Urban legend deer situation. What would you do?
BackWoods Hunter replied to Al Bundy's topic in Deer Hunting
I wouldn't trespass for it, unless I could see it from my side of the line. I was an law-abiding upstanding citizen until I joined this site. Thanks guys. -

Unfortunately I agree. That would be the end of my hunt. I would be extremely upset though. -

I agree. What a weird discussion. Never even crossed my mind. Once you pull the trigger, you're in it to win it. -
45°, light rain, and thick fog here in 5G. Nothing was moving this evening as expected. I was hoping with the rain and fog it might get them up but I guess the warm weather kept them bedded down. I got a chance at my buck just a few weeks ago under similar conditions as we are going to have this weekend. I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.

Which of these two twigs are the deer eating and what is its name. The one on the left has a bunch of tiny thorns. I think I've heard it referred to it as deer candy before.

Had two deer walk by around 3. I couldn't see either one. One of the two winded me unfortunately. Could've been my buck. I won't get one if my luck keeps up this way for much longer...

What camera do you prefer

I don't mind giving them another shot. These things happen. I attached it using the strap that came with it . -

What camera do you prefer

I don't know what to tell you buddy. Like I said, the camera was highly recommended by others on archery talk and that's why I bought it. I also said that maybe I just got a dud. The thing was brand-new and had frozen ice in it. It wasn't condensation. Because it was brand-new, it's unlikely there was anything wrong with the O-ring. I don't know why it leaked. When I exchange it, I'm certain the next one will not. I had use this SD card several times recently and had no issues with it. The fact that when I removed it and water was dripping out, makes me believe that if my SD card is faulty, it's not because of the card, it's because of the leaking camera. I also said that the AVI video would not load on my iPhone. The fact that the video will not load on iOS or windows makes me wonder why anyone would use it. Because of these two things, I am disappointed with the camera. This is just my one opinion of the camera. I'm sure it's a great product, I just happen to get a bad one. That doesn't mean I'll risk another $170on another though. -
I think I understand what you're asking, and I think it takes thick skin to do what you do. I believe most people either hunt because they enjoy the dinner, the bragging rights, the feeling of superiority when they kill something, the feeling of accomplishment after completing something which is hard. You fall into the last category. The hard is what makes it great. Those that fall into the other categories have a difficult time understanding why you don't do what they do. If you're already giving your meat away, why not take those other shots at the deer and give it to your buddies? Because the dear's not going to waste, you can feel good about taking those animals. You can also make the point to your friends, that you are an accomplished hunter.

Shooting through Twigs
BackWoods Hunter replied to BackWoods Hunter's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
Thanks. My original question has definitely been answered. Don't shoot through twigs with a rifle. But let's go ahead and move it on to a shotgun. I've been wanting to buy one anyway. If I should be hunting in these woods with a shotgun than that just gives me a reason to get it. Let's face it, I don't have near enough room to make hundred yard shots anyway. Everything is close range, 50 yards or less. -
That was my feeling also. Just wanted to hear someone else say it...

And that's what I've been wondering. It seems like half the time people say it's too hot. And then recently the other half have been saying it's too cold. So which is it? At what temperature is it just right?

Good video for field dressing a doe

That was great. Thanks! -
I just like to thank you one last time before the season ends. That Little cushion is awesome. It's easy to carry and has kept my butt warm and up out of the snow. It makes still hunting more fun. The benefits far outweigh the costs.

Tonight is jumbo king crab legs, lobster, and a T bone. (No we don't eat this way regularly. you just happened to ask at the right time)

My property has two mountains that run north and south. I had a lot of sign that I was hunting on the eastern slope of the western mountain. A day after the snow? No daytime movement and fewer tracks than expected. I wondered if they moved to the southern facing slope of the eastern mountain. With just a handful of days left, I can't afford to continue to stare at the trees. I'm thinking I need a new game plan. Maybe still hunt the tracks that lead that direction to get me back in the game.

Get the "Best Hunting Times" app. It's really cool even if you don't live and die by the lunar calendar.

Brought the bag in last night. This morning I was toasty warm climbing into my gear. Thanks!

So I bought Lacrosse 800g boots because of a lack of options more than anything. I had a hard time finding size 13s. They kept my feet warm but it was also in the upper 20's this morning. We'll see how they do when the temps drop again.

I can tell you that the red freaked them out. So much so that I switched it from vid to pic just to try to get them not to stare at the camera. -

Funny you asked that. I just researched this same question and bought one. My search took me to archerytalk.com where I found a thread on it. Almost every single post recommended a trail cam called Covert, cost $170. So I bought the Red 40 model. I put it out and got some videos. Shortly after I checked it, I found that it records in an .avi format. Well, Windows doesn't like avi and neither does my iphone. I had to download a freeware program to view them. Strike 1. I put it back out and checked it again a few days later. When I opened it I noticed water on the batteries. I pulled the SD card and noticed water on that. Strike 2. When I got the SD card back to check the videos, they were corrupt. Strike 3. Maybe I just got a bad one, who knows. Good luck in your search, I hope it works out better than mine. Although I couldn't find the thread I was referring to, I did find this one that is recommending others. http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/showthread.php?t=1844649 -
After I take a few drinks, I crush the bottle down to remove the air. I keep doing that until I'm done drinking it at which point I crush it the rest if the way. Removing the air removes that crackling sound it makes. Ever notice how it doesn't crackle on your walk in?
