  1. Nice hunt last night. Had this guy show up 3 or 4 times Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. not everyone can hunt all the time grampy. One must also be careful to not overhunt good rut stands and not all are fortunate to have multiple pieces of property in order to spread out the pressure. Heck it wasn't that long ago that the season was still 2 weeks away. I don't know why everyone gets all bothered by what has been a very civil discussion (which is rare for this place haha).
  3. i have no issue with that, i agree with hunting smarter based on camera, field observations, wind etc. You didn't really answer my questions, but I sense you're already past annoyed, so enjoy your hunt phade. For what it's worth I don't care if you kill a P&Y that you stalked on the ground or if you shoot a bb in a loin cloth. You do you... I do enjoy your input in this thread though good luck this year.
  4. i was planning to go tomorrow afternoon and then was thinking tonight might be better, then it started to rain and while it looks good now, i'll hunt tomorrow afternoon i think. good luck all out tonight and tomorrow morning
  5. Maybe unethical was too far out there. How about we go with "sporting"? I work my ass off too so I get it, I passed 9 deer yesterday morning, but no I def didn't pass a 3.5 year old. For clarification, did you pick that spot based on a few weeks of patterns? Or did you pick that spot based on the activity you saw that morning or even the drive in?
  6. Here's a few "target bucks" from my new property. Unfortunately these are from non-cell cams. Sorry for that I guess. PS I won that wildgame camera from the fine folks on this forum
  7. i know this wasn't a double post and I know cams have a special place in your heart. What's the harm in discussing them? I'm not sure if this was directed at me, but I've killed some nice deer and I still disagree with this, and I know many veteran hunters on this board do too. There's nothing wrong with pursuing the big buck and still enjoying hunting for other reasons than the grip and grin.
  8. I think there's zero moral, ethical, sporting or fair chase issue with the situation you describe. What about if you had 5 or 6 on a 20 acre property and used real time data to pick your stand that afternoon, or decided to get down and move or spot and stalk based on real time pics while in the stand? Or knew to stand and turn because one was coming from the east? thoughts?
  9. I don't think anyone really does care, but the fact that this thread is already 4 pages does say something doesn't it? We have had a hundred threads on baiting, ARs and crossbows. They all read just like this "if it's legal who cares", "you do you", "go hunt and get off the net". I've alway taken each of these threads as just bull shitting and nothing more. Right now I'm stuck in my home office and bull shitting helps pass the time. All that said, it's threads like these that have helped me form opinions and even changed my tune after having said discussions so I do value them too.
  10. I'll apologize now if you felt I was judging. It's not always easy to express ones intent over the internet. HOWEVER, I do think it's an interesting discussion which is what I was alluding too. Exactly to your point, the limitations one puts on oneself should be all that matters and for that I agree. Now that that's out of the way, I do think it's an interesting conversation. I could see them in my future for scouting and reducing impact, but I would forever struggle with having them "live" while in the stand. This isn't to say they're unethical, just maybe not for me. Many states have various laws for hunting the same species. For example, you can use just about any crossbow you want in Ohio. You can bait deer not to far south from here, you can run deer with dogs in some states. Some states wont allow you to use technology on your bow (think the garmin range finder site), you can hunt a buck in velvet in KY etc. The reason I mention this is only to point out that what is legal doesn't necessarily make it ethical and vice versa. I think this tech discussion is more about sporting than it is about ethics though. Bottom line, where's the line drawn? Does there need to be a line? P&Y wouldn't recognize your buck, and maybe who cares? I like this conversation and that's all.
  11. again, wishing you good luck and reminding you it's a long season. you do you biz
  12. I'm not sure anyone here cares... why can't we ever just have a discussion on part of the sport without everyone getting so huffy puffy? I swear some of you have never sat around the campfire or at a bar and bull shitted about hunting and it shows. Me: Hey Jeremy what do you think about cell cams? Jeremy: who cares Me: how about the weather?
  13. Us hunters throw this phrase around a lot and it hurts some productive debates and friendly/civil discussions because "who cares it's legal", like every game law we have is ethical . So lets change the question to, "Should cell cams WHILE hunting, be legal"?
  14. I'll chime in as said instigator. First and foremost, I did not bring up the issue because I'm opposed to those who are legally using the tech today. It's legal and it's your right.I will add however that it's not for me, and mostly because it seems to take some of the joy, excitement and sport out of hunting. I should add that hunting for me isn't about shooting a book buck. Hell yes I strive for one, and hell yes I do everything I can to harvest one, but I hunt because I like the time in the woods and I enjoy the escape. I like watching critters and I love me some venison. I find that there is some distinction between the guy hunting over the ridge sending a text that deer are coming. You really can't buy that guy. That's another person with just as much and sometimes more invested in getting a deer as you. He also has odor and movement and a silhouette. Knowing where a deer is that isn't in view seems not very sporting to me and it also lends to the means that some may have over others. Finally, what's the difference between illegal drones and cell cams really?
  15. credit to you guys out in the rain on 10/2! remember it's a long season and not a whole lot worse than arrowing in the rain when you need that blood trail. Good luck!
  16. an interesting ethical, moral and fair chase discussion here. I'm not dogging you by any means. Just find it an interesting issues.
  17. Hunting a new property that me and the 3 boys and dad put in some work on over the last few months. What a beautiful morning. I was covered in deer from 8-10. I went in knowing I'd shoot a nice doe if it was a high probability shot. I had 3, 2.5/3.5+ does work their way in and had a perfect, slightly quartering away shot at 22 and my heart just wasn't feeling it. This stand has a long drag and it's warm and I had a conference call at 11... Then 2 moms and 3 yearlings/fawns come in. I wasn't going to shoot a mom today. Finally as I think the activity is dying down the first buck showed up. What a great start to the season.
  18. very good point on finding dead bodies, I was thinking more of what you see on the hoof. Thanks for pointing that out.
  19. it's still an easy answer. racism and violence is wrong. It's wrong for white supremacist, it's wrong for antifa and rioters who are taking advantage. And from there he could have spun that into his attempt for law and order in cities like Portland where super libs refuse to do anything. It would have been a mic drop moment and instead his waffling and stand down and stand by gets the headline. This guy has done so many good things, he has so many great talking points. He could have let Biden paint himself into the corner with the country wide shutdown stuff, Biden not having any police support and Biden denouncing the green new deal should have been huge takeaways for undecided voters, and instead the takeaway is that he's really just everyone's 3rd grade bully. F! go away stormy, I couldn't follow your sentence structure before and I can't follow it now.
  20. he was handed a soft ball. "do you denounce white nationalist" he deflected to antifa (which i agree is also a very big problem). Then still neglected to answer it and asked for names like he doesn't know what they're asking for. It never should have gone that far. The proud boys origin story is interesting and worth looking into, but all I he had to say was "yes I denounce white nationalists". simple.
  21. the american people were the losers. nobody won. what a sad day for america.
