  1. That goes both ways. Before the ink was dry on the first reports that something had happened the anti-gunners were already on the news talking about it being an opportunity to push new bans through.

I'm a pro gun guy and I thought to myself that something needs to be done, and I'm sure I'm not alone............this tragedy is going to impact gun laws like no other, I read where someone said this will devastate America worse than 9/11, and I have to agree..............never came close to tears watching 9/11 coverage, can't say the same about this.

  2. I would like to see the number of convicted felons, people with orders of protections against them, and others who can't legally own firearms......who every year buy hunting licenses and ammo and then go to the shooting range all unchecked, something as simple as a driver's license check should prevent this. Should be no different than when you try to buy something with a maxed out credit card, "I'm sorry sir your purchase was declined."

  3. Typical reply. We have lost the battle so we should do NOTHING to prevent more guns from falling into the wrong hands. Unbelievable.

Never said nothing should be done, that's the farthest thing from my mind, I have no problem registering a gun, waiting to buy a gun, having them run a full background check, showing my ID to buy ammo, you name ..........just stating the fact of the staggering undertaking it's gonna be to control guns with the amount out there. I just didn't want to share my opinion that I have no use for anything other than guns for hunting and if the other type guns weren't available to the general public I could care less.

  4. I think if you take a look at these mass shootings, the majority, if not all the guns and ammo were legally obtained.........even if you took the magazine and reduced it to 5 instead of 10 shot's, anyone with a little experience could reload at a very rapid rate.............and how can you even begin to enact an effective gun control system when the country is filled with thousands of undocumented guns that can't be traced?

  5. I'm all for the youth hunt too but I do think the timing could have been better. I think a better Idea would be to shorten the bow season by a weekend and have a youth only weekend. Putting youth hunters with guns in the woods at the same time we are in full camo just doesnt make sense to me. As a bowhunter thats been away from the sport for 10+ years or so and just returned at the beginning of this past season I am not familiar with the stance of NY Bowhunters. Did they want to eliminate the youth season all together?

the wording in the bill made it so no guns or crossbows would be allowed during the archery season, that would have blocked any youth gun hunt during the archery season......I think the safety issue was one of the loudest arguments against the youth hunt, and it turned out that it was a non-issue.

  6. This is what aggravates me about governtment. Why does the youth hunt have to be put into this bill anyway. They are 2 seperate issues. Does this veto mean no crossbow at all now? I have no problem with crossbows during gun season but not really keen on use during bow season but thats beside the point.

I agree, I would have supported the bill if it would not have also eliminated the youth hunt, instead I wrote the Governor asking him to veto it. I also cancelled my membership to NY Bowhunter's for the very same reason......I'm a very strong supporter of any youth hunts.

  7. I'm sure field dressing on his land did not help - especially if he is hunting as well.

and the whole yelling at him to get another shot into the deer still has me baffled, I would love to hear the neighbor's version of this incident.

  8. The law was pretty much written to protect hunter's from anti-hunter's who disrupt hunts, I think we all have heard of how they have organized to disrupt hunts at areas that are being opened for first time hunts or when they encounter hunters on public land.........unfortunately it isn't a crime to be a bad neighbor.

  9. How is cutting trees on your own property hunter harassment? Please find me that one in the law books. You have the right to cut wood any time you want to. He on the other hand has no right to fire off shots like that especially if he fired them onto the neighbors property. criminal negligence at the least, which is much more than hunter harassment. Could have been another hunter there he was shooting in the direction of.

charged with criminal negligent what?.criminal negligence itself is not something you can be charged with...........

  10. You are right on, and don't think that that stuff is not taking it's toll on our society. Also, those CSI programs that get as graphic as possible when showing some of the crimes of the mentally ill I can just see some of these wackos drooling and taking notes.

But here's the problem. First amendment speech protections do not allow any governmental corrections to that problem (and probably rightfully so). So the solution lies in the hands of the viewers. We have to each decide that those are not appropriate programs and deal with it with our channel selectors. I have already started.

The answers to the violent games lies in the hands of the parents. They certainly have the right to demand that certain items not be brought into the house. It's time for parents to grow a set and start enforcing rules to their own homes. You find those games in the house, you destroy those games...... simple.

it's just like anything else, some people shouldn't drink, watch porn, own guns, watch violent movies or play violent video games..........it set's something off in them that is potentially dangerous..........then there's million's who can do all the above with no problem's.

  11. It will be near impossible to account for all the guns and who has possession of them, the gun laws are so varied from state to state there's no way to keep things in check.........in NYS it's illegal for a convicted felon to possess a firearm, yet how many purchase ammo and a hunting license every year? when they go in to purchase a hunting license or ammo a red flag should pop up and the authorities should be alerted.

  12. you would have to show that the guy does it on a regular basis and is going out of his way to locate you and cause the disturbance, a one time or first time incident of someone cutting wood or doing any loud type of work on his own property usually won't fly...........that is "usually", if the guy set's up shop 20 yards from you and says something like "hey a**hole, enjoy your hunt", probably gonna be a different story.

  13. "She got up a several times, went a few steps and crashed. She was heading toward the property line and my neighbor also hunts. I called out for him several times in the hopes he could put a final shot in her to end her suffering but there was no answer so I took the final shot myself from my stand."............I was just rereading this portion of the original post and it kinda jumped out at me, seems the original poster may have taken the finishing shot when the deer was on the neighbor's property, and how closed was the other guy if he called out to have the neighbor finish her off? maybe the neighbor has a very good reason to be angry.
