That is a hell of a 7pt...That's what we would call a coke can buck......There's definitely something going on in your soils down that way...I know from your posts your cams are in a few areas...Good Luck this season

http:// YANKEE CANDLE MACINTOSH APPLE CAR VENT STICK CLIP AIR FRESHENER ones similar to these...I clipped one on an apple tree near my stand that didn't produce any apples last year..mixed berry I think. They came in and ended up making a scrape under the tree...I removed it this spring when spraying the trees..it still had a faint smell...I have used them over the years and they are at the least just a curiosity to them...never spook...If it will turn a deer and offer a shot worth a try..but they need to be good ones...

product you've used.. What is the best "home grown" product you've done or used. speaking of filling pockets...when acorns and apples are dropping I have a pouch with small stones in it and I toss out one at a time ...a dinner bell of sorts...I will also carry a length of twine(heavier )and tie one end to a young sapling near the stand as high as I can reach then climb up and settle in...I yank that twine pretty good every once in a while, like you see when a buck it rubbing a tree. I smash walnut hulls and put them in onion bags as cover scent drags they have a powerful scent....ect..ect

Always very careful, lean and top weight carefully considered. Type of tree being cut ,grain and density. Breezes and possible gusts.

Man I cut some trees today...too wet to do anything else...I took out some pretty big ones lining the lane way at Rivers blind...several more to do...This weather has really flattened the brush fencing but this will build it back up..I limbed them and will start clean up tomorrow...Have to get that area done before the fall planting. Opened up a couple of nice oaks so they can expand their canopies.Took out a lot of diseased trees, and open a lot more sun to both sides of the fencing. My plan to start planting the woods side of fencing is on hold to next year thanks to this weather......But this winter I'll finish the junk tree clearing. Then first thaw, rake the rocks to the fence line so I can lime the area hard and rake in some seed...Make a good staging area before they hit the main lane way plot. Good God I'm tired ,but it's a good tired

Thats a nice shooting weight for that bow. you should be able to hold a draw for a good length of time, relatively speaking. what length arrows are you using?

Make sure you are not incuring any liens against the property from previous owners...call the county tax office and ask some questions concerning these things. Consider title insuranse as well.

Well they wouldn't have to worry about brush fires this year..Funny thing is,at least for our area, it's been very very quiet considering last week tents popped up in a half dozen psrking lots around here selling fire works for the first time. We normally have them going off nearly non stop the week before and every weekend most of July. Last night was perfect and it was pretty quiet out there.

Yes in areas that i know the soil drainage will support both. You have more growth option with your clover selection then the alfalfa. Making such matches are not difficult.

Treeguy I love when you guys respond to me...your charecters shine through... The problem with it is 1. I discussed several times in here just how bad that buck was, discussed how I processed it, froze it, tried making jerk, sausage and burger out of it..it remain smelly and tasted like it smelled. Thats nice you've never had such an experience. Sad that as with many things and people with your narrow mind set, if you havent experienced it, then it's impossible. I suppose youd have felt better if I had just tossed it all in the garbage instead. 2. I apparently misread you scenario. I thought I read a fork,a 1 1/2 ajd a 10....... See in my area and yes I'm a meat hunter, we have many good sized 6 and 8 point 1 1/2 yr olds. This is yet another thing you can check that I've discussed. So yes with that in mind, I'd go with a 1 1/2. Problem is I said it would depend on several things and I may have gone for the 10. Do you guys assume no one reads what I post, so you'll just stick words in my mouth unchallenged? I have to say ....stop acting like putts..then read what you write..you talk out both sides of your mouth. I can't even laugh at it any more. " I'm not going to bash fawn SLAYERS"...... " If we could just to stick to the FACTS and try to EDUCATE each other to the facts vs old school"..... "I'm not going to go through a ridiculous song and dance to make my way the only way" Heres your problem there is no old school. What it is are hunters making their own choices and guys like you can not stand it! You don't see people who choose not to trophy hunt only, saying you need EDUCATING . You hear them saying, everyone should just go enjoy what ever type of hunting they want to do. Not you though and it is sad you are so blinded you can't see what you write. That you just can not admit you want it your way for everyone.

