I thought, though I don't have a reference in front of me that the real issue with Remington, and Sears too for that matter is really about massive debt. Yes they are in a tough business environment right now but they might have survived without massive levels of debt. Nothing wrong with hedge funds and the Carl Icahn types kicking management in the ass but I am not so sure having so many companies sucked dry is good for many of us.

In NY would a dealer ship them for you to an out of state buyer from an auction site like GunBroker? I'm in MA with some interesting laws too, Usually on GB the buyer pays shipping costs and here I also pay a similar FFL fee. Bill

I have a Vanguard S2 in .243Win I bought maybe 3 years ago at Bass Pro Shops for a price I couldn't refuse. I don't have any other bolt guns so I can't comment on weight but it is very accurate. Definitely a 1 MOA rifle, I just wish I was a 1 MOA shooter.

One 20ga and the rest were are 12's. Prices ranged from about $550 to just over $1,000.

The last time I was there the Cabela's in Berlin MA had a few old A5's in the used gun racks and a dozen or more really nice ones in the Gun Parlor.

I didn't listen to the initial talk but it's my understanding that just like in the USA being collared and named does not mean the lion could not be hunted, it was really an issue about guide licenses and if he was intentionally baited off a closed area. We have an older 6x4 John Deere Gator. Pretty amazing off road & can pull and carry a lot of weight but the underside is like a metal john boat and it becomes stuck in snow pretty quick once the snow lifts the wheels off the ground. I'd expect a golf cart to be the same. Expect a real off road type utility vehicle to be better. Bill

I went thru this thought process with my now 13 year old for some time. I picked up a used (about 1970) georgous 20 gauge 870 Wingmaster in the low $200's. Cheap enough to gunsmith up and shorten the stock or add a good recoil pad. He's working his scout rifle merit badge before shotgun but I blinked and he is now 5'10". It is a bit long and awkward and have since also picked up a 20 gauge English grip Citori at a great price ($750). Would work great for a petite girl or woman. Bill

There is an Alaska Hunting/Shooting forum I read all the time under the spell of the same fantasy. As I understand it for dangerous game you want big and slow (it's all relative) so your .375 & .416 are favorites as backups for any brown bear hunting. You need to break bones. Magnumns are a long distance thing. You'd kill the same size game with a 300 Weatherby as a 30-06 but at longer ranges and may have problems with a very close shot without super premium ammo, either no expansion or explosive and shallow and unedible. I still want a Weatherby magnum though. Bill

Two Pythons just came up in the last week on GunBroker. I think a 6" barrel is the most common and collectors want blue before nickel or stainless. In the last year I saw a 2 1/2 or 3 inch blue Python sell for $4,000! The first one, still active for a couple more days has a 4" barrel. Started at $0.00, no reserve and is now at $1,975. Auction # 476934969 The second one, blue 6" barrel started at $1,500 with a reserve and closed with no bids! Auction # 477048663 Wow, I am very suprised. If you watch the auctions enough there is a wide range of interest & prices for the same firearm so maybe this one was just missed by the Python buying collectors. Maybe strategy-wise he should have started with a lower initial price? BIll

When researching prices on Gunbroker make sure you are looking at 'sold' prices (your have to register and log in and use advanced search) and not the initial asking prices. Plenty of dealers throw stuff out there high and hope to get lucky.

I say $1.500 is low at this point. With no drag line on the cylinder I think it would sell quickly at $1,500. The auctions are funny. Sometimes it seems two identicat guns will sell for significantly different prices. I bought a 6" nickel Python two or three years ago for $1,450 and one with damaged finish just sold this month for $1,675. Nickel and stainless are more rare but collectiors want the deepest royal blue. Had dreams of one of each but ain't gona happen.

I have two Browning Citori's. A 12 ga I paid $850 for on Gunbroker 5 years ago (add $75 or so for FFL shipping on both ends) and a 20ga English stock version I bought at a LGS last fall for $750. Yes on the auction sites people ask stupid high prices for most everything but if you are patient and check weekly good deals do come up. Helps that I have 4 or 5 LGS's (I am in MA) with their used inventory on the web so I check them often too. Bill

So speaking of recent celebrity firearms, the Exhibition Superposed Skeet owned by Robert Stack has been on GunBroker as long as I can remember. A couple of years anyway. Microscopic market for that type of thing. If you want to speculate with a gun purchase get a Python!

One way to start is have the gun locked up but don't have any ammo in the house. The shortages are easing so you can buy on the way to the range. Once you have had it in the house locked up and out of sight she will realize it's not a big deal. Then take her shooting. It's hard to change the option of someone who thinks guns are dangerous when, as I remind my spouse weekly riding a horse is like 1000 times more dangerous than just about anything else, including mototcycles. Shooting is waaay down the list. It's emotion, not logic. There is also a great book called 'gun guys' something or other. He does describe a couple of idiots so my comment was 'yes and those idiots are on the highway too'. Bill

Drove down Route 22 from 90 to MIllbrook and back on Saturday and must of seen 100 turkeys in the fields of all those dairy farms. Geese too as it is manure spreading season. Funny that my wife is from Albany and never saw them as a kid but I know the turkeys in MA were introduced as birds trappped in NY. Anyone have much luck knocking on a strangers door and asking for permission to hunt? Bill

While we would definetly buy another GSP from Hallmack, another option is to check for a local NAVHDA chapter near you and see what is more local to you. When I went to a few events maybe 4 years ago, GSP's were the most popular but NAVHDA recognizes a lot of breeds. Yes a well bread dog is probably going to cost you around $1k. While the pointing instinct is very intense they still do require more intense training for a finished dog and for my next dog will consider one older than 8 weeks and with some training under his or her belt. Believe me the NA (Natural Ability) test requires more training than you would first think.

We bought ours from Hallmack Kennels, Delaware County, but I forget where exactly and it's not on their web site. We have a brown (liver) bitch who is 6. Yes they are great dogs but also have a high enery level and I take her to a park or forest to run almost every day. I left my game camera out for about 2 weeks under an oak tree in my suburban back yard just for fun. We have a herd of 1 or 2 does and that years offspring around all the time and once a year see a buck. I did get him but have been hoping for a bear but no luck yet. Out of 250 pictures, here are 3 and what is going on with the middle one here? We are on the landing flight path for a small airport but that is one low flying plane to make that kind of a light flash. Did I miss some astronomical event or did the camera miss-fire? I am at a loss to explain it. Bill
