  1. I have the nosho ultras that i use for cold weather hunting and ice fishing. Nothing but good to say about them. Keep your feet warm and comfortable, cant ask for much more. A couple weeks ago i was at basspro and they had the stratalite XT on sale for $89.99 so i bought them. They're a little lighter than the ultras so i've been hunting in them when the temps are 35+.
  2. That’s not a bad idea. The blanket doesn’t have to be form fit to the smoker to work, all you really need to do is drape it over it. It makes a world of difference. Before I bought the blanket that is made specifically for my smoker I went to harbor freight and bought the cheapest welding blanket they had. It worked really well. This is the blanket I have on my bigger smoker now. I like that it has grommets that the handle bolts through so I can just leave it on. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I’m not too familiar with the tower smokers, but for the guys who are having issues with keeping temps in cold weather, see if they make a winter blanket for your model. I’ve got one I put on my smoker for the winter and it holds temps very steady and lowers pellet consumption. If they don’t make one for the smoker you have, a welding blanket works just as good. 4. What’s the going rate for the price of land per acre right now? We’re starting to think of buying a plot of land and paying on it for a few years then building a house on it down the road. I’m seeing mixed prices near me right now ranging from $2000-$5000 per square acre. I do realize that different land types will bring different prices. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Just used my new one for the first time tonight. Obviously not where I took this picture though! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. They don't get much more set it and forget it than these. It is a smoker, but can go all the way to 550 degrees if you want. The small one is $350 right now.
  7. What's your budget? I have two green mountain pellet smokers and absolutely love them. One is the size of a normal grill, and the other one is a small portable. I have nothing but good to say about the bigger one, i use it a couple times per week. I just bought the small one last week and have yet to use it. I got the smaller one so i can bring it back and forth to camp and i figured it would be easier to use in the winter months. If you look into them the two models i have are the Daniel Boone and Trek. Both are wifi compatible so you can control the smoker from your phone if you want. They're running a black Friday sale on them right now.
  8. I ended up finding it online and was able to register. Thank you!
  9. I can see that being an issue. I’ll have to be careful most of my guns are wood. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Did you have to call them to register or can I do it online? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. I’ll look into lights. It could really use some. It’s pretty dark inside. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. It was time for me to buy a new safe, as i was completely out of room for any new guns. I started looking a couple weeks ago for a 60+ capacity safe. I didn't want to spend $3000+, but didn't want to cheap out either. I went to my local tractor supply and checked out the cannons and a liberty that they had. The cannon looked nice, but i did some research and found that they really weren't great, plus they're imported. The liberty they had was beautiful, but it was $2800. So today i had to pick some pellets up for my smoker and went to check them out again. The liberty that was $2800 last week was marked down as a mangers special for $1400 so i bought it. It was a struggle to get it inside, as its just under 1000 lbs, but it seems to be very well made. Does anyone have any experiences with Liberty? My only concern is that its a digital lock system, which i feel could die at any time, but i have some cheaper safes that are also battery operated and haven't had any issues. What are some must haves for a big safe other than a dehumidifier? This is my first "big" safe. Its a 64 gun, but i know ill be lucky if i get half of that. My other safes are rated for around 30 guns if i remember right.
  13. I typically don't think about recoil when shooting at either turkey or deer. If i did think about it while aiming i'd be willing to bet my accuracy would suffer greatly. Something to think about too is, when I'm in the woods i typically am dressed for colder weather, meaning theres extra padding between my shoulder and the butt stock of my gun. This reduces recoil a lot. I don't do much shooting in the winter months, however I shoot a lot in the summer and usually wait until then to sight in any new guns i might have. Those are the times when my shoulder really feels it because I'm usually in just a t shirt.
