    Why a bow?

This is too funny...glad I came in for a break....... What was the attraction? The Great white Hunter and that was the only reason...I then fell in love with it and yes it changed my whole way of life actually. It was his massive EGO and his illegal ways...his wife's NEVER gotten a deer but bow and gun hunts muzzle loads too! Dang if she doesn't get several deer a year from her living room. kitchen ,laundry room...He would drive around to ALL the neighbors with his big buck( BTW he practiced on the small ones with the wife tags, she had a talkative nature)...Well one year he came up and wanted to video a gun 8 I shot with his big 8...then put it on the screen...his face fell and he said hhmmm that video certainly doesn't do my buck justice...LOL he NEVER showed up with a buck again. Instead he started with bow hunters are the only "real" hunter every year and he couldn't stop saying it. How takes an average of 6 years to get a buck with a bow...mind you best mathews and sights money could buy and a compound... So I decides to teach him something...I borrowed a 45 # 50 yr old recurve shooting off the shelf and instinctive, second year I shot a 7point. His next thing was to proclaim I was just out there poke and hoping....LOL after a couple of deer a year with the bow and I did switch to low end compounds, still no sights, he went away....So that is why I started bow hunting. I'll give that ego maniac credit for that, for I prefer it to gun. PS... he was wild when I taught both kids to bow hunt and they got deer before his kid. He was down right nasty and did some nasty things to one of his kids buddies that got a seriously big 8 or 10 before his kid got a deer....Then when one of his buddies shot a "trophy" he sent his kid to their home and told him to set up the garden hose ,as they slept, stick it in the truck window and turn the hose on after rolling the window up...it took years but everyone knew before, for his kid or wife let the cat out of the bag..all true.
  2. When the mulberries are dropping the critters don't care whom they dine with....Too many raccoons!
  3. Many times I have said it's nice guys want to go after what ever deer they want and this whole thing left the realm of "Trophy " deer long ago. Your (General term) so very entrenched in showing just how nasty and belittling you can get towards those that don't totally agree with you that YOU can't see what your writing. I wouldn't want my child or now grand child coming into a forum and thinking this is the OK way to act around other hunters...I will not sit here and let the way your acting, the words your using towards other hunters for shooting a deer not up to your standards go unchecked. Now as far as young pups..anyone younger that me is a young pup...If you chose to take that as an insult so be it. You have shown through out this thread that people choosing to look at deer hunting differently than you as insulting, why should this be any different. "Young Pup " is used widely actually in literature, here just one link ...I'm a bit busy to show more right now http://mit.whoi.edu/student-research?tid=1423&cid=22246 Belo I'm sorry you rate what your personal observations should be according to " likes "..I do not...lets see if I can say this one more time and have it stick...I do not give a rats puttuti. I also NEVER expect anyone on this site to "back" me up on the open forum. There are more than a few What I term " great white Hunters " here they are every where...you probably recall that expression...I use it for the hunting lease guy. Now that is a derogatory label, have no doubt about that. Most people give such guys a wide berth as far as challenging their egos, especially face to face...they prefer to talk about them out of ear shot...This is fact, years of observation...I ,well I actually enjoy drawing as much of those rank personalities out as possible and saying :..."look,look hard and do not become that "....I'm admittedly a bitch when it comes to that and I own it, because as you pointed out...too many sit by and allow them free reign... Now here is the title of this thread: Definition of psychology plural psychologies 1 : the science of mind and behavior 2a : the mental or behavioral characteristics of an individual or groupb : the study of mind and behavior in relation to a particular field of knowledge or activity
  4. I wouldn't except an invitation from you to do anything...but you hang in there. I love watching people show their true sides.
  5. These are your fellow hunters ^^^^ nice!! Hunters EVERY where should be proud, hail their integrity revel in their greatness and inspiring words
  6. I have to say I have never seen weeds this bad..ever...my garden id killing me and it's due to that persian carpet weed...I wish we could do controled burns I think it is the only way to fight it ...any part that touchs soil roots...it flowers and sets seed nearly immediately the seeds are like dust .
  7. Jadie are little black kitty who is ,16 or 17 years old now. Our daughter was in high school when she brought her home and is going to be 35 in the spring. Anyhow Jade has taken to following me like a puppy...she drives me nuts in the garden flattening plants as I try to weed around individual ones. She follows me on my walks...Ohhhh so many fox we have and the hawks are crazy this year..she's a tiny little thing and walks a mile with me everyday. Well this morning Mr B and I kept hearing this noise out front and looked to see a fat spike horn standing behind the bull dozer at the mouth of a main trail to the woods. It had it's head down and was snort wheezing..yes not just a snort but snort wheezing with it's hair up along it's back...We looked and looked when we saw the little black Jadie. She was sitting on the planks we drive the dozer up on when parked. staring up into the face of that spike 10ft away holding her ground...LOL She finally spooked him and he turned and bound away...one good whack with a hoof and that would have been it for little Jade....animals are funny to watch...
  8. I was out here checking plot growth and pulling the one species of weed out of this plot 2x's yesterday...went back last night because I forgot the card. I never wash change clothes spray anything never seems to matter to the deer. My scent and presences is well known year around by the deer,as I want it.
  9. I'm sure without the verbal slights seen here.
  10. That mat of weeds that is the hay field, is nearly ready to mow, Maybe one more week... the clovers are fighting hard and growing well considering the weeds. So it may end up just clover next spring...a mowing just before a flowering on weeds will stimulate the clover more and get sun to the ground. The bare ground behind( midway to the rt.) it is now green with plot and mid way to left up hill will be the alfalfa.
