  1. I suggest you pass on the second monster in the AM and track him down PM. Challenge yourself a bit, would ya!
  2. I am with you culver. I am expecting to shoot two monster bucks on Sat. Maybe one AM and then one PM. lol
  3. Beautiful view. I want to live where you do.
  4. NBC News described the term as follows: "The busy bees who work all week and still find time to play hard on Saturday and Sunday to make up for all that desk jockeying." If the playing hard is hunting, I suppose many of us would fit the bill.
  5. Even those products that can legally claim "made in the US" can have "negligible" parts manufactured outside of the US. I also prefer to support US companies (which vortex is), but recognize the practicalities (ex. good luck finding US made electronics). Negligible is a term open to interpretation but I believe that's why leupold removed that stamp from its scopes. Regardless, I would still buy leupold or vortex as they manufacture quality products at a reasonable price.
  6. I thought the higher end, razor stuff is made is Japan. And the rest was Phillipines, except the low end which was china. Understand your point, but I will say that the viper binos I have are really top notch at a fraction of the cost of zeiss and swaro. BTW - I thought some leupold stuff is made in china also.
  7. wildcat, the vortex have the same guaranty and dollar for dollar, may be better optics. I am sold on vortex but do have several leupolds. You should at least check them out.
  8. Amazing job Sam. I would like to try that once but doubt I could pull it off. Quite the earned trophy.
  9. I suspect if I did more long range practice with the 4x it wouldn't have seemed so daunting. I generally only shoot at a 100yd range. I did kill that deer, but only because it allowed a follow up shot. My first shot was well under-ranged. Put the crosshair on top of the back and had a good shoulder shot. A range finder would have been helpful at that point too. lol The leupold 4x does a great job of gathering light.
  10. Pygmy - I tend to agree and have fixed 4x leupold's on two guns, including the 270 that previously had the hi mag swaro. That said, my only shot on a deer in regular season this year was at or about 250yds. It would have been nice to have some more magnification then (deer looked pretty small in those crosshairs). I recognize that type of shot opportunity is a rarity for me, but it would have been nice to at least have a 3x9. The 4x is fine for 99.9 percent of my shots though.
  11. Good for you Sam. Integrity is it's own reward.
  12. I suspect both. The greater the penalty, the greater the deterrent IMO. Some will poach regardless, but those on the fence may very well think twice if they know they are out of the game for a few years.
  13. Your point it well taken. Even if only the law-abiding hunters complied, I think it would result in better quality bucks over time. I would like to think its a small minority of hunters that poach or use non-transferrable tags. Frankly, I am all for ramping up penalties for poachers and cheaters regardless of whether we have one or two buck tags. Revoke license privileges for a year and two and that may be a sufficient deterrent.
  14. Agree - but I would like to see a one buck limit per year.
  15. Nope - I want a mature buck as much as anyone, but think the hunter should make that call. It would not have been nearly as fun my first season hunting if I had to wait for the right buck. I do now, but that's by my choice. I do believe ARs MAY result in more mature bucks in an area (statistics in some southern states I read seem to confirm that), but don't think that should be decided by the DEC or legislature.
  16. I think you really notice the difference on high mag scopes. I had a swaro z6i 5-30 and at high mag I hated the eye relief. It was very sensitive. Stupid buy because its definitely not needed where I hunt and considering my capabilities. Sold it. Good news was that I bought it right and made money on the sale. lol
  17. Congrats on your first Southern deer.
  18. I started bow hunting before gun and enjoy it much more than gun. In fact, hunting with the bow right now. You will get your first soon Apexer. Good luck!
  19. Problem is, the deer Phade kills can be easily dragged by my 5 year old. Not much of a workout. Now that I am thinking about this, Phade needs a PT.
  20. Deerthug, can you PM me your log in info. I bet I could use your internet service from Upstate. lol
  21. Based on what you described, it sounds like a personal trainer would be helpful. Not necessarily recommending this, but when my shoulders ache from heavy benching, I will do very light DUMBELL (fingers facing ears - don't do barbell as this will do more damage to shoulders due to your hand angle which causes greater should rotation) military presses for high reps (25-40/set) every other day at the end of a workout. It gets blood in the area, which aides in recovery of the shoulders. Anyways, good luck.
  22. Red Having worked out for 29 years now (scary when I actually did the calculation) and having competed in powerlifting for much of that time, here is my take on personal trainers: If you don't know how to train, need help learning exercises/proper form and setting up routines, then they can be very helpful if they are good. Get references and check them out first. If you already have this down, then they really can't offer much more than motivation or a different point of view on training. That alone may be worth it to some people. There is also much training information that can be had on the internet for free, but you need to decide whether its valid or not. I have read some "advice" that makes me shake my head, but have also learned ideas that really helped me to progress back when I competed.
  23. Yep - as I understand it, cross bow is only last two weeks of archery and does change with the season end date.