I can answer that honestly but you'll call me a liar. So I'm wondering why I bother. It would depend on the 11/2 year olds rack shape. Though because it is a 10 pt and I've taken many many 8 pts and 9pts. More then likely the 10, Now that desicion would also decide on the body size and rut and whether or not I have meat in the freezer. This said because I will avoid ever shooting a nasty rutty buck ever again, the meat on the last one went to the dogs ,it was inedable. See, you can go through my post and see where I have said these same things several times. The fact that I don't have racks mounted, their sitting in buckets or rafters. I hunt with personal goals in mind and clean shots. I've also mentioned having an 8 and a 10 come in during bow and the 8 was shot for it was the best shot. My first archery deer as a 7 pt. How that hunt played out and you can check posts from years ago on this, was an absolute monster came in 20 yrds but wouldn't stop..went to gully and bedded. I tried everything to call him back when a 10 appeared coming toward me from the right when my 7 trotted in from the left and gave me a 17 or so shot with my recurve. I shot him. Another hunt up on Marrowback ,a friends property. Had a thick tall tined huge bodied 8 pt came in 30 yrds out. Coming right to me when a funky racked 7 pt showed up coming in as well Thin and with what I thought was an arrow sticking up between his shoulders. I shot him, turned out to be his rib and he was taken to the DEC for a replacement tag due the gangrene. He had survived a car hit.. I shoot deer on what ever decision circumstance at the time lead me to. Yes I set goals..certain doe and I will hunt them harder then a buck. Certain buck, split brows, dbl split brows, stickers, and yes pts. Now it doesnt make bit of difference to me how big those pts are or how old the deer is. Do I take and show pics? Yes sir How many have you seen where I had to be in the picture? As far as "dumbing down" I knew answering this, I wouldn't be able to dumb it down enough for you to understand my " style " of hunting. That and the simple simple fact that how and what I hunt doesn't nor will it ever prove me a lesser or better hunter then you or anyone else. I know guys wear the term " I ate tag soup " waiting for that one buck as a badge of honor. Heres my one and only time saying this, because I have no need to insult them with my personal opinion. That statement is one of a glory hound not a hunter. I laugh at the fact they talk about getting time off just at the right times of the rut,a time when buck are at their dumbest. They try to negate luck as a factor,Oh wait luck is only achieved through skill. Luck is luck, circumstance born out of randomness. One more thing I do not use sights on my bow except the cross bow which came scoped, I do not use a rifle and I shoot a 20 ga with a single bead at the end of the barrel. Does that make me a better hunter than the guy with top of the line optics ,long range rifles on totally unsuspcting deer out of scent and sight range of the hunter? Not any more than the guy who goes after " mature " buck in the rut, I'm just a good enough hunter to know this.

Best wishes on the test results and the road to feeling better take care..

eewww... controlled burns...Not here they arrested a local farmer several times...had a stand off the year he committed suicide after. ...I felt bad for the guy, he had a real ax to grind about that little field around his pond. But then again...I watched an out of control brush fire move so fast across a field it scared me to death...dang near took out the fire truck...fire is it's own master on windy hills PS Grant Woods would have a fit in NYS...lol and that farmer...never had his little filed out of control...The brush fire I watched was from a burning barrel...that was a fine ! I think.

SB 4739 - Establishes the yearling buck protection program
growalot replied to Rebel Darling's topic in Deer Hunting
Hey thanks Larry I've been waiting for an opening since I got my new NYODN.. to ask this question: The paper reported that PA just found another (this may be wrong it's from memory) 25 cases of CWD. The second I read about the increase...what ever it was,(I'll look later) this popped into my mind. Did they ever have a case before AR's and as their AR program progresses and cases increase Are they asking , Is there a connection? If possible, why? -
OK perhaps this will put this to bed...read the last three post...If my point isn't seen, then It flew to high over your head. My opinion was not directed JUST at you. it was a statement of how things can be read when worded a certain way "words perceived"

Thanks Doc and FSW...I was wondering if anyone that understands the real world and country properties would chime in.I appreciate that you did.
