Sure, I would like to shoot a deer every year...BUT due various constraints, it is not reality for me. Between work, chores, honey-do-lists my time where I can spend a couple of days hunting is limited. When I was in my 20's it was different, then in my 30's again, now in my early sixties....well, I think you know what I mean. Don't get me wrong, I still get exited for the beginning of all hunting seasons! Also my favorite book to read is the hardcover Cabelas winter addition. LOL

I really don't have that much wooded property, probably about 3 acres. Loggers up here have much bigger properties to choose from, especially when they pay money. For my property I have some hardwood, plus, fir, hemlock, and other almost worthless wood. And I don't really want all the area cut down.

If it is off, I guess you could try hooking a garden hose on the exite end and see if the water still flows. If there is only a trickle coming out the other end, then more than likely the valve is defective. What do you think?

I never heard of that term "Pumulator". It could be. Can you see the inside, either a shiny ball or flapper?

Well, generally yes, But it would also depend on the size of the hole or tear. I would think that as the pressure increases, the hole or tear would get larger. I put my money on a defective check valve. LOL

So it still seems either you have a defective check valve. I did read that sometimes there are two, one inside the pump and one right before the storage tank. If not the check valve, then it has to be a leak in the bladder inside the tank. Checking the bladder could be easy.

This morning I talked to a guy who delivered me 2 face cords of firewood and asked him if he was interested in logging a bit of my property. So, I may meet him and have him take a look at my acerage. The deal I want to make is he takes some wood and opens up the area for sunshine. Cost $'s = 0

Hmmm...OK, so you can't hear the water running back. Maybe, just mabye it is running back but through the pumps check valve? Did you ever fix the burnt contacts? If there is a pressure gauge on the tank does it also go up when the pump runs and then down after it stops?

A question that has not been answered yet ( I think ) is - can you hear water running after the well pump runs and fills the tank with pressure? If you do, then it is probably the water running back into the well = check valve malfunction.

You know I never heard of the NYB, nor the sling shot hunters, nor the crossbow hunters and all other "non-traditional firearm" hunters. I guess if someone or group wanted to hunt with a spear, like humans used to, some on this board would find some fault with it. Is it really that important that there is an impression that others are encroaching on what some of the writers here feel is their "territory" and "dates"? Maybe it's just me, but whatever "legal tool", a hunter uses is irrelevant to me. Maybe it's because there is some much land where I hunt (120,000+ acres) and it is the rare day when I hear or see another hunter. What I have been reading seems to be more about the issue that the hunting land and opportunity to hunt is very competitive in the writers areas. Hunting is hunting and there was a time when there were no seasons. Left to their own devices, we human beings when pressured to the belief that we are loosing our "personal" hunting space will begin to defend it. The verbal fight can be seen here. Let's keep our hunting traditions alive and not destroy from the inside.

You know sometimes it is worth the expense in getting someone with experience to figure it out and fix it. LOL

I think the youth hunt is a good idea! I can not remember last when I saw an adult mentoring with a "younger" person. If we don't get our youth involved the numbers of hunters will decline. This will be especially true and more evident when we start to look more like Europe, such as Germany. There you need MONEY, INFLUENCE and PASS a hunting test where the failure rate is 50%. Not to mention that the course you need to take lasts about 1 year! After you pass the test, you will need to purchase mandatory liability insurance. And after you do all that - you still don't have a place to hunt because all hunting property in Germany is either private or state. State land hunting is controlled by the regions game wardens who shoot and SELL the game they take on their particular area. The private hunting land is regulated by the lease holder and if you want to hunt, you need to get into the "clique" in that area. Ask me, I been there and done that! So my point is, lets get our youth hunting, involved in game management and eventually good citizens who will vote to stop any government encroachment to our current hunting liberties/responsibilities. My idea is to have us as hunting stewards get involved with area schools and propose presenting a not-for-credit seminar/course in hunting history and the affects of future non-involvement in managing our areas/states/country game. So, if you are really concerned about the hunting future for generations to come.....consider this youth hunt a first step. If it doesn't work, what would you suggest?

I know what you mean. I have a well at my camp and it is 500' deep! I think the pump is at 400'.

OK - lets see what happens after you replace the "pumpalator" what ever that is. LOL

Does the well have a foot valve? - I think that is what it is called. It prevents the water from draining back into the well. I believe it is part of the pump.

I started hunting at age 14 with a single shot .22. In 1967, at the ripe old age of 17 I bought my new Remington 700BDL 30-06 with my hard earned part time job money for $153. My Dad took me along on a PA deer hunt and I shot my first deer that year. The rest is history. At 18 I joined the military and everywhere I was stationed, except South East Asia, I hunted. I learned many new skills from Germans, Spaniards, Swedes and Nebraska Corn Huskers (LOL), Kentucky ridge runners and even Florida flat country "red necks". Here in New York I finally settled in and hunt the remote section of the Adirondacks. Do I shoot a deer every year? No, but for me the thrill is the hunt not the pulling of the trigger. Once I do that, the season is over. Thinking about people who haven't shot a deer in years brings back my experience with one person. One weekend I invited him to hunt with me behind my camp. He kept telling me how he has not shot a deer in 10 years! He was some what too anxious! Well, we did not shoot anything that weekend. I went up to his remote camp and hung out with his son and brother. The next weekend he asked me to hunt with him, his son and his brother, but I decided to hunt by myself in my area. Well, that afternoon, while he was sitting in a tree stand, he shot his brother directly in middle of his chest. He was dead before he hit the ground. It was a bad day for all of us! The moral here is take your time, don't get anxious, ALWAYS identify your target! If you don't shoot anything, there is always the next day! After that weekend I am now very cautious when and if I ever see another unknown hunter while hunting. I always wonder how "anxious" they are. Luckily, it is a rare day when I see a stranger.

Got back from my camp today and I checked out my trail cam. 1 week ago I had a couple of deer, this week = 0. Also looked at what trees and brush I could remove to put in a food plot. Lots of work - but it may be worth it. Hmmm......I could buy a bushel of carrots and just stick'em in the ground. No waiting. LOL Not!

Just got back from my camp. Checked my trail cam and nothing on it (7 days since last check). Also had no ticks. They must all be still in Long Island. (LOL)
