  1. Wonder if you have looked having local electrical utility give you a price for running Underground primary electric service to log home. I understand that 1/2 mile trench and conduit is some work, but maybe with at least the creature comfort of electricity, you may get more of a bidding war for your property and let the next owner worry about the well and septic....just my humble opinion.

I would think that would be a huge investment for a minimal return....

  2. I never accused anyone in particular of being a trophy hunter. But to the guys not hunting at all because they might see a deer they can't shoot is ridiculous, to ME. I still hunt after I've filled my buck tag and there is a possibility I'll see an even better buck, that's the chance you take. I never once agreed with this rule, I don't think its right either. But to the guys that say they aren't setting foot in the woods because of it I believe are foolish...

I would guess that depends on whether or not you have a large parcel of land locked up, leaving them be for two weeks probably will not affect the overall outcome of that persons season......personally I would hunt either way, but totally understand the reasoning of some for not hunting.

  3. I will say this, there is NO benefit to leaving your stand early......whether or not you choose to shoot after legal hours is up to you.....and I highly doubt that you will have any problem with an ECO if you pop out of the woods an hour after the legal time, travel to and from your stand outside of legal shooting time has been going on forever, and they would have been having a field day at parking spots if this was the case. The last few years I have hunted at a National Wildlife Refuge, and they allow you out an hour ahead of time and allow you an hour after to check back in, and this has both Federal and State Officers working during these hunts.

  4. Let me just say I've been hunting 30 yrs and I own and hunt only on my own land and do not bait and I do get out of my tree when I can't see my pins....BUT there are plenty of hunters "we all know" who tresspass, bait, stay out too late (already discussed), and think they own all the deer in the woods...let's be honest....and no laws are going to change these neanderthals because its all about them

so you agree that what your Buddy did was a poor choice and a bit "neanderthalish"? and had nothing to do with the law?

  5. I doubt they can ever fix the access problem....they can make all the changes they want to the season and in the big picture those with the land access will make it work and other than being inconvenienced as to when they can harvest certain animals they probably aren't going to make huge increases in how many they harvest.......anyone with land at their disposal will just sit it out and wait for their time and in the end there will be no affect on the animals patterns and they will be there for the taking when that person decides to hunt.

  6. But the full synthetic change , at Valvoline, was $65 for up to 5 qts. I can do two full synthetic changes for that.

I know that you're paying for the convenience of having someone else change your oil, but to me its just not worth paying double.

I hate paying anyone for stuff that I can do on my own, whether it's a $10 or $50 dollar savings, and it's not even the $ I worry about, it's about having it done correctly.....but I can't see the complaint about paying someone charging $20.00 to do the work you if that's the route some take

  7. One question I would appreciate answered, how does New York State pay the farmers? It's been mentioned numerous times on the site. Believe someone is spreading mis information. But look forward to someone enlightening me.

pretty simple, they claim however much of a profit loss that they attribute to the damage created by the deer and they get a tax benefit......do you think they just have to swallow the amount of money they lose to deer damage, I think probably not.

  8. I know a few guys that increase the draw weight for hunting and drop it back down in the off season when they're more into a target shooting mode........I doubt there are many on here who would have any trouble jacking up the draw weight a few weeks before the season and would have little if any trouble making the minor adjustments in their shooting to be ready to hunt. that's what I would do anyway.

  9. Yea well buddy shot at 7:00 PM Oct 3rd and hit he "thinks " what was a doe "it might have been a buck" ??? and recovered arrow broken below the vanes but no blood trail at all.  Looked with spotlights and next morning for hours and still no blood>>>"So where did you hit it?" "Oh not sure maybe the leg?????"  So maybe legal light rule might not be so senseless...

that really has no bearing on the law, but more a case of someone taking a shot that they shouldn't have.

  10. I don't think the local Mom and Pop Auto repair shop do oil changes to make a ton of money, it's just something they do to keep their loyal customers happy...kinda like to gun shop that sells licenses, they make peanuts off of those sales but hope you coming to the store for that will create other sales..........much like the coleslaw and pickle that every diner puts on the plate, 90% of the people don't eat it and it probably costs the diner a few bucks in the long run, but if it makes a few happy and gets return business it was well worth the minor loss.

  11. My daughter's Forester have NEVER gone into a quick Lube place and not had a leak on either the drain plug or the filter. Even after I tell them to pay attention to it, it leaks.

not to mention they're absolute slobs.....my Dodge has a filter that is in the most ridiculous spot, they just pull it off and get oil everywhere that drips for a few days after........I only go when I'm pressed for time, maybe 2 times a year.

  12. 10/11:

little before sunset I spotted a brown movement to my right behind a berry bush at about 25 yards. I could not tell what it was until I glassed it with my binoculars. I could barely make out the body outline behind the bush but I was able to identify the antlerless deer head. So I estimated where the vitals were in relation to the head and let an arrow fly into the bush.

glad that turned out well...............sometimes it's better to leave out some details.
