  1. This may sound weird but if I happen to have my calls in the truck and I see a feild of deer I pull over and see what affects them and I noticed if its not a big dominant buck they will literally run away from the rattle. And I sorta think people over do it and make it sound like 2 grandpa bucks fights and they don't want to know much lol.. It would be like stepping in the ring with tyson. Just my personal observation.
  2. O believe me It's almost 3am I have to work at 9 i'm loosing sleep thinking about this deer lol, and i'll be in the woods looking at the spot around 7am with a buddy. I'm giving it my all to make sure I either find and tag the deer or make sure I missed. And I follwed up the shot she was standing on the edge of a huge patch of thick stuff with one other doe. When I shot the doe I was aiming at she jumped in the air then they both ran off. I'll be looking hard for a hour or so before work and its been cold all night so the meat should be fine.
  3. Got to check with some locals. Tell him never to give up though. I know from experience I allways wanted to hunt but my parents never really had the money to get me in the sport. I had to wait until I was 18 and could buy my own firearm and license. And I never shot a deer for my first 3 years hunting.. As I was young and still learning the ropes. My point is it takes time to learn the skills and i'm sure you know that just wouldn't want anyone to stop hunting due to lack of deer. I'm assuming he still has his buck tag. Find some local state land see if you can set him up on a feild this weekend it should be cooling right down and the deer should be running strong. Good luck too both of you!!
  4. Thats what I needed to hear lol, a few of my other hunting buddys told me the same thing. I made this post right after I got home I was still very upset with the way things played out. But a day at the range to make sure the scope didn't get knocked off a bit, and the cooler temps coming this weekend I have high hopes. I never quite just adjust/fix to the mistake I made and i'll be back.
  5. Welcome, its a great forum based on NY hunters. Nice buck in your profile pic and good luck on the rest of the season!!
  6. O don't worry jim I was aimed on the deer I wanted lol. I'm not just shooting at the first movement. I have nothing to blame it on other than not enough practice this year and a poor shot. And thats the most frustrating part about it I know I have a better shot then that. I'm headed to the range tomorrow to hope my scope was off a little or something lol.
  7. Yea steve after my day today I sorta gave up any thoughts about what ever that may be. I doubt I will see it again { On camera }..Or off for that matter.
  8. Man guys and gals i've been hunting my but off all year just to see a buck to far away from shotgun range. And then today after sitting all day I finally seen 2 doe come out now ofcourse there literally 200+ yards away so I stalk them all the way up to about 100 were I thought my shot would be fine. Well guess what I was wrong... I aim down threw my scope I see the doe and BOOM... She jumps into the bushes and off she went un touched. Now it's really a disappointment to me. And i'm by far a quiter and I know I still have some time left its just one of those things. Didnt mean to sound like any type of way, just figured i'd vent to a bunch of fellow hunters.. UUUhhhhhhhh...
  9. Heard nothing, and I get a few papers that covers articals about new york hunting. And DEC reports on rut and other things!!
  10. I'm in the same boat I got onto a lot of nice bucks really late season. I really wish we got a few colder days would really help. Lots of pictures of nice bucks at night when its 30+ its been really warm in my area as of late. Goodluck I myself will be hunting everyday I can untill the end of the season.
  11. What the what lol.. Try telling someone you seen that without a picture would be like pulling teeth.
  12. Doing anything like that while rushing doesn't sound like a good idea to me. And im not saying that he's rushing not knowing how many he has to do but.. Good luck hope you get a good outcome!!
  13. Unless i'm just really tired or im over looking this picture it looks like this buck has 4 points on the one side and only one long one on the other.
  14. That was pretty cool to see on the camera reveiw. First I saw the doe's coming around then the one doe looked over and I saw eyes... Then came this big guy that I will be coming for him sometime this week.
  15. Its hard to say really. Maybe just talking to the guy and trying to split the land up so you can both SAFELY hunt the same area. And hey using some scent pads is a great thing to be doing right now with the weird rut and warm temps. I mean not 20 of them lol maybe 2. Try and talk to him is the first step i'd say. Good luck.
  16. Nice job man. My opinion is that a 243. caliber weapon is not to small at all for a deer gun. I've heard people asking and talking about using much smaller caliber weapons.
  17. I want a 243. Win bad.. So bad that i'm going to put on on layway at gander mountain for next gun season. Nice wood stock with a nikon or leupold scope.
  18. I have been hearing more shot's before and after legal hunting hours than anything. And I havn't seen a single DEC in the feild this year. Normally i'll bump into 1 or 2 in a hunting season!
  19. O yea maybe.... And the ghost of christmas past to right... Come on now the hole humor thing is old when someone is just trying to have a normal thread talking about a real live hunting situation.
  20. Thats a good idea WNY and one that I will do. Im just trying to figure out wth this thing is.
