Its not only yuppies that such operations cater to. They provide an equal opportunity to anyone who is willing to pay for such a chance to easily kill a deer.

Do you wear Orange? If so why? If not Why not? :)

I have to admit that the motivation is likely the same for both, isn't it? At least that's how it seems to me. The methods may differ, and the results may differ, but the motivation behind each activity probably is essentially the same. Yes I know the food plots carry the cover story that they are good for the benefit of all other kinds of wildlife, but I seriously question whether very many would put in the money and effort if the plots had no attraction to draw and hold deer for hunting purposes just like baiting. I know that thought probably is not going to be the most popular with those here that are involved in food plotting, but I wouldn't be very honest if I said it looked any other way to me. I definitely could be wrong, but I have never seen nor read anything yet that would make me think so. Doc it is the same... just some wont admit to that. hard work or hard earned money spent or not, same motive / intentions... i can see if they are destination food plots and not being hunted but almost ALL plots are intended to be hunted. And also, in my eyes it still is considered "feeding"... Smeone get a rope please! LOL

Unfortunately, what you speak of is a foregone conclusion. The opportunity to kill a book deer has become a drug to some who are willing to pay for the such an opportunity.

I can easily agree with! -
Deer drives on State Land where I hunt are usually not organized events. For the most part they are the result of hunters who are both impatient and cold. These hunters constitute the "one and done guys" and they benefit the hunter who is is willing to patiently remain at their stand.
-
QDM, I am all for it! God bless you guys who implement it for it is a win-win program for all !
-
I have used them also, whether or not they work I cannot be sure. What I do know is if the wind is not in your favor the deer will smell you no matter what precautions you take.
-
More power to the private concerns that wish to practice QDM! They can voluntarily practice or enforce AR in conjunction with their QDM programs. For those who hunt State Lands, it should always be matter of choice as to what deer to legally kill.

sunday hunting restriction in Western NY

You are welcome. -
Its population control. What do think would happen if AR was implemented statewide? Be careful what you wish for!
-
The wort case scenario may possibly be an issuance of an inordinate number of DMP's to control the deer population in certain DMU's to offset the loss of hunters. It may work in select DMU's but out here in Suffolk County and in urbanized areas where deer are overabundant it is a dismal failure.

We have one of the shortest bow seasons in the country. The DEC depends upon gun hunters to kill the overwhelming majority of the deer to fulfill their management purposes. I would be in favor of opening up the archery season a week earlier, but would it make that much of difference. Perhaps, it may be considered as a response to fewer hunters afield, but I think crossbows would be legalized first to account for any shortfalls in the deer kill goals.
-
I also agree, one and done unless you possess a DMP.
-
I used to work for a Welding and Heating company, Their was no such thing as Hunting Season, it was heating Season and getting time off to go hunting was very difficult.
-
I did not apply for a DMP this year, I figure I will be able to kill a doe during the ML season or one of my one day and done buddies will transfer to me his permit for a share of the venison. I am still pissed off that the DEC eliminated the free permit application with the purchase of a Sportsman's license.

Hunting State Land on opening day of gun season for the past several years, it never fails to see guys start driving deer by 9am. As I hunt from a ground blind which is clearing marked with blaze orange; these one day and done guys serve a useful purpose in moving deer. For the past several years I was able to fill my tag within twenty or thirty minutes of them passing by. Its magic time. Thanks.

The record shows that Oregon's hunters can be trusted to make decisions about hunter orange that best fit their personal circumstances. Even in this era of ever-expanding government mandates, the decision to wear hunter orange should be voluntary and left up to the individual. Unfortunately, the Commission chose a mandate although the evidence presented is faulty and shows no increase in safety. The last paragraph constitutes the author's opinion. I guess he perhaps would reconsider his last sentence if there was an increase in hunter shootings and fatalities. So then, lets ban B/O and see what happens. Sounds like a great idea(sic).

I always stick it out all day. As my hunting time afield is limited, I try to take full advantage of the opportunity.
