sounds like you may be finding the same doe and fawn......if it's the same general spot, what I would do is make a halfway decent ground blind without changing the look of the area too much and get in before light and just have a sit for awhile...........the one thing about rain is it can wash away your bloodtrail pretty quick, just something to keep in mind......oh, and get yourself a pair of binoculars if you intend to hunt as you've been, move slowly and use them to really pick apart the area prior to making your next move.

I get up early enough to drink some coffee and let it work its magic.....I'm usually good after that.

That's actually a great suggestion. Sometimes I run out of TP, the bible would be great to have around in a pinch

Why not just unload outside and bring the guns inside?

you would think, just unload in a safe direction with half a brain and you should be good..........guys in my camp would blow a gasket if a loaded gun came inside.

I didn't read to see if anyone else responded, but you hafta be nuts to climb a tree that has nails sticking out of it for steps, regardless of whether or not legal...anyone of them could have given way without notice, and I'll assume you had no harness on while in the tree as well........that aside, I've always been a portable treestand guy, after you've done some scouting and have found a promising area, set up, you can always adjust your spot based on sightings.

I think it's a good thing that mentors are not allowed to carry weapons during this youth hunt. The most interesting part of this thread for me is how so many hunters DON'T know the rules, nor do they bother to read up on them. I bet scores of mentors have taken kids out hunting during this youth hunt and carried weapons themselves. Of course most will never get caught since DEC officers are rarer than mountain lions.
yup.....

Your regular tag is only good for shooting a buck durong rifle season.

camp rules
# 1 no summer work weekends no hunt
#2 shoot a doe say good bye your done
#3 shoot a spike say good bye your done
#4 no messing around with any guns after sunset
and are left on porch and are always kept loaded
everything else is good to go
#4 has me kind of baffled.......loaded guns left outside unattended?
-
the tag usage and seasons vary throughout the State...........I would recommend getting a regulation book and narrowing down the rules for the area YOU intend to hunt, not advice from someone in a different zone.

I though it was 500 feet.
- Adult mentor must maintain physical control over the junior hunter at all times while hunting. This means the mentor and junior hunter must be close enough to talk without the aid of a radio and must be able to see each other....................however you interpret this.

You can have a bow with you as a mentor.
Nope....
Q: The youth deer hunt occurs during bowhunting season. Are adults allowed to continue bowhunting over Columbus Day weekend?
A: Yes, licensed adult bowhunters may hunt deer or bear with a bow over Columbus Day weekend. However, adults may not bowhunt for deer or bear while mentoring a Junior Hunter who is participating in the youth deer hunt. We recommend that adult bowhunters put their bow away for the weekend and spend time afield mentoring a junior hunter during the youth deer hunt.

. My son is 14 he is using his gun....you are telling me I can't hunt with my bow while he is hunting. For example he be in ground blind and I will be in a tree stand Couple hundred yards away.
pretty sure he has to be under DIRECT supervision....might want to check

it definitely does look like a person....question is whether or not it's in such an out of the way place that it's next to impossible to be that of a flesh and blood person.......damn, I think I just scared myself.

does he put them out in the roadways to be killed by cars and possibly kill or seriously injure innocent people........or do those people need to be punished so that's how he chooses to do it?
