I have heard some experts recommend sitting beds early, cruising areas late morning through mid-day and back to beds for evening during all day rut sits. Admittedly, I rarely can make an all day sit and have never tried moving as suggested.

As an update, Joel caught 3 large mouth last night with Grampy's whacky rigs. Most he has caught in a night!
-
Great tip on the cc
-
You will like it Pygmy if you can deal with the first episode and accents.
-
Was that a compliment Phade? No more of that now! Back to breaking my chops. And you will recall deer one since you jumped her coming in to find me when I had no clue what to do next. Just sitting in my blind with an adrenaline overload. Lol

Anyone watch it? I struggled through the first episode on Netflix, but it has become really good. Not sure why I have such a hard time understanding English though. Just starting season 2. My friend said its like the Sopranos but set in 1920s Ireland. He is dead on.

Not to mention that learning when and how to draw on a deer takes experience but I guess you need to be proficient before you get there.
-
Even though you can become decent in a short time, the real test is when you are ready to shoot a live deer. The more you ingrain your form, the less likely you will blow it if a B&C comes by. It should be second nature. Imo

With a compound and sight, you could be proficient at 20yds pretty quickly. I was an ok shot (5" or less groups) within a few weeks. Killed my first two deer my first season ever hunting with the bow and bought it in sept. The first shot wasn't the greatest but that was more nerves. Now the bare bow recurve is a whole different story. Lol

That photo doesn't adequately show the huge amount of lures, worms and hooks you sent. It was very very generous of you Dave.

Grampy was so generous in sending my son, who is addicted to bass fishing, a HUGE assortment of his best bass lures/rigs. It was a complete surprise for my son and he was almost speechless. What a great gift from a great guy/fisherman. I hear my son now commenting on all the great tackle. Thanks so much Dave. I have never seen my son more excited. I know you will be blessed in kind. You were way too generous! He is planning to go out and put that tackle to use tonight It's so great to see a man like Grampy with such a big heart share his passion with my son. And tips from a pro like you is over the top. You made a big impression on Joel (and me)!

I have never tried butterflies, but what the heck .... great idea TF, hard to miss a monarch flying in the wind - just be sure it is very windy The milkweed really works well even for subtle current like thermals
-
Dry it out for testing winds!

I realize it's an expensive rig, but well worth it. I agree it's a very good deal. Haven't posted on any of the major gun sites yet.

Encouraging private land being opened to general hunting
moog5050 replied to Doc's topic in General Hunting
Geeze Tom. Spoken like someone that wants access to land I paid for and continue to pay taxes on annually. I am sorry I am impeding your hunting by not letting you on. Good news though, you can go buy your own parcel with your own money and let the world on if you choose. Or just hunt the thousands of acres of public land that are already available to those that choose to use their money on other things. Perhaps you should have the right to my truck also to haul your deer out. C'mon. Are you serious? -
I was going to post a photo but I can't find the arrow. Hmmmm...... Must have zipped through the center of the bull and kept going. Yea, that's the ticket.
-
That's weird Pygmy, I was hoping to be you when I grow up.
-
good luck! I would hunt right from your shooting bench!
-
Darn good shot at 60!
-
Looks a little low Larry - at least a 1/4". Are you peaking, dropping your bow arm. Uggh, you have soo much practice to do before the season. Maybe you paced off 26yds or were wearing larger flip flops?

Bino Harness Recommendations
moog5050 replied to BKhunter's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
Not at all. I can even shoot my traditional bows with it on and they are much longer requiring greater clearance. I haven't tried all of the others, but I would have a hard time imagining any improvement on the FHF. Easy to put on, doesn't tangle, stays close to the chest, very adjustable for size. I don't wear it much hunting just because where I hunt, binos arent really needed, but I like having the option. -

Bino recommendations under $1500 or so
moog5050 replied to Marion's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
Whatever you choose, you can add a doubler to serve as a spotting scope. It works great as long as you put the binos on a tripod. I have vortex vipers and they are great for $5-600. The razors should be better but I doubt I could tell the difference. I should add, doubler works great at the range. Might not be optimal for in the field.
