i have deff seen a few gut shot deer around water dead. even if it is the smallest of water... no its not common at all, might be coincidence for all i know. some gut shot deer may not even make it to water. had guys say they gut shot a deer and sure enough found them near water days later...

I see alot more deer since i started using these types of products... Its staple in my hunting strategy especially during bow season. In my eyes getting close is critical and any advantage i can have on an animal that has un godly powers compared to me is a good enough reason for myself to use it. i dont want to make it any easier on the deer and i try to make it alittle easier for me. I see a noticeable amount more deer and they key to the phrase is , i see them CLOSE!

you have to be in it to win it....

I wonder if this deer could get any closer?

umm that is deff an eye lol -
Thats not true Doc... I do not believe scent killer is a scent killer. There are better products then others on the shelf and price difference does not vary as much as you think. when i see scent blocker or scent shield on the shelf for 19.99 for a gallon sprayer and i see joe shmoe blows for 15.99 id spend the extra few buck and buy a brand that has been around a little longer and is name brand. i know it works because when i hunt on the ground sometimes during gun and i have deer come in 10 yards down wind on multiple occasions id say it gets my vote. i dont vote a product a success because its what i use. ive used a few brands that work great based upon deer activity in accordance with wind direction and how close they are. the old saying rings volume ---- "you get what you pay for" and its true the flip side is look at any scent killer on the market, they dont vary in price drastically as all! one may be 10 the other 8$. you wouldn't go with any name brand razor to shave with would you?? you go with what woorks for you and also preference..

such a cool pic!!

yeah hows it coming?

not sure how the weather will be by you BUT it will be windy by me on the island. there saying in the 60s clear but 25mph winds. dont get me wrong tho on the calling i am not saying it will 100% work for you but dont be affraid to try and hit the can on a deer, especially if hes not coming in to you anyways. i heard guys say its to early for calls like that so i went against it and tried it. had the 8 and the 4 posturing up on each other opeing weekend last year SZ. i tried the call and it was funny how fast they responded and worked in quick. the idea is once you got there attention you stop, you hit em with it when it looks like they are going off or loosing interest. maybe once and 5 seconds later a second time. watch the body language of the deer. i dont care how early or late in the season, if a buck hears that hes going to react. Only time i have used it and it had NO effect what so ever was when bucks come in scent checking for does or are clearly on a hot trail. never do get much of a reaction on those deer. they usually make there way in so fast and really are relying on there nose and not listening to good.

+1!! great stuff... its a little miricale in a bottle

Yeah, but it would require boning out the entire animal, and I simply don't have time for it..I butcher about 200 deer a year, as well as cape and flesh all the heads myself... No i hear you... i was simply responding to your statement about how other butchers could have meat left over for summer sausage / chop and stuff like that. i said it is becasue the hunter may specifically ask for it, like i would if it was my 2nd or 3rd deer.... but i can only emagine how busiy you get!

called a nice 6 point in opening wekk of bow last year. he was not coming in to me until i hit the can. bleeted him in a few times had em going crazy. he came in like he was on a leash... i never had a buck spook out from doe bleets, ever. last year opening weekend of bow in SZ, had an 8 and a 4 i hit with the can, used my M.A.D. bleet, boom they came in 5 yards, right under the tree! i never put a time of year to use the can or bleet calls, they work almost any time of the season. even hit deer with the can late season like december, had bucks come runnign over. no rhyme or reason.

can works great, never too early or too late to give it a go...
-
never heard of one but doesn't mean they dont exist.
-
also if you presume a further hit then expected, (gut) check any water sources. funny how many gut shot deer you would find around water...
-
you can ask specifically for it instead of having the deer butchered into steaks, roasts and so on... but then yes, it would not surprise me that a butcher would use a donated deer for sausage or chop meat, ect... there are hunter such as myself who do butcher there own deer and on a second or 3rd deer would rather turn the whole deer into sausage, chop meat or kielbasi.

your more then welcome to come over when i butcher mine... its not hard at all. i actually enjoy it.
-
i use scent blocker. i never use fresh earth spray. never at any point ever had an issue with scent blocker...
-
i dont usually do it. i fount the bleets work better for me.
-
i love it! it looks very cool, rustic is right

It was more towards the back of the ribcage, maybe to far back im guessing, it was the biggest buck i personally have ever drawn on so I got tunnel vision. Wasn't a big deer but to me it was my personal best. liver / liver lung... they need alot of time if you hit that. blood can sometimes be good or blood can be very little... either way the deer will expire but will run for a long ways if pushed.
-
yes it does... as long as you did everything you did on the recover that all you really can do. Its never fun hitting a deer and not being able to make the recover however it does sharpen your edge as a hunter... waiting for an opportune shot and placing it well or maybe giving a deer more time in the future before going after it. whatever the edge it sharpens it can only make you better. It may be the first but unfortunately may not be the last of your hunting career. goodluck this season.