  11. Wow sun came out and the clover poped in the new plot and the one I JUST put in on the 12th has some really good growth in it all ready...The foot prints are crazy in it and I have turkey feathers and dusting bowls all over the place
  12. I did some more garden weeding and yesterday I cleaned and greased the disc again...So today I disced and dragged around the old goat barn second time now I want to plant Alfalfa and oats or WW...I then went down and disced the lower plot area I sprayed I did the road front strip again and then the WW plot and then the old clover plot infront of my blind...the rest of the field needs a spray down for WW in late August I will fertilize plant the road strip and the WW plots tomorrow the road front will get the plot spike. BTW so very impressed with it...on sale 8.50 a bag I think lastwinter...stored in the basement in plastic bag...I believe every seed may have germinated in the upper plot I think I will also add a bit more turnips there as well maybe a bit of clover we will see...the WW will be oats and turnips and the blind plot probably clovers/alfalfa and WW or rye. all the rest will get hit with turnips this year except that chicory plus plot from last year and I need to fifure out how to get to the end of lane way plot...I don't want to ruin the self seeded turnips... I want clover and oats there but the rain really packed it ...we'll see
  13. Seeing many of mine are very near the garden area and the areas I work in ,eveyday...Guess what...doesn't stop the activity and that is with ALL the animals and day pics...I have had pics of me walking by a camera and 15 mins later a buck standing there watching me walk away....
  14. Well grampy that was a great reply and I appreciate the civility and gracious manner in which you expressed your thoughts. Culver, your no different then most of us Nothing wrong with going after big bucks ,enjoying watching and seeing them I think we both know what the problem is with some proclaimed trophy hunters and how many times did we have to read the problem with them. It's not their pursuit, it's their verbal disrespect towards other hunters they do not consider trophy hunters. BTW grampy that is a reference to why I mentioned the congratulations ..One only needs to read about any one of the 11 pages here to see that..OH just look above this post. See I have respect for any hunter that puts in the time and kills a deer to their personal liking...I do not need to say "oh a just a spike, or call guys that shoots 1 1/2 year old basket 8's baby killers. How many guys on here that read these threads have posted fawns and spikes and 4's,5's, 6's and small 8's... Want to look at last years harvests? How do you think they feel about their fellow hunters when they hear the crap that has been flung by more than a few here? Walk away and come back to read this thread. Just because times change doesn't mean that all things should change with the times. respect is one of them. Now it wouldn't bother me but it was said theirs always a few buttheads...correct you are but this thread had more than a few and they were condoned by many more than a few.. calm down Belo you posted before I had a chance to...just anticipating..
  15. This is true with wht clover and 2% ratio...but not so much if you do as many and mix whites with anual reseeding clovers...it will knock out reds...in my experience...It's how I kill the red I want to till in.
  16. Way back on page one. I laughed when I said the above. So many pages later and the repeated comments by quite a few shows how right I was and how sad that is....Many of you are well... what I call young pups and you grew up in way different times and sadly with different role models and teachers. Apparently way too many "Real ,TV hunters". I grew up with a grandfather and grandmother that were both avid hunters(every thing) trappers, anglers. I grew up in a community of hunters, there wasn't a kid in the neighbor hood that didn't squirrel hunt. It was never about the biggest baddest and yes there were no doe tags and only party permits when I got married in 79. It was the actual experience and effort that was put into hunting that made great hunters. It was the respect that each hunter gave one another. There is OBVIOUSLY no respect in hunting today and also Obviously false congratulations given during season by many...I now have more respect for those that refrain from congratulating anyone or few,at least they show honesty. This has clearly shown me why people have posted up all the lands and look down at hunters. I now see why so many are leaving hunting and why the tradition of hunting camps has fallen away. Every single year and several times a year this and other sites manage to throw out pages and pages and pages of such BS, that puts a dark shroud over all hunters in general. Even I think about donating to anti hunting groups, nice job... I see this head line in the future: The internet, how hunting was defeated.
  17. Lol love to if I knew...it is in Cohocton NY....I stopped in while driving through....I use to have their number..but if you google buying lime in Cohocton NY you may find it...Or someone here may know their name.
  18. I use to do do the lawn clippings when we lived in town ...I use to use the goat barn cleaning and still sometimes use the chicken coop...but that has to compost a full year before hand...I also worked for the penny saver and they had "end rolls" that they would give me. That and the shredded bundles...much better than the news papers I would collect and put down....thick mats of paper that would slowly decompose...the penny saver rolls had no ink. Also clean wheat straw, when it was cheap...open the bale and lay it down in slices over lapping them...Great around the vining plants ...I still buy a bail just to keep pumpkin and melons out of the dirt so worms won't burrow into them. One slice under each fruit
  19. That's not that much, 2000# per ton...We are recommended minimum of 3 tons per acre....that's why lime is added every single year I plant. It's a 10 ton minimum to deliver and trying to keep it dry and spreading would be a huge head ache easier, to spread the extra $$$ for pelleted over many years... Then make sure you keep up with light maintenance spreading I average 800# per year on lime...Depending on new areas and maintenance...
  20. Grilled salmon, fresh garden peas, salads
  21. Nice!................. mine haven't even come close to flowering yet... the vining plants are just starting to get growth. All the winter squash plants I bought are just sitting there getting flowers that fall off but the over wintered seed ones in the hay field are taking off also the ones in the compost...Corn looks great for going in so late...braccs are fabulous, pole beans are just starting to climb and they were one of the first things I planted...getting ready to try peas ,spinach, more lettuce again. bush beans suck and I will replant this week. Beets and all greens are great. I am happy about my peppers all the peppers are producing little peppers and I have picked the bananas already and all the tomato plants have tomatoes. My eggplants are still think about what to do...
  22. Have a great day and the best of years
