The parts for my 45. cal Vincent style percussion rifle were a tad over $700.00. Key word in that line was PARTS. I have 2 of them, one in a .40 cal the other a .45 the stock for the 45 cost more than most import inlines. T/C's are over priced A 209 primer will lift the projectile off the powder/pellet before the powder burns. Read the directions and warnings and unless its a Savage ML10 using smokeless powder! CLEAN~CLEAN & CLEAN AGAIN ! Stay away from gimmicks , quick fixes

I don't understand. Are you saying that the Muzzleloaders Association wanted a distance rule shortened for bow hunters, or they wanted it shortened to 250 feet for all weapons, or for muzzleloaders, or what? Reduced for bow hunting only. The NYSMLA proposed the regulation change. Why on earth is the muzzleloading association concerned about liberalizing a bowhunting restriction? Because we also hunt with bows & it was an important topic in the NYSCC big game committee meetings. Associations are not restricted to making proposals just for there group. I also asked legislators to support the trapping tag ID and turtle trapping bills. One of the big problems sportsmen face it they're polarized view and support of only their sport. That's one reason why we see hundreds of different associations splintered off each looking for that special deal.

send letters for crossbows in NY
bpb replied to sits in trees's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
Crossbows have always been legal to sell & own in NY. You just can't hunt with one. -
You guys missed a great weekend of shooting. It rained for about 45 min Saturday morning . The rest of the weekend was low 70's and sunshine.

Call Jack Patterson in Crogan and see if he has something for sale , or can build you one. Why spend $1,200.00 on a production firearm when you can get a custom for a few hundred more. I have a Tryon Pedersoli and it shoots well but it took some doing to get it tweaked in. Had a second one, it shot well also sold it. Also had Mortimer 12ga in flint, I didn't like the lock it was weak. Also have the Kentucky flinter a project rifle that I picked up , it is missing some parts.

Take a crabapple tree and graft an apple tree branch in.

nyslowhand, When you write your letters on sportsmen's issues send a copy to the DEC commissioner. That way your covered on both ends. At the moment all letters for the crossbow, trap tag I.D. number & snapping turtle hunting should go to the Governor as the bills are sitting on his desk. Your letters do not have to be long nor quote the constitution. Just state "you'd like the opportunity to hunt in warm weather with your muzzleloader". Flintlocks out of the ones I've shot, after a few fired rounds. I don't even notice the extra split second follow through time. A properly tuned lock will fire fast. Sept 5&6 we have a shoot at the Elbridge gun club just east of Weedsport. Actucally the club is in Jordan on Laird road.

If you were going to shoot a gun for accuracy how else would you do it except off a bench? I do that with my encore and sidekick with pyrodex select. So it is no biggie. the powder doesnt make the shooter, the shooter makes the load that shoots that way regardless of what powder or projectile. That's not my point that a bench is used. How about off hand shooting accuracy? I just think its funny how a 3 shot group at 50 yards with a scope is considered accurate by some. To initially sight in at 50 yards OK . WTH I have an old Ithaca model 51 smoothbore that can do that. I understood all the argument for inlines and scopes was so a fella could shoot that thirdy pointer at 200 plus yards. Elbridge gun club is having a ML shoot the 5&6th~ bring you ML down and enter a few events. I'm sure a inline match can be set up.

EPA Considering Ban on Traditional Ammunition
bpb replied to Fantail's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Don't foget Judith Enck the NY bottle bill lady who is now the EPA's Region 2 director. It took the antis 40 years but they finally head up almost every enviromental department in the nation. -
Not a tax~ For every dollar that is donated to the Venison Donation Coalition, $.95 is used towards processing the venison. $105,000 was spent in 2008 on venison processing fees. Donations can be made at your Town Clerk’s office or anywhere hunting and fishing licenses are sold. Just inform the D.E.C.A.L.S. licensing agent that you wish to make a donation to support the Venison Donation Program. All donations through D.E.C.A.L.S. are deposited directly into the Venison Donation Fund. Donations can also be accepted through the secure website, or send a check payable to: Venison Donation Coalition, Inc., 415 West Morris Street, Bath, NY 14810.

100gr volume of BH weighs about 70gr. Means you get about 63 shots per container. It is extremely consistant as well. Must look like gravel~ oughts and ones I had a customer give me 3 per measured tubes that contained a powder he claimed would not ignite everytime with his #11 cap inline. I dumped them out and the granules were the size of 1F cannon powder. I'd bet it was BlackHorn.
-
Yep just read it after I spent 3 hours drafting a letter. You can guarantee the antis will find a judge to order a ban and they will now go state to state. Just like they did with the lynx & wolf
-
For centerfire cartridges its copper which is already avaliable for some calibres, traditional BP rifles & ML nothing, modern ML copper with sabots. I suppose some sort of heavy metal core for weight. Which is liable to violate the armour piercing ammo ban as well.

send letters for crossbows in NY
bpb replied to sits in trees's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
Its a little late to be contacting your legislator as the bill is on the Governors desk. However you could call his office and tell him to sign the bill and amend the bill so Xbows can be used on private property during archery season. -
From what I've seen nothing is going to happen if people don't write letters. These have to contain one simple message that do not conflict or have their own personal views and morals attached to them. I recieved a total of 1 hand written and 3 emails on the proposed early SZ ML season.

I have to laugh at many of the powder reviews. I especially like the 3 shot clover leaf holes at 50 yards. All of them are shot off the bench and with a scope which is not a great feat. It seems the main driven fact is the dislike of cleaning afterwards. I don't know $30.00 for 10oz of powder doesn't leave a fella lots to fool around with. @ 100gr per shot you get just over 43 shots. If I had to go that route a fella may as well purchase a Savage ML10 and shoot smokeless powder.
