  1. I always keep meaning to go up there but something always comes up. Let us know how you make out.
  2. If you like possums come down to NYC. The population of possums is out of control. A while back some bright ass thought that introducing them in the 5 boroughs would control the rat population.
  3. I always found fishing for blackfish was better on the North Shore or out east from Greenpoint and Montauk.
  4. There is no doubt that raptors in conjunction with loss of habitat have impacted populations of small game throughout New York State.
  5. I can just hear all the gunhunters complaining about all the bowhunters who do not gun hunt using a crossbow during the gun season. LOL
  6. Buy bees wax and rub it into the boots to waterproof them. Silicone sprays and treatments applied to leather do not last and degrade the leather over time.
  7. Compressed air over 30 psi is potentially dangerous. I would strongly recommend using eye protection. I for one liked the way they pull the hide off a strung up deer with a strong rope/chain connected to a pick up truck.
  8. The majority of AR proponents are clueless when it comes to aging deer!
  9. Several years back, I belonged to a hunting camp in Schoharie County and a fellow hunter intentionally shot a bear (at that time time bear hunting was prohibited). He falsely reported the bear kill to the DEC as being killed in a DMU where bear hunting was legal, even stooping so low as to have a priest (you figure) vouch for him. In any event, a longstanding member of the camp and a lifelong friend of his turned him in to the DEC. Thankfully, I was not at the camp that weekend for I would have done the same. In any event the hunter who turned him in was ostracized and left the camp for good. I followed soon after and have never returned. To this day I am always ask to rejoin the camp, but always politely decline. The DEC fined the guy 1k, confiscated the bear and revoked his hunting privileges for 5 years.
  10. How many of us belong to hunting camps or hunting clubs? In the event that one of your fellow hunters deliberately broke the law what would you do. Report him, admonish him or expel him. I know many clubs and camps have rules and regulations which all agree to follow, however what if someone knowingly broke the law.
  11. If what you say is true, we have a problem! The priority should be the wildlife habitat and the critters who depend upon its preservation.
  12. Personal experience and preference you say,Education is the key and not mandatory enforcement. On the other hand, perhaps you and your cronies will be willing to to personally fund a statewide AR program. Have you any idea on how much money a program such as statewide AR will cost? Where is the money coming from? I certainly do not want to pay for it! I am sure that you believe that a statewide AR program will be money well spent on a program that the DEC says has zero biological benefit to the deer herd in lieu of earmarking limited funds on more important issues such as habitat improvement and public land acquisition. Where is the hard data which supports your argument for the need for mandatory AR (opinions, personal experience and preference do not constitute hard data). It is obvious that for personal reasons you fail to take into account what the ramifications of the implementation of AR entail.
  13. You give yourself too much credit, you and your small circle of friends are the ones making the assumption.
  14. Looks like overal buck harvest is down about 300 while 2.5 and 3.5 only went up about 100. Means 300 less hunters where able to take a deer after several years of AR - hard to see the positive here. You want AR to succeed let the bucks mature to reach their potential. That would be an accomplishment for all the AR supporters to brag about!
  15. The buck kill can easily be determined but the age of the killed bucks is a different story altogether. Random aging of bucks killed can perhaps provide a statistical basis basis for an argument either way. I would like to know what the estimated deer population is in the AR areas. Since AR was established, how many book deer have been killed? Why are there so few or no DMP's in the AR areas. Is the habitat conducive to growing big bucks at all? Is AR an excuse for the lack of deer altogether and an attempt to placate hunters. Does AR serve the interests of private landowners who plant food plots and believe in QDM (sic)How much state land is available in the AR zones? I do not know. One thing for sure, I have no interest in hunting in such areas where the chance of shooting the deer of my choice is restricted. For all of you in your AR heaven good luck. I hope you reap what you sow. I know I will not be eating tag soup this upcoming season. What I do know is that, mandatory AR will never fly in the rest of the state
  16. It was the other knee this time. However this knee which was injured was operated on five years ago. Time to retire.
  17. I know nothing about trail cameras, but I know that with personal cameras if you take a photo (without zooming in) you are able to get more definition while editing. Can you set up your camera afield in a way that allows you to zoom in to achieve higher definition while editing?
  18. Buck Bombs, Drip bags, heat activated attractants, scented soils and the like, is this baiting?
