What ever...I know what I observe on my place...and this doe is not 5,6,7,8 yrs old...but flame and troll away ...perhaps yours are from all those salted farm micro nutrients you plant...
-
Some years ago I talked about a racked doe we had here only reason I caught it was she raised fawn, a nice basket with velvet...I don't know if she ever lost the velvet on them... 6pt.. Well I'm always on the look out for another and I've watched this doe for a couple of years when I noticed 2 dark spots on her forehead... This is caused by hormone imbalances ,yet like the 6pt this one has fawn, twins. This year her dark spots are now tiny buttons I have many pics of her because she LOVES the mulberry tree and the cam is on one of the trees...I wonder as she gets older if these buttons will grow( if imbalance worsens) and if she is one of the 6pts off spring...

Way back when I got mine from Millers nursery...they sold to Starks..they have them. I Also like Raintree nursery in Oregon. Now I know they are west coast but Oregon has a very similar weather as us. Just not quite as cold (sister lives there). They get their stock from around thecworld and have an excellent catalog . I like their stock. Go for ever bearing.

I do not know...I dont think they'd hold up well..maybe farmers markets.

Lol Doc, what was that quote of his....." some guys got it and most don't " ? He's just showing all the "don'ts" how.

I got all the grain plots mowed and mowed some interior plots that will be done in fall...I disced in the end of upper lane way WR and the new lane way plot(behind brush pile fence /behind buck) weather turned so I will fertilize, seed, dics and drag those areas tomorrow if not too wet...I'm just looking to draw their attention now...will over seed in turnips later...
-
Everyone is using the new plot now...I can hardly wait until next year when it really comes in good. One section at the far end I left for annuals ..so turnips will go in with an over seeding of clover. I got the lane way cleared. I then put the last 2 bags of lime down. I think I'll mow the rye and then go in and disc up the whole area. lay down some plot spike and oats and disc it in and drag smooth...just to see how well it does this first year......I want to keep the deer and turkey coming in and hanging in the gully more and less in the neighbors golden rod or the farmers hay field. The lane way will give me one continuous plot from 200ft from our back line right to the road so they can cross back over on to our place before heading down to the swamps.

Well thank you for that very polite way you informed me of that. I don't go prying things off of equipement not knowing what might break. As for the picture...it is natural ,exactly how the area looks that time of day and I prefer seeing the natural light.. but thank you for that input Phade. -

This years plans were a total fail. Not a bad thing just different..experimental I suppose. I have seed just not using it as planned. Just one spring planting ,thats doing well but slow ,clovers. I have one part of a plot that reseeded it's self, way earlier then I would have. It's the turnips.. I will mow and disc in the winter wheat. To be part of strip planting the lower field. I usually plant feed corn but not this year..I diced that area..I'm waiting for good weed growth to disc again then I will seed with feed whole oats and clover later i'll do another section in plot spike and turnips.. if the oats grow well I'll do yet anther area in oats and turnips...I planted plot spike in the upper field behind the new hay and over seeded in clovers...these storms all night and today should start them out well. We'll see what mid summer plantings do..Then think of next years plans. I do not normally plant oats. I do need to get some WW for late Aug. This is a good thing for the turkey..I Want a bigger area in them next year. The upper lane way will get plotspike and turnips. That needs a lot of clearing,a few more trees cut then a good fertilzing ,high nitrogen and seed dragged in. I disced lime in weeks ago..been picking rocks in every walk through. It never had vegitation, just moss on it,it will take afew years to get in real good shape..deer are hanging in there. Heavy right now. I had two skoot past me the other day..I continued past them and the one took a couple of jumps at me. I kept my pace and head down as I walked. it circled in behind me and snorted twice. Never ran, just saying you better keep going!....lol

Actually the two small 6 were way harder to kill then. The 8's and 9...one I had 6 eyes out in front of me as he came in from behind..having to move for the shot undetected...the second came in when I was literally sitting in a flock of roosted turkey. I had to position for the shot with out spooking them and him. The nine just ran by. I believe running from another hunter. One 8 jumped my fence then ran by. The bow 8 I spooked under my stand and I called back in the dark 3 times..he then did what I expected. He circled around and came back during hunting hours right to the stsnd for a 3 yrd from tre shot. Several of my other 8s,just doing what deer do not any big deal.

Actuly as with most post we all end addressing each other and not the original post. I was answering you specific question. Of course Im after meat and trophies as I see them. Now as hard as you may find this, you'll have a difficult time calling me a liar when I say the following. For me a big old doe is a trophy. You'll have that hard time because...I have said this several times on here over the years. A deer does not have to have a rack to be a trophy animal for me. It needs to be a tough, smart animal and give me a good hunt. It surely will never ever have to measure up to anyones standards other than my own standards. I'd say sorry this apparently upsets you,but to be honest I do not care one way or the other who that bothers. I dont hunt for anyone then myself. This is one reasonwhy I dont like trophy hunters trying to dictate what they personally believe the herd should "look" like or what others should hunt. Hunting is an experence that each person doing it should experience on their own terms. Not what others feel it should be manipulated towards.
