they will always owe the money to the Fed if they ever get any. Even if the Fed only takes a piece of what they have every year, they will at least know healthcare is not "Free". You need it, you will pay for it, for the rest of you life, if that's what it takes. Letting people off scott free all the time is what makes people think they don't need to have healthcare.
  17. Many people have already lost their current health insurance plan, and more will follow. As Obamacare pushes up insurance costs, many companies have been forced to stop providing health insurance to their employees for survival reasons. The costs would kill their competitive edge and put them out of business. This is the real plan under Obamacare, to go to a single payor system, the government. And they will dictate how, when and where you get health care.
  18. Make no mistake, if the government funds something, it runs it.
  19. I've had an 835 for 25 years now. Had to have one when they first came out. Got the camo model with synthetic stock. The gun has seen many days in the field for turkey and geese and it really takes them out with the 3.5" loads. It shoots 3.5" buckhot real well with the modified choke, but never took it deer hunting. I love the back bored barrel too. One thing I did, because I don't walk a lot with it, was add weight to the butt stock to help with the recoil. The stock on mine is hollow, so I took off the recoil pad and filled it with a bunch of pennies. Added enough so they packed tight and don't make noise. Figured lead shot would be too heavy. The pennies are just right. Really helps to reduced the felt recoil a lot. I'd say I improved the gun for just pennies, literally.
  20. Depends on what their interests are Virgil. If they are selfish and destructive to the rest of the country, thats bad. If their interests are to make America better, that's good. The interest of Govt workers is getting more money, which raise taxes, yet provides no improvement in services, in return for the money. Thats bad.
  21. I'll be glad when the Supreme Court finally rules on Obamacare. That will put an end to all of this bickering once and for all. Personally, I believe the court will bitch slap Obamacare so hard Ted Kennedy will feel it in his grave.
  22. The emerging tragedy is our increased willingness to use the coercive powers of government, in the name of health or some other ruse, to forcibly impose our preferences upon others. How far are you willing to let the government go? How much control of people's private lives are you willing to condone? How much of your annual earnings are you willing to fork over to a government that grows bigger and bigger every year? The answers to those questions indicates your desire for freedom vs dependency. Personally, I prefer to keep the government out of my life as much as possible. I don't need a nanny, a 2nd mother, or any Federal authority making all of my choices for me.
  23. I wish the country were full of people like Early. I could quit my job, go on welfare, get food stamps, a free apartment, medical and dental and spend all of my time hunting and fishing. Of course, so would most of the population, so guys like Early would run out of money fast, which means the system is unsustainable. Darn, it sounded like a plan while I was thinking progressively. Just proves one can progessively make things worse too.
  24. Early, without people who care about what's best for the country, rather than what makes you feel good, this society would be doomed. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
