  1. Thanks Burt...Got to tell you they are deliciuos ..but literally have to fight the raccoons for them...and the take 7 yrs. before producing...worth the wait
  2. Wow...just read this for the first time...sorry for you guys and agree...just have to say though...had I made the comments you guys did...pretty sure a few ppl here would have bent over backwards to try and shred my opinion...still hoping they wont show up in Livingston
  3. Are you comparing fire ratings on the safe to help in your choice? They can very alot from safe to safe
  4. Kiwi vines are loaded..can hardly wait....bees doing a good job...and I will be very busy with 38 tomato plants all looking like this.....lol
  5. Steve went out and took these today hope it helps....

  7. I hate to have to say this...but the above was just a joke
  8. Oh that's just great!!...I don't have enough to worry about!!...Now there will be a bunch of high school foot ball players out there chasing down all the little buck to gnaw on there rack...geesh ;D
  9. good luck...it's getting to be that time...the boys are leisurely checking out the best neighbor hood...
  10. burt ...while I'm thinking on it...a couple of tips....make sure you have a great PH...especially with tomatoes...or you could end up with blossom end rot....I also used concrete reinforcement mesh. in the garden this year ...WoW love it....I simply stked the panels up and wove the tomato plants through the squase as they grow...no tying...and perfact for the pole beans....for our peas I staked one side in 3 places and then made an arch and staked down the other side...planted the peas along both sides....never had so many peas before...think I have early pics.....I also soak news paper and place thick layers around plants and lay manure and orgrass clippings on top...then let the plants grow over that....helps in dry spells....fertilizes...and the manure seems to help keep some critters like the nasty voles we have away and most important....stops weeds in those areas
  11. Congrats Bubba...same here.... I was up until 1:30 last night putting up another 12 quarts of beans on top of the first eight....and dragging out every zucchini recipe I can find....today I freeze swisschard and collard greens....peppers are coming great and the eggplant are not producing as well but did pick a big one yesterday...the corn has a lot of young ears...and 38 tomato plants just loaded...no ripe ones right now...peas finally stopped producing...I will be freezing cabbage and making a lot of sauerkraut this fall the cabbage is growing like made....
  12. Heres the deal...I spend so much time figuring the tag thing mainly at camp ...in order to look out after my 74yr old father in-law...he actually bought my ML so he'd have a hunting partner then...The planting and building on the property is mainly for enjoyment...but also to undo a plowing the old farmer did ...then never disced and smoothed it...most of his farm fields reverted back to hard maple and oak but I want to keep whats open left open ...and still have kidneys intact at the end of summer...might as well plant them while "repairing" them...hard work yep.... love it certainly...not just as a chance to see a deer....if that were the case I'd put in one big plot and 3 stands...not 28 + ground blinds and 13 plots...I also like to do things ppl say can't be done...like growing kiwis and persimmon in these hills...soybeans and corn in small plots...good stand of corn from 9.00 feed corn....when I'm too old to hunt or feeble to keep this property up to snuff ...well I may have to sell...hopefully the kids will get it but if it were to get down to selling....you can bet I WILL get top dollar for this place as a home/hunting property...and thats a fact Standing in line in the wee hours just to get tags ..no...I'm a chatter and you'd be very surprised how striking up a conversation can bring about a lot of info on many topics...no different than grocery shopping or standing in line at the bank....you'd be seriously surprised at the things ppl will chat about in line The last thing on that topic...well I'm a planner...I plan for things years down the road....I planned my kids...went to first Dr appt and told him the first would be a girl and born between the 6th and 9th...he just laughed...told me it was impossible to plan a babies birth date that close...both were natural...In labor at hospital on the 7th and had her on the 8th(mothers day).....second I planned for my birthday...went in said it will be a boy and on my birthday...Dr. still laughed... MY sis... I hadn't seen in ten years.... showed up at my door as a surprise...she got me one day off my schedule...our son was born the day after my birthday....yep I like to plan things out ...well I bet that was too much info....Hahahah you get my point though I'm sure ;D
  13. your right...it would be a doe tag if I took a buck in bow....then the gun season I have the reg buck and DMPS...not often do I take a buck during gun...unless at camp....I'd have to go back and look at my tags again....there is system I use when trying to figure out how to have enough tags to be out in the field ...watching my father in-law at camp during ML....by then every one else is working...some times it only works if one of his hunting buddies can't make it down to hunt after applying for 8X tags and there is one that is signed over before season...that also gives me another option on how and when I'll use my tags..I could just go down and not hunt ...but being out in the field with the chance a deer would come by and I'd have to sit there ...nope have to do that with buck all the time....my choice... not going to sit out in the cold and not be able to take a shot if it presents because I have no tag and my gun is at home...See this is never a problem at home....until last year I would go the Conesus at 4a.m.(one year) the clerk opened and there was a line of us for the second draw....then Walmart served coffee and donuts to a lrg group at 5 a.m. ...when the computer system crashed on another second draw...but they cut tag #'s in half here at home last year
  14. thats another problem...see I hunt 8x...and it has always been low...now they've had a # of rough winters ..fawn kills and yes not a huge ag area where camp is...YET....every year it is not uncommon to look out and see 15-30 deer together....most doe groups are 5-8 with 4 being adult females....these deer are not migrating to the areas that have few doe....the DEC can not micro manage pockets of concentrated deer with in a unit...surrounding us are huge areas of privite highly patroled hunting lands with very few hunters using them...large acrage dedicated to the state college and Alfred University...there needs to be some off set with in a management unit to take care of such areas...the garentteed tag was it ..IMO...Our doe take is always higher than the buck take....that is what you see...and it is an area that is choked with buckthorn every where...deer just hang out protected...even the heartiest guy has a hard time against thousands of 3in'' long needles and 60 degree inclines and flowing streams just inches under foot
  15. I admitt I haven't read through all this but I'm sure one or two of you have...so questions 1. seeing they go down several thousand feet then out...what does that do to ppls mineral rights?...I mean say they get to a neighbors first and they signed...then the initial well head is on them ...but the gas drilling and fracturing is under you 2. Isn't it places with high shale also the places with high radon?...I know ours is....what is the fracturing going to do in aiding the further release of radon into neighboring homes 3. does this have the same type of potential as the Retsolf salt mine debacle?...yes not huge caverns collapsing ...but it is displacing the natural under ground structure....ground movement and the changing of water flow 4. whats the damages to surrounding areas if you have a explosion or well burn?
