  1. Coffee and yogurt wasn't the best decision I made this morning. Had to make a u-turn and destroy the bathroom. The kind where you come out sweating and it hurts to wipe. Where each time you think you're done but there more. The kind where you have to drink water afterwards because you're dehydrated. Yes, that kind. I get to my spot right at sun up and some one else beat me to my spot. That's how my morning has been going.

  2. my method is usually thinking I'm being quiet until I see the white flags running the other way......my problem is my feet are usually one step ahead of my eyes. I won't even attempt it unless the weather is windy, rainy or snowing.

  3. This brings to mind an old local fellow, now passed on,  who was an avid hunter and shooter...

Nearly all of his firearms, including , but not limited to expensive skeet and trap guns, showed the signs of his "customization"  both on the metal work and the wood..

His first name was Mort, and the common joke around the gun club was that all of his guns had been " MORTIFIED"....

I have that same talent.........my early Duck hunting guns are quite the pieces of art, who knew they made special screwdrivers for working on guns and that wire wheels aren't the best choice for removing surface rust?......water pump pliers and vise grips? no better tools for taking off the magazine tube cap.....oh, almost forgot, did something really bad to a bolt action .22 once....wound up having to cut it into small pieces to dispose of it after my Father found out.

  4. Just a heads up, the vultures in here are going to be all over you shortly for posting that you shot a deer illegally.  If that was shot in NY, "legal" sunrise isn't until almost 7:30.  You may want to "revise" your story a bit.  Just sayin.

luckily Sunrise can vary greatly across the State......I'm sure that deer was taken in an area with an earlier Sunrise. Sunrise at home for me today is 7:03, in Buffalo? 7:29.

  5. I will give the hair dryer thing a go. The whisker biscuit is a full one (goes all the way around) with black on the bottom, but the vanes only pass through brown stuff.

An arrow flying out of the plane of its actual trajectory would potentially have lift (e.g. if you point an arrow up at a 45 degree angle but throw it horizontally so it's moving away from you but looking upward), because the air can push even against the cylindrical shaft a small amount, but since arrows don't move like this, and they are in line with their travel of movement, there won't be any lift on one. I suppose if you wanted to you could build an arrow with active vanes on the back and near the tip that steer it like a rocket, or a smart bomb. This would let you flatten its trajectory in theory completely flat, but at a given distance it would also arrive a bit slower. But imagine if you had only one pin set all through 70 yards and never had to adjust for distance. In the future all our arrows will have tiny cameras in the nose!

I need a nap after reading that.....

  6.  put the tags into the hands of hunters on the property that can be hunted, for a longer time, with the most efficient weapon and stack them up.

right, why not put nuisance tags into the hands of hunters in these areas? I know that's taboo to many, but why just give them to farmers? if it's a problem, then give more leeway to the hunters in areas where deer are a problem.

  7. anyone on here looking for a bow for a youth? I have an older PSE Spyder with a new string and cable that I no longer have a use for. I know several REPUTABLE members have posted their kids shooting bows. This would be a great starter bow for any kid that would take them into their first year or two of hunting. I know I was taken once, but I still like to help out when possible...let me know if you fit the bill and I'm more than happy to help out....no strings attached, but if you can pay for shipping, that's all I want if that's all you can afford....oh. and I will be more selective of the person I send it to.

  8. wasn't he talking about non hunting land owners? Sounded it. If a spot is hunted it could be difficult to get permission. It isn't easy, I know I try every year to get into new areas. it isn't impossible though. The right 5 acres can be an absolute honey hole.

I don't begrudge anyone, hunter or non hunter, who won't allow access, that's their right...I wouldn't. The land access problem will NEVER be solved unless they offer some incentive for those who do. It's a dead issue as it stands now.

  9. I wish more landowners understood the General Obligation law. it won't stop a suit being filed but it is pretty easy to get dismissed because of it. Same could happen for a trespasser walking their dog.

is it a matter of that or just people don't want to share? how many guys on here with land would be willing to allow others on it to hunt? my guess is not many if any at all.

  10. Rock climbers have been using those harnesses forever. I would think if theres an issue with hanging upsid down, falling out of them, etc, youd hear about it and they would use something else.

but do they have other ways they are attached to the rock? I don't know that's why I was asking, and I would think that the average rock climber is in just a tad bit better shape then the average hunter....most hunters have a way of stopping themselves from hitting the ground, but no plan as what to do once they are hanging there, whether it be right side up or upside down.....just a thought.
