  1. I beleive it was a few sportsman's clubs that were behind the initial push, along with a lot of other supporters who were not members of those clubs. Those clubs are a comprised of all hunters. However, after the two initial WMU's the push came from mostly individuals for the two additional WMU's that eventually got AR's. A family friend was one of the people at the meeting, which was open to all, and was in support. It's hardly a bamboozle when AR's clearly work in my area 3H and 3J from what I and others I know have observed. I have not yet met one person that is against it in these WMU's. Even if you take a smaller sample set of the people on this forum that hunt in WMU's with AR. I asked my local butcher 2 weekends ago on opening weekend of bow season. He said that not only has the rack sized increased, the box sizes he used to pack the meat in had to be increased. He has been in the biz for 40 years, and said there has been no decrease in the amount of bucks (or does for that matter) since AR was implemented in 3H. Its because its not a minority. Then why should the majority of hunters in NY have to support a "pork barrel program" which the DEC considers unnecesssary to only serve the interests of a select minority of hunters statewide?
  2. This then begs the question, Why does the DEC support such a program which it deems unnecessary? Enforement of this program costs money and at at time where the DEC's coffers have been reduced; perhaps the funds devoted to such a program which only serves a minority could be better off earmarked for more deserving endeavors.
  3. I hope so! Keep sending those cards and letters to the North Pole and hope for the best!

    Bleat cans

I think I may try that "smell like a deerstuff" to perhaps increase my chances.
  8. These days, I either hunt by myself or with whoever is available. These days because of mine and many of my friends and relatives schedules and commitments its hard to make definitive plans to go hunting. Years ago I was the hunting trip planner but have since given up that responsibility. See you in the woods-Perhaps.

    Bleat cans

I have used the can several times as well as grunt tubes, bleats etc without success. Recently,I have had better success just sitting quietly not wanting to disturb the deer with any man made sound. Congratulations to those who successfuly employ such devices to attract deer, but I have retired my collection.
  10. I use a 1.5ton chain fall with an endless sling suspended from a tree branch to hoist the deer up. I made a triangle with two hooks fashioned from baling hooks to attach to the rear legs.
  11. True, they have survived in nature for millenniums but their present population and range is far greater today than in any other time and still increasing due to the actions of the human race. Hunters today are population control specialists used by DNR's to safeguard the habitat, protect the public and to keep populations under control (sic). Your support of QDM,AR and the like is tantamount to playing God so who is kidding who?
  12. Try not to lose any sleep over your baseless statement! Pleasant dreams!

  15. On my home computer, the site is described as potentially dangerous and will not permit me to access the site unles I change the security settings which is not a good idea. However, my work computer does not indicate that there is a problem.
  16. See, now I happen to know you are wrong. When I ran up to them with my Stanley retractable tape measure, they measured an average of 17.2398". I think I would have to learn the art of snap shooting if an antler spread rule were implemented. First I would have to get their attention with a whistle or by hollering so that they would look straight at me and I could see how the spread compared to the distance across their ears, and then get an arrow into them before they took off. : Doc Then you can dust off the slide rule to score him.
  17. Do not spray it on your head, you can loose your hair

  20. Mr. Cushing is correct in his statement. However, I would not wait to file a lawsuit to prevent the Department of Budget or the Governor from tapping into the Conservation Fund.
  21. It comes to me as no surprise that he was fired. Undoubtedly, other agency heads will enevitably suffer a similiar fate. Such individuals are political appointees and will be replaced by the newly elected governor as a form of reward and political payback. Rarely if ever are appointees to such posts given such jobs based upon experience and competence. The DEC is no different from any other State Agency faced with budget cuts, insufficient operating funds and looming layoffs. Patterson is probably not done ridding the state of Spitzer appointees in a preparation to the new governor taking office. I am sure the die is already cast and Patterson being a loyal soldier of the Democratic party will make some controversial decisions and readily take all the heat while accepting and enjoying a generous pension. Its politics afterall.
  22. Perhaps, you have heard the news that Grannis has been fired! Lets hear what you have to say.
