Why Are Wild Turkey Populations Diminishing?
ATbuckhunter replied to Grouse's topic in Turkey Hunting
I think its the degradation of suitable habitat. Now there are pockets of high value habitat and a plethora of marginal. Start working on habitat and you'll see an increase in population. Predation and weather are also impacting as well, but not as much as habitat -
Ill make sure to. I didnt even know I can check that for firearms
-
I agree, its about 2-300 bucks less from what I can see. I originally was looking at the m18. When I buy a .243 ill probably get a Mauser M18
-
Why would you suggest a Mauser vs a Sauer? Only thing I don't like about the Mauser is they don't have one in 7mm-08 I don't believe
-
I saw the same, but I did not want to drive all the way out there just to handle a gun. I'm sure ill go out that way for something and ill check it out then. Ill check if they have it bass pro or Cabelas as ill be up that way in CT soon. My grandfather wants to give me his older Remington 7600 since he's giving up hunting so ill have that as a back up 06 as well. I don't want to take out that rifle on a rainy day though.
-
I will say that I have not handled one. It seems very similar to my 06 over the internet, but I cant really find places near me that even sell them, let alone one that has it in stock
-
Congrats! Hunting with my dog is one of the best feelings. I wont even hunt for birds if I can't take her most of the time. Im sure you guys will feel the same. Start the bird intro young though and good luck!

Im confident in the 7mm-08 putting down a bear. They're not that hard to put down
-
I'm looking at a Sauer 100 right now. It has almost everything I'm looking for in a rifle.

As far as Land I would buy a piece that's for sale for a mil near a prison that I hunt near. I always see 40-50 deer on that property every time I drive by it. Its not crazy big, but just in the right area. Id also buy a couple houses out west and maybe a property in Iowa. Can't go too crazy since the taxes will be a lot with all that property.

My number one pick for gun hunting is my 06 as of right now. Ive been using that gun since I was 13 and I still love it. I just don't have a good back up (other than my muzzleloader) which is why I want something for a back up/bad weather gun. I think im going to go with the 7mm-08. I don't specifically target bear, but If I see one and want to take it, I want to be sure Its going to be put down. Even with my 06, I was nervous walking up on the bear this year. I will say if bear weren't something I thought I would see, I would get the .243. I know people who shoot big bodied deer with it every year and they certainly do the job. I have zero worry about using a .243 for deer. Eventually I will probably get one, but for now its going to be my 06 and a 7-08
-
This was my thoughts as well. Knowing black bear already don't give a good blood trail as it is sometimes

I'm looking at buying a back up rifle/bad weather rifle for next deer season. I have the rifle I want picked out, now just wondering if I should get a .243 or a 7mm-08. I have an 06 right now and love it, but Id like something different for my next rifle. I hear amazing things about both calibers, my only worry is about bear. Bear are becoming more common where I hunt and I even got one last season on opening day of gun. My worry is will the .243 going to be under gunned for bear. For that reason only, I am leaning towards a 7mm-08. I would be using Barnes full copper bullets no matter which caliber I go with if that makes a difference. Let me hear your thoughts
-
Hopefully when I go up, ill be able to pick up a bottle. Still have over half of mine left, but Id rather get one just in case so im set for a long time
-
Id like to get the Limited crew cab model. I was thinking about the hybrid, but from what I hear the hybrid wont really be much better on gas so it might not be worth it. I'm not going to buy until August probably though
-
I just emailed and refused to give my number. I told them to let me know when one comes in and thats what they did. I did physically see it and it was for sale, but they must have thought I wouldn't buy. I wasn't going to, but they had no way of knowing. The reason this was for sale was because the guy who ordered it backed out due to him finding one in Arizona and buying that before this one came in. They didn't want me to know that, but eventually I figured it out when talking to the salesman
-
I'm having a hard time getting a test drive for one. I had one, but they refused to let me test drive it after I came into the dealership

I get what you're trying to say. You're trying to say that because ford makes 800k trucks a year, that they'll get more issues due to shear numbers. And due to Toyota only selling about 100k trucks a year, they'll have less due to less volume. Decent thinking, but you cant just look at trucks if you're going to do that. You have to look at both companies as a whole. As a whole Toyota vehicles are better than ford vehicles when it comes to reliability. We're not just saying Toyota makes more reliable trucks, were saying they make more reliable vehicles. Toyota does not focus on trucks so using the truck only sales numbers is not comparing apples to apples. If you want to look at numbers, Toyota makes more vehicles and with less issues than ford. Your only argument is completely flawed because if you want to look at the big picture, it only supports what literally everyone here is trying to say. The reason for looking at all vehicles instead of just trucks is Ford really only sells trucks. So trucks is the whole picture for Ford, but trucks is not the whole picture for Toyota. To be apples to apples you have to look at everything if you want to bring numbers into it. So by your own words, Toyota should have a lot more issues than ford due to volume...except it does not.

What deflection? Have you ever see a car shortage like this? I can guarantee you have not, so you can’t compare right now. Everyone is waiting long time for all parts for all makes and models so that’s not a good example either. What is happening right now has never happened before so nothing is out of the question from any car company. And if you haven’t heard of the issues with Fords and GM’s, you’re living under some weird rock. You’re honestly trying to debate what is very very well known and documented over many independent sources Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That doesn't sound like a Toyota problem, but a problem with a certain dealership during a time where cars are at a shortage. Even rental cars are hard to get now a days. Also lemon laws exist for a reason. There are a plethora of Fords, Chevy's, GM's and dodges that are rendered not drivable in the same amount of time. Im enjoying this debate, but what im not getting is you're going against whats pretty much accepted in the car industry. Not many will fight on which are the most reliable car company's and the numbers tend to back up those claims as well. I havent seen many Fords hit the Million mile mark that a few toyotas have hit

First year on a new generation is bound to have problems. They’ll get it straightened out. I think we’re all aware of how many problems when Fords new generation came out Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

100 percent ram is going to be feel nicer and look nicer at the lower trims, I’m sure even the mid level ram will look better than the mid level Tundra. For a lease, you definitely went the right route. I had one dealership tell me to come in for a test drive and then after I drove 30 minutes to get there, they refused to let me test drive it. Thankfully I’m not looking to buy until august/September anyway. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Except ford just released a hybrid and will release a full electric version
-
100 percent toyota sells about 1/8 of the trucks ford sells. Trucks is fords bread and butter, but outside of trucks ford does not compete with Toyota.
