  1. Best thing to learn don't hunt in the line of a house. Back to the house and dont forget 500 feet away.
  2. You can't tell a deers age without sending a tooth in. Only age I can tell you he is a shooters age lol. Other than that its just a guess. My guess would be 2.5 to 3. Nose is still kinda short theres not much sag to em he looks solid, smaller body. But nice rack and unless hunting a fenced farm he is a shooter all day. Good luck. Get em send a tooth and a lets see who had the best guess !?!
  3. It happens every year. Its not really a thing to call it " Gun Hunters " Since a lot of bow hunter ( Like myself ) hunt with gun. I think bow hunters are generally better hunters and use better ethics. Not always true but more times than not it is. I hunt a good chunk of private land sometimes and it has state land all around it. You will see people on wheelers with a bunch of freinds just trying to make noise and get a deer to hop up. On opening day I was walking to my stand and there was a guy hunting right off the main trail. I mean to be sitting and clearly willing to shoot at something that will have anyone in the woods walking in or out on it is nuts lol.
  4. Elmo that trigger will work wonders. I have a freind in the Marines and he has a Remi 700 he decked out and a Timney trigger was one of the first upgrades. Makes it a flawless trigger pull. To snap that trigger back with he tip of your finger and as long as you have no flinch that gun is a tack driver
  5. We dont know what hole is the first shot so if for instance if the middle shot was the first hole in the paper it would be a shorter distance either way. I always go from the middle of the bullseye since thats were I would be aiming. Out of 5 shots I would like to see at least 2 of them hit the red box. If not i would adjust my scope. But you can't adjust it if its not the scope. I want to stress that im not saying he is a bad shot. That is beyond fine for a deer shot semi close range but I would want it to be a little tighter if im going to be reching out there. And would want to see a improved group after time. And a 30-06 is capable of great groups witht the right round. Maybe he shot back to back with a bigger grain bullet like a 180. Hard to say.
  6. Good cailber it would make the shot easy no doubt. Farthest kill I got was about 200 yards and that was with a 270. I shoot on a farm all the time so im always shooting at at them distances and felt confident I would make a ethical and clean kill. Get er done man. Good luck.
  7. Idk bout 300 yards lol. I would want to tighten up groups at 100 first. Each box on that target is a inch so its about a 3inch group at 100. And thats not bad dont mistake me but out to 300 yards unless done and proven I wouldn't take that shot while hunting.
  8. Thats can't be a slug the hole is to small??? Shooting is decent it will put a deer down thats for sure.
  9. ?? There is nothing more on this thread than the word "Age". And since it says the thread was made yesterday near 9 were working on 27 hours young.
  10. Age is next to impossible to guess you would have to send a tooth in. Nice buck any way you cut the pie congrats! Is that a morning buck or was he roaming before sunfall?
  11. All I can say is... No, lol. I mean I wouldn't try it. The deer will pattern you and most likey avoid that area. And super good luck on getting a mature buck that way. Not saying it isn't possible just saying I wouldn't want to be the one testing the theory.
  12. My thoughts would be a low shot semi heavy blood at first then clotted up the deer most likey laid down after some time licked his wounds and lived to see another day. It's really not to uncommon.
  13. Super cool. Congrats little man rock on.
  14. He is a 6 point. Bad picture my camera is dam near as old as me lol.
  15. After a long week and a super late stand move it paid off. I had my stand in a spot off a swamp I hunt maybe 150 yards out. I kept hearing sticks crunching and what sounded like steps threw the thick grass I felt I had to move my stand. Maybe a week ago I knew rut was kicking in so it was now or never I went back after dark during the rain so I could stay super quiet and moved my stand 100+ yards in. First day had a button buck walk by. Next sit I got in around 2:30 I was going to sit until sun down. I heard what I knew was something coming threw the woods not even a minute later a doe come running by like she saw a ghost. Not stopping one time or slowing down for anything. Well that got me thinking and got the ticker going maybe 5 minutes later here comes this buck from right behind me. Nose to the ground he was on a power stroll threw the woods. Seemed to be following that doe. Got em 15-20 yards out and smoked em. It was a great hunting season and a few good decisions made and being in the stand more than the living room thinking about it got er done. Good luck to everyone. Hunting season is the best season.
  16. It is possible even after a lot of blood loss that it could heal up. Depending on how much blood your talking about more times then none the do die its just so far from were it was hit. It looping around sounds just like what a doe did after I shot her she was bleeding for a while and went almost a half of mile before it died. The loss of blood could mean it started to clot up.Or if there was massive blood it could have been running out of blood and then would most likey be semi close by to last known blood location. What kind of broadhead were you shooting ?
  17. Only time seeing hime on camera?? Better set up on him asap. Any day time pics? Good luck. Seeing them on camera is cool but seeing them hanging from a tree in your backyard is even better.
  18. Idk man. I shot a buck Thursday with a 30-30 150 grain. Didn't pass threw and I ended up taking another shot to get the job done. First time I saw first hand that a 180 grain bullet would have felt just right. On another note try bow hunting and loosing a deer or two you will never want a underpowered weapon for anything again.
  19. No single song for me but I love to listen to the K-Rock morning show lol it always makes me laugh and gets the gears rockin.
  20. Double post I know but make sure to look past the last known blood spot as good as you can I found blood after not seeing any for 20-30 feet then found the deer 10 yards past that. Again, good luck. Nothing sucks more than loosing a deer.
  21. I lost a buck and was on a trail of blood for over a mile. Maybe you got a brisket shot. They bleed for ever and will run and run. Pics shows a good amount of blood I would assume he died. Hope you find em.
  22. The gun that won the west lol. My 30-30, favorite hunting rifle for any woods that I dont need a 100 yard plus shot in. 270. for anything that I need to get out there.
