  1. Lawdaz - can you explain your position on ARs again? I hate to see this thread die a premature death.
  2. Has to be many crossbow threads, among others, that well exceed 18. I think this one is reaching its end point.
  3. Funny you mention that Sam, when I was a kid we would meet at Potter Park after school to fight. I, eh, mean the bad kids did that. No relation I assume? haha
  4. Just called savage. It does just screw into plastic and I have to call back with my serial number and they will ship me a new stock. Good CS and pretty silly of me not to call at the outset. Hate sitting on hold. lol Thanks for all the thoughts guys.
  5. Good thought. I will give them a call. I was just looking for the easy fix but I probably should inquire.
  6. Hate to admit it, but haven't removed the stock yet. I assume plastic since it stripped so easy and the thread look like a drywall screw.
  7. As I recall, it actually is the rear screw on the trigger guard and no its not machined. Trying to figure out a way to DIY repair this.
  8. The synthetic stock on my savage 220 came loose this year. When I tightened down the screws, I found that the rear screw near the trigger guard was stripped. How do I best add material for the screw to grab again. My thought was to remove the stock and fill the old hole with two part epoxy and then drill a pilot hole. The original screw looks to be self tapping (pointed with an aggressive thread) so I assume no tapping is required. Any thoughts? Something better than epoxy? BTW - I did order a boyds stock for replacement before I knew this happened but I still want to fix the original stock.
  9. Geeze Sam, you are making me feel better about not taking a big one this year. That's 30 acres or more per hunter. We tend to have much higher density when/where I hunt. Like 1 hunter per 10-15 acres. AND yes, we often can see one another from the stand. lol
  10. I was invited to hunt in PA two years ago on 800 acres private. The rule was no does. I asked why and the response was that the doe draw the bucks in. It was his father's rule and was passed down through the generations. His land, I didn't argue. BUT this place was literally overrun with doe, which I thought made it much harder to find bucks as they don't need to go very far to find their prize. Personally, I think it was a misunderstanding of good management (historically) if you are looking to shoot big bucks, which was their goal. In any event, that was the logic expressed to me.
  11. I guess this is where your opinion and mine differ Belo. While I would prefer to hold out for an older buck too, I have no problem with someone shooting a spike (experienced or not). Why cringe if they are happy with a spike or fork? To justify that thought simply based on our own desires to see bigger deer seems pretty selfish. I would love to see everyone pass 1.5s but only if they chose to do so and I am certainly not willing to support a law that imposes my preferences on another hunter. Especially in light of the fact that DEC made clear ARs would only be considered to satisfy those hunters that want more mature deer opportunities. IF DEC is correct, it has nothing to do with management for the health of the herd. Heck, even you say you don't want it easy to kill an old one, but it sounds like you want it easier to some extent. Leave people to choose. Just my humble opinion - which is never ever ever wrong. Ask my wife. lol
  12. I am all in favor of trying to "grow" the buck before killing them, but not at the expense of another hunter's ability to choose what he shoots. I remember the first 1.5yr 8 pt I saw my first year hunting. He looked like a booner to me at the time. Should I tell another hunter he can't shoot that buck if he wants simply because I prefer a chance to shoot him in 2-3 years. NOPE. Its pretty clear from the slide show that DEC thinks our heard is healthy and only would implement ARs because some hunters want to hunt more mature bucks. I can't support that, even though I too want to hunt more mature bucks having a passed quite a few younger ones this year. I would support a one buck limit though as that still leaves the choice to the hunter with potential to allow more bucks to age.
  13. OK - who got phade started on cams - 10 demerits for you! lol
  14. It's a used bow. But what you like regardless of resale. An extra $50-100 in resale after a few years is not what would dictate my decision. You will spend way too much time with it in the woods and practicing to let resale play a role, IMO.
  15. Honestly, I think a lot of the writing is done by non-lawyer staff and then passed around for comments to the point where the law makes little sense in the end. It is a lousy system.
  16. Culver, you are so tough on lawyers. Give them a break. I am beginning to learn the difference between the two. The shotgun has the bigger diameter barrel, right? lol
  17. Really common DL - you will have lots of bows for sale at that DL and some are adjustable without cams or mods.
  18. No but assuming you know the bow you want, you can check the seller's feedback. I have bought a lot of bows on that sight and never had an issue, but I always check feedback.
  19. I would consider a used elite in your price range - hunter, z28, GT500, pulse (6" brace). All smooth shooting bows with a lifetime warranty even when purchased used. Watch the ads on AT. You need to know your DL before buying. Good luck. Its a buyer's market.
  20. I would return the gun to the manufacturer if I bought one with the holes messed up from the factory. But, if its an older gun, probably too late. I can see shimming if it was a vertical issue but shimming to the side is most likely difficult and, if it can be done, would certainly create a potential for that scope moving since it won't be held tightly by most of the ring front or back. Start with the possible easy fix by testing another scope IMO.