  16. Doc...it just hit me.....what the DEC reminds me of...the guy that shot him self in the foot two years in a row ??? ....lets hope that they keep the safety on ...as it were.... with these "proposals"...listen to all feed back carefully so they don't end up crippling them selves with a accidental discharge
  17. Not for me...I used the buck and 1 DMP in bow.... had second buck and DMPS for gun and a either or for ML...That way I could go down and watch Dad in- law at camp when he went ML...other wise I would not have had a tag in 8x to ML...Camp has always be 0-1 tag area...where at home it's been 1-3..up until last year ....I'm just glad that when getting life times I opted not to get the ML one
  18. .......In other words...if you hunt in a high and a low zone you'll going to have to be very careful whether or not you use your doe tags early if you want to hunt late ml
  19. Things are looking a bit better....We've had a couple of storms...and then a couple of dry...thunder storms...not as drop of rain with those....now suppose to rain again...thunder rolling through but no rain yet.....the over seeding of turnips have sprouted ...the trical/pea/clover/chicory is sprouting and just got an over seeding of turnips last night...the clover plots are showing green and finally the corn is shoulder high...bit of a problem...of sorts...the turkey flocks are in scratching around all plots...wish sorghum would hurry up and start heading out...that will keep them busy and off the clover
  20. That's where what I've been saying for years comes in ....deer don't follow the "rule" book the same in all areas....different herds different herd mentality.....I see what your saying down at camp...but here at home I have 3 different spots that routinely when I go in an hour before day light settle down in the stand and all hell breaks out 30 yrds away...and I have buck fighting all around me....that is the first two weeks...then after that they are just cruising and scent marking...cross checking scent trails with best activity being 9-1 and 3 to dark...either coming thru just before in the dark ...or just after...9....they will bed down in the area and get up after a while and move a bit and feed then either follow a trail off or bed down and wait some more...it's the small guys that will be on their feet cruising...like a dog on a trail .....just what I see...I hunt every single day from bow opener to end of gun...one reason why I have so many set ups....never a chance to over hunt one changing movement...ppl around me ...tend to be on there feet moving around "looking" ...or during bow going in and leaving during the deers prime movement hours....those areas get no traffic nearly all year then boom new scents ...noise...ect....I've mentioned a lot I don't see the big boys most of summer...then I'm seeing big buck all the time...I know exactly why...which why I think I am able to see a lot of movement on my place...doe stay here year around...they see me every day in there domain the buck are off in there ''Groups"....then when nature starts ramping them and hunters start disturbing them they move here...in the fall...after turnip planting..mid Aug usually I tend to stay off the property more...with the exception of mowing trails ..which doesn't bother even the new comers...this has been happening for years...but we also have a few "staging" areas on this property....actually I should have said the only deer movement that concerns me is the doe and surrounding hunters.....they are what drive buck movement on OUR property
  21. WNYBH...of course ppl paying for DMPS intend to use them the point IS how they will divide up hunting time to try and use them...which in turn could possible end up defeating the DEC purpose...like stated above...buy a super sportsman or even the life times....but you don't always get out to fish...squirrel hunt ...and with the late ML/archery...find the time to hunt then when planned...I think that POSSIBLE happens more often than not...all I'm say is think back over the years...it jut may defeat the whole.... we need to manage the doe rearranging tag allotment idea...I think that human nature is when ppl have change they may or may not like they tend to try and manage the situation to still best fit them changing the original results of change anyways...just a thought...doesn't effect me much other than camp hunting
  22. Actually it's a big difference because the DEC is now defeating their own purpose...and I'll explain why...though it is so very plain to see...all of you think on this a bit...look back to some of your hunting seasons and tell me if you find this valid... they are asking LATE ML to actually hold off on using their DMPS in archery and or reg gun for a chance to hit the woods in the cold windy winter week of DEC.... which is a double edged sword for how many of you filled your buck tags early and had just the one maybe two doe tags left and well the weather...the wife and kids....holiday gatherings work parties ....school plays and concerts...aches and pains the flue...list is pretty long...kept you from your grand plan?...so now the DEC says they are issuing more DMPS to off set the either or...and lets ask how many out of staters are really traveling here in the late season when they now... in many areas have a low chance at DMPS any was...... for the home ppl get the better chance..as it should be..well unless you own land...so your back to a good possibility of less doe being taken than they want this plan to accomplish
  23. there is just one aspect of deer movement I'm concerned with...daily doe movement.....I know that the deer on this particular hill do this.....move down hill in the morning....and up hill in the evening...now depending on what part of the hill they started...for it's 1.8 miles long and has 3 saddles is that the right term?...benches? any how this will also give a lateral movement on our land for we are in the middle ....the buck just follow the doe around
  24. Kinda like my Irish luck...no luck at all but he's right....lucky to be able to tell the story....
