  1. i have shot 6 deer with them all pass throughs except my 7 point last year, 8 yard shot quatering away full penetration broke 2 ribs in like butter and the arrow stopped in the off shoulder. I have busted 2 ribs in 2 ribs out before. i never had a problem with lack of penetration. the only time i had an issue was when i shot one with my lighter arrow. my 400 grain setup is mint and smokes em. only thing is a spinning 2 blade might not hit the deer with the blades deployes horizontal all the time. i did have one where i shot a deer and it hit in the vertical position and slid between the ribs in and broke one rib out. Never had a problem with the blades breaking either. ill tell you those 2 blades put a hole in there that even god cant repair lol
  2. thanks WNY you have to take it there LOL, its all good. im not trying to tell you to shoot them and i have tried my share of heads and these i stuck with for 5 seasons now
  3. Like i said i personally think people are who they are and use what they use due to lack of willingness to try something different. I get the keep it simple part but maybe ive never been affraid to make decissions based on my own field data, i make my own decissions based on what works for me. Not 10 guys who swear by mechanicals or fixed. Also bow and arrow combo is crutial to pass throughs along with bow poundage. So i cant make decisoons based on some guy who has a different setup then me also if he hit a deer n lost it who knows where he hit it and all the other info that goes along. Some guys see a thread of a guy shooting mechanicals looses his deer and say ehh they r crap. Without knowing anything else. Its monkey see monkey do
  4. what is the draw to fixed cause they cut on contact? so do my rage, and they are fully deployed smashing a 2" plus hole in my deer on contact...
  5. Culv ^ yes some mechanicals will. over the tops i dont like. what i like about rage is they switch back from the rear and have unbelievable penetration.
  6. i used the crimpsons and to be honest i think they are the best fixed blades out. i switched from them to Rage and never looked back
  7. this is by far a hotly debated topic and it goes way deeper then the braodhead being shot although there are some broad heads that are not miracles but maybe can be the difference between a lost deer on a MARGINAL shot. I think the BIGGEST factor that equates to lost deer in my opinion does not narrow down the broad head nor arrow weight. I believe its hunters who may mis judge a few important variables: 1) Elevation and Distance 2) was the deer quatering to or broadside and THIS i think is why alot of deer are lost each year due to hunters not being able to properly read how that deer is positioned and be able to place a shot accordingly. A qautering to deer is NOT the same angle as broadside or quartering away. i think shot angles are most often mis judges. 3) Not giving deer the proper time to expire and or know the difference between pursuing a blood trail and knowing when to back out. i im pretty sure you can kill a deer with a field tip if placed properly... i personally shoot rage broad heads persoanlly because i have tried about a dozen different heads and i happen to like this one the best, plain and simple. It doesnt mean i can get away with placing a crap shot on a deer in hopes of finding it. i think your equipment is key by far and i am also a firm beleiver on practice practice paractice ALSO having the hunter know how on what to do and when to do it. ALL of this is essential in the recovery of any animal regardless what we shoot. You give me a dull broad head right now and a 20 yard shot and i grant you with my bow i will no doubt get a clean passthrough if hit in the right spot, completely broadside and not hitting an off shoulder, that deer will go down.... ALOT of education comes from personal seat time and years of experience along with the willingness to learn and try things. Ive been bow hunting for 17 years now and lost 1 deer, swrore it wont happen again but i can not guarantee it. i do know i can use all my essentials i have learned in my bow career and put them to the test!!
  8. some of my buddies are turning in some great reports of bucks seeking and running up the does the past few days
  9. i dont think this site is bad at all, infact i happen to think there are plenty of intelligent individuals in here. You have to step back and consider we are all from vast areas of NY with MANY different personalities who might not have the same outlooks, consider the source... I know things can get off topic rather quickly but its whats to be expected in an open forum, not to mention some things can get mixed up via messages and posts so that doesnt help either.
  10. Not sure if this is old or new but WTH?! NYarcher sent this to me. I never saw it but what the hell was this guy thinking?! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRIr7c35zuY
  11. Ill be out all day Friday, Sat & Sunday... Ive said it before but ill say it again, big buck going down lol
  12. the thumbnail is very small but from what i see hes a great buck!
  13. great thread WNY, some good info for those looking for a deers anatomy
  14. i use my climber everytime on hunt... i wouldnt have thought about it being illegal. I am guilty of cutting some shooting lanes and trimming some branches on public/state land (i mean i didint hack the forest down)... i wont sit a tree where i can not make clean shot on an animal. i think some of these rules are rather silly for hunters but yet others can hack stuff down with now problem. try finding the perfect tree for a climber, the only perfect tree is one another hunter already limbed up.
  15. no prob Joe, thanks. how have you been making out this season?
  16. ^ yeah i was thinking close to the 130 mark forsure. great looking deer
  17. thought about it, only thing is there is not one drop of blood anywhere for at least 100 yards or better. Its very odd but i could not find a drop at all.
