  1. '09 Ford Escape XLT and then there's my "toy" as the wife calls it; an '03 Corvette Coupe. No pics of the Escape but here's one of the Vette.
  2. I joined a year ago yesterday. Haven't been around for a few reasons. Mainly due to a car accident that broke my back in 3 places and recovering from that. Plus I was an active member of the NAHC forums until they screwed those up beyond recognition. Then I got to looking around and saw this in my bookmarks. I'd actually forgotten about the group. <blush> I'm a retired software tester in the Poughkeepsie area and hope to spend more time around here and contribute where and when I can. I do tend to be somewhat opinionated, but I'll try and keep a lid on it.
  3. I'd go to work. One of two things would happen if you go out. 1) you'd get ticked off when you had to leave the woods to get to work by 7:30 2) you'd get a deer and get into trouble because you weren't at work by 7:30 either way it's the day's gonna suck so you may as well avoid getting into trouble over it.
  4. Most of the cops I know do not agree with Emperor Quomos position/s on guns. You have to understand though that Somers is down towards "Liberal Heaven" (read as: Westchester County and NYC). I don't know this but I'd speculate that the sign was removed due to its content. As for those blow-up lawn things; they make me want to go get a pellet gun and declare open warfare on those things. I mean, one or two... I can look the other way. But these folks that have so many you can't even see grass just make me wanna go postal on 'em.
  5. Only thing I'd add would be a 2 gallon ziplock bag for the heart and liver. (Gotta think positive)
  6. Hmmm, I hadn't thought of them getting together and starting a coop. I think I'd better take double caution when locking them up! Thanks for the PSB!
  7. I had something similar happen last year. There were about 6 of us who had/have permission to hunt a local farm. This farmer hates deer, period. We'd been doing a decent job of controlling them while trying to manage the herd at the same time. Last year he gave some other guys permission to hunt and they came in and setup blinds right where we'd been hunting for years. We told them that they were encroaching and they couldn't of cared less. I spoke with the land owner and he didn't really care either, he just wants the deer gone. So, I didn't go out last year. I went for a walk recently and see that they've setup their blinds again so I guess I'm toast for this year as well. I've tried finding other land to hunt but even though everyone complains about the deer, they won't give permission to hunt. I'll keep trying but it's very frustrating to loose a nice area to guys who just don't give a cr*p about anything or anyone other than themselves. Sorry for the rant.
  8. This crossbow 'arguement' is reminicent of when compound bows were trying to be legalized. All of the "purists" were all up in arms - "those things aren't bows and shouldn't be allowed"; Sound familiar? Now, I'll bet most all who were chanting that manta use compounds. Crossbows are just that, bows. You still can't ethically shoot more than 40 yards. They should be legal in bow season and I regularly write my representatives and tell them so,
  9. Thanks for your service! Don't get discouraged if it doesn't pattern well with the slugs immediately. It can sometimes take a while to find the slug that your setup "likes". I went through several until mine decided it liked the Federals. Good luck.
  10. My Grandfather taught me to use milkweed when I was young. Still use it today when standing.
  11. 58 yo retired software engineer of 38 years. Born and raised in NW PA, 2 1/2 years of school in Pittsburgh. Moved to NY 38 years ago for work and still here. Live in Poughkeepsie and have a camp in Stratford. Married, no kids.... it's a long story. I've been hunting and fishing since I started going with my Dad when I was six. Began carrying my .300 Savage 99e when I was 12 and it's still my preferred choice but living in Dutchess County, it's shotgun only so I have a 12ga Mossy that gets used here. Don't really hunt at the camp as there are a bunch of bandits in the area and there's a lot of deer taken pre-season at night. Yeah, the game wardens have been informed as well as other authorities... no change. Gaining access to land to hunt, as you all probably already know, is tough but I am lucky enough to have permission to hunt on a local farm. Quite a few other folks also have permission so it can sometimes be trying but you make do when you have to... Was poking around the net after getting kind of fed up with another groups bickering, etc. It appears as though the mods here don't put up with that. Well, I've babbled on enough I suppose. I'll probably hang out and watch for a bit but I'm not known for being bashful either.