  14. I have two pieces of private land that I hunt on and both land owners don’t allow rifles. I’ve used a 12g 870 ever since I started hunting. I do carry a 7600 up north though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. 200 grains of pyrodex pellets with a Hornady SST sabot. Brand new box of powder too, and I store it correctly. I didn’t load the gun until minutes before I went into the woods, so the powder wasn’t sitting in the gun for very long. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. The last Sunday of the normal late ML season I had a misfire. I shoot a Remington UML which takes a special primer that looks like a pistol cartridge. I had a doe at 10 yards away, perfectly broadside and only the primer went off. I loaded a new primer in without changing the powder because you need a socket set just to get the breech plug out. A half hour later a doe steps out at 147 yards and I dropped her. The misfire must have been a bad primer. I always keep my muzzleloaders as clean as possible too. I had just had it all apart the night before to make sure everything was clean and clear, so I found it a little odd. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. His gun was made somewhere between the mid 50s to the very early 80s. That’s back when manufacturers took pride in their product and made good quality guns. I agree cheap guns made today are just that, but i don’t think that’s the case here. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Had the best worst day of my life in the woods this afternoon. Had to work this morning but planned on going out with my dad for an afternoon sit. I got to his house about 130 and when we left at 2 it started down pouring. We decided to just go in quietly and get out of there because we both had some things we wanted to do. He wanted to put a new blind up and i had a climber i wanted to bring in so i didn't have to set it all up in the morning. I know these things should've been taken care of before now but I've been busy with a new house and haven't gotten the chance to get out. On the way in we jumped a bedded doe along with a nice buck in a field of golden rod. We set my stand up, swap the card out of my camera, then go set up his blind along with a couple other cameras. By now its raining/snowing even harder and were soaked to the bone. We start slowly walking out and i hear a deer blow so we kneel down for a few minutes on an old power line road with no where to really go for cover. Not even a minute later a doe crosses the road into the golden rod field and FOUR bucks are chasing her. One was a scrubby 5 or 6 pointer and the other three were very respectable 8s or bigger. The scrub buck starts walking up the road towards us and got to about 7 yards before turning into the golden rod while the others ran around in the field tailing the doe about 30 yards away. By this time all we could see is their heads so there was no shot opportunity unless they came back into the road. As were sitting there waiting for a shot i see a fifth buck take two steps into the road 20 yards away about to cross into the field. This buck was the biggest of all the bucks we saw today by far. I draw my bow back and shoot, but pulled my bow to the left at the last second and miss. Im so glad it was a clean miss, but man that would've been the icing on the cake if i had gotten that buck while sitting shoulder to shoulder with my old man after both of us just saw all that rutting activity 30 yards in front of us. Im sick to my stomach about missing, but overall it was one of the best experiences I've had in the woods yet and ill remember it the rest of my life. I should add, this isn't our property and a few other guys hunt it also so its not managed like other properties are. Its very unusual to see that many big bucks, thats part of the reason it was such a cool experience.
  19. Just got my dryshods in the mail today. They feel great and look to be really good quality. I’m a 9 1/2 and the 10 gives me plenty of room for a heavier sock. I might wear them this weekend to break them in even though it’s not going to be that cold. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. What’s the advantage of the polypropylene? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Ive been looking at boots for a couple days now and was going to get the warmest pair of mucks i could get, but today i was reading that Muck sold out to china and the muck founder started up Dryshod. New mucks are apparently junk.
  22. I just ended up ordering the Ultras. I don't really have a dealer close by so i had to order them online. Now i just hope they fit! I wear a 9 1/2 but they only offer whole sizes so i got a 10. Hopefully theres enough room for a heavier sock.
  23. Does anyone here wear dryshods? I’m looking for a new pair of boots for cold weather hunting and ice fishing and was looking at getting a pair of mucks, but have been hearing good things about dryshod. I also read that the founder of muck sold out and then came up with these. I’m looking at two different pairs on their site, the Gusset XT and the Ultra Hunt. I can’t really tell what the difference is other than one has gussets and the other does not. Both are rated for -50. I’m not sure which ones to get. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. 4 years ago or so i bought a Bushnell wireless trophy cam and it seems like every year i struggle to set it up. I brought it out this morning and could not get it to work, i just get a "modem init fail". What i find is that the cause of this is lack of cell reception, but I've tried it in many different locations and mainly in a wide open field where i have perfect reception on my phone. I ended up setting a few regular cams up and bringing the Bushnell back frustrated. Now here i am on my front porch at home and its still giving me the same error. Ive had it working in the years past but not like it should. It would take pictures and then send them to me all at one time a week later. Im thinking of just retiring this one all together and buying a new one even thought this one was not cheap at the time ($400 i think). I see theres many different options now and a lot of them are $100-150 but i don't want to run into the same issues. My phone provider is Verizon if that matters.
  25. This would be the best solution unfortunately Remington isn't operating right now.
