1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_and_recapture Now this is interesting bathroom reading. Gotta go someone is knocking down the bathroom door :-*
2. Lets take this one step further: ??? 1-) You want to increase the buck to doe ratio - Kill more does! 2-) You want to increase the age of bucks - Issue a finite number of buck tags (those who do not get a buck tag get a doe tag) 3-) You want to improve the age diversity among the buck herd - Have a slot limit for bucks per each DMU Obviously, such a scenario would not go over well, but it would certainly eliminate the need for AR in so much there would much fewer hunters killing deer.

6. The revenue realized from the sale of the Lifetime license sales represent a short time monetary gain. Once those funds are expended, the monies from future license sales will not be sufficient to cover operating costs.
7. Ken Moran That rifle you use for hunting maybe la beled an assault rifle if a New York bill is passed. Assembly Bill 1479, introduced by Democrat Linda Rosenthal, changes the state's definition of "assault weapon." The new definition would classify firearms commonly used for hunting, such as semi-automatic shotguns that have a thumbhole stock or a pistol grip, as assault weapons. Currently, possession of assault weapons in the state is generally prohibited. Even more dangerous to sportsmen and gun owners, the bill gives the Superintendent of State Police the authority to regulate and classify additional firearms as "assault weapons" simply by finding that a firearm feature or modification is "particularly suitable for military and not sporting purposes." The Superintendent also can designate specific firearms by make and model to be considered assault weapons. Ultimately, the bill gives the Superintendent vast powers to determine which firearms citizens can and cannot own. "This bill is taking an already extreme set of gun laws and making them worse. It outlaws many popular firearms that are commonly used for hunting and gives immense power to the State Police to restrict law-abiding gun owners even further," said Evan Heusinkveld, director of state services for the U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance. "Sportsmen, gun owners, and collectors alike need to call their state assemblyperson and senator today to express their opposition to this dangerous bill." Though AB 1479 does include an exemption that allows citizens to keep newly declared "assault weapons" that are possessed before July 1, 2012, the exemption does little to ease the concerns of sportsmen. The bill in turn requires those firearms that are "grandfathered in" to be rendered inoperable or registered with the state. Even after proper registration, the bill only allows those firearms to be used at a licensed gun range and not while hunting. 8. I got news for you, things are about to get worse. See Ken Moran's article in today's NY POST,page 59 or refer to Assembly Bill 1479 introduced by DEMOCRAT Linda Rosenthal.
9. Me too, are we guaranteed that we will not be required to pay more for that license?
10. This AR argument will seemingly never go away. Perhaps, the DEC should hire Dr. Gary Alt!
11. You are may be correct Doc, but the state was in such a shambles financially (you don't need a weatherman to tell which way the wind is blowing) prior to the election. In any event Cuomo has his hands full with the NY State Legislature and Silver's cronies. Hard and unpopular decisions will be made by the governor. Our problem lies with our corrupt legislators who we (who voted) placed in office!
12. I may have missed the posting of the plan - at 80 pages it's possible. Can you point to it again? Thanks Someone deleted the plan ???
13. By yourself ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ?
14. Considering that the State is on the verge of bankruptcy, NY hunters may well represent an underutilized stream of revenue for the state to finance the NYSDEC. Lets hear what you have to say.
15. Why is the hunting so poor in PA?
16. As you know many times seeing is believing Geno when it comes to predicting weather down here on Long Island. Tuesday, the storm track,100 miles east or west of LI makes all the difference. I guess Monday night we will know!
17. Just wondering how old you are? the fact that you use age 40 as the cutoff point makes no sense.. and I can name a ton of guys I know that are over 40 that shoot down your theory. It's nothing more than an excuse to bitch. I'll even go farther and tell you that I know out of shape, overwieght guys that hut the adirondacks and get back into the wood a long way from their truck and still find a way to get their deer out.. They don't use their age or their condition as an excuse to find a good place to hunt Here again I guess its just a matter of how badly you want a good hunting experience 40+ is the published average age of the NY Hunter. You could look it up.
18. "and yes I am an authority on the plan..." Lets see your credentials! Are you published? Who has recognized you as such an authority? Have any of your peers (sic) referenced in their published scholarly works referenced you? Until then, I cannot take you seriously. Your focus is on one aspect of deer management AR and does not account for the cause and effect AR has on overall deer management. The DEC's methods of Deer management is the best we have with the funds available to them. Take their advice and voluntarily practice AR. It would be best for all concerns. Take the "Einstein" comment as a compliment!
19. Whats the plan? You consider yourself an authority on how to improve the age struck of the buck population, now lets hear the rest Einstein on how you propose to manage the overall deer population within the state!
20. Okay, balance the age structure of of the buck population. How many does need to be killed to balance the overall deer population for a given area? How you you determine the optimum deer population for a given area in relation to the carrying capacity of the habitat? Statewide AR compromises the DEC's ability to control deer populations. Their best solution and most cost effective method based upon available funds is continue with the status quo. With AR, other factors concerning deer management need to be addressed. Their is a price to pay for AR. Please share your thoughts!
21. Jim is an exception. You cannot turn back the clock, age and ones phyical condition go hand in hand.
22.

Annie Hall, Get Your Gun - NYTimes.com

So many people in NY have been brainwashed by the media; in other parts of the country, there is far less violence and far more guns owned. So much of it has to do with people becoming comfortable handling guns from an early age. ... “ I may be cheap, but boiling deer heads on the stove? Nope. No way. ” — DR;

cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/12/02/a-guide-to-city-g...
