You guys hunt high up. I think most of our stands are around 12-14' to the platform. We just try to find good back cover. At my weight, I probably look like a bear in a tree to most deer.

Happy B-Day!
-
well there you go.
-
That great - he stays one year younger. Happy Bday!

The wax molds to the base and helps even more if things are uneven. Plus they are cheap. Why go with rubber?
-
Hmmm - just received this photo of Larry at the last 3d shoot (pretty crazy shoot). Note arrow length: By the way - he won!
-
But you shoot 8' arrows don't you Larry?
-
I think he is asking if the rubber o rings work as well as the wax for a toilet, not for his bow. lol

I will say FSW, our target bucks are not all equal so its possible and even likely that the 3 year old I may shoot before seeing our biggest target is settling for something less, but it would make the target list in any event if I knew about it. Two years ago I passed a lot of little guys in bow and never shot a buck just because I never had a shooter come by.
-
That's about it. I shoot plenty of doe for the meat. Just my preference.
-
I will say this, give me a heavy object to move once, rather than light objects 1000 times. Guess that's why I always liked powerlifting vs. body building. I have trained heavy for years, but I get more sore from a day of manual labor for sure. My hats off to you philo.

Does coffee count as passing time? I walk over to Phade's stand and ask him if he is seeing anything. He really appreciates my concern for HIS hunting satisfaction.
-
We always have target bucks, but I will shoot the first buck that I think is 3 years or older when the opportunity presents itself. So I definitely don't have the nothing less than the target bucks approach.

The pain or the naproxen?

I enjoy the satisfaction of a well done DIY project as much as anyone. The last two days I installed hardwood flooring in two rooms in our home. I have to tip my hat to anyone that does this on a regular basis. The results were great, but man all that bending over is back breaking work. Don't know how you regular flooring guys do it day in and out. Four naproxen for me this morning.

I can't help but think of the skunk analogy. If a skunk walked upwind of you, do you think you would be fooled if it was wearing clothes washed in the creek? lol I am guessing we smell way stronger to a deer. That said, if you shoot a boone and crocket downwind of you after washing your clothes in the creek, I will be right behind you in the line at the creek next season.
-
From what I understand, you are giving off scent from the shedding of dead skin cells. That is unrelated to clothing. While I try my best not to stink like Tide, I just use scent free soap and hunt the wind. I don't think creek water clothes will prevent a deer from scenting you if they are downwind. JMHO

I seriously doubt it. We hunt near the park and interruptions from those hiking through the park and off on to our private parcel is annoying - apparently these hikers don't know what posted signs mean. I cant imagine the traffic you would see hunting in the park. Heck, Phade had to get down to tell some young lovers to relocate from setting up their "picnic" 20yds from his stand on our land. lol

Hmm, we bounce torpedos for lakers without issue - in fact hugely successful to the point of quitting when people are tired of reeling them in usually. Like you said, I guess everyone has their own preference. I don't really trust the depth on our fish hawk (although I love the unit). It shows depth deeper than the rigger or FF at times. I should really just park, test and calibrate it, but haven't done so. Seems accurate down to 50' or so, then it becomes inconsistent with the other indicators.
-
Probably depends on the depths you fish, but we use 16lb weights and balls don't cut it. Pancakes are horrible for the heavy currents in Lake O. To each his own. What don't you like about torpedos?
-
Buy torpedo weights. Guy on LOU sells them very reasonably. Much less blowback than balls which means you will be more accurate with desired depth. Oh and have fun.
-
Obviously you need to be downwind(your access and stand) of where you think deer will come from. That said, you can't kill them if you don't have a shot. On the one little plot we have (about 80yds by 30yds) we have a stand on the far east edge (predominant sw and w winds) only 10yds off the plot, but that tree has great back cover and a window to shoot through covering 90% of the plot. We also have a stand on the NW corner 15yds off for those odd winds but much more narrow window to shoot. Killed deer from both stands.
